Just wanted to point out: MiB, you say you don't like the Goldeneye multiplayer, but it was a really popular game. If you're going to consider popularity, then FFVII beats the living shit out of pretty much every (modern) game ever. It's not even close. It sold something like 2.5 million copies in japan in the FIRST 3 DAYS. I think GTA3 was the high seller in 2001 with 2 million copies period. EDIT: Never mind, let me eat a bit of crow. Goldeneye sold slightly better than FFVII. They're both still in the top 20. EDIT AGAIN: Now I see a list that pegs Goledeneye as having sold slightly less than FFVII. Either way, it sold lots.

The OaO Arrested Development Season 3 thread
Special K replied to Gary Floyd's topic in Television & Film
Seriously, the vast majority of the humor in AD is verbal, but how great is it that the show's been on for two years, and there's at least 10 animated GIFs that make me smile or laugh? God, the Buster Chicago/Star Wars kid montage is fucking great. -
Wow, I've been wasted, but I've never crapped myself. Kudos.

Never knew Sulu's first name. George Takei's pretty awesome in general . He should just do books on tape for the rest of his life.

Did they use her as a pinata?

'Niggardly. ' And yes, that was fucking horendous. The made me so, so pissed off. Hey, let's just make entire syllables off limits. Spic and Span. Honky Tonk. Nip in the bud. A Chink in the armor. The Daygobah system. (or however the fuck you spell it.) People need to grow the fuck up and see that racism shouldn't really be the number one issue in the country. White people want to kill you? News flash: white people make up something like 80% of the population. If they really wanted to kill you so bad, it would have been done decades ago. Learn to think before you open you stupid fucking mouth, cocksucker. Still, I reckon that this guy is taken seriously by approximately no one.

I thought no one be able to beat that. That's really tame. Come on guys, I've got my dick in my hand and no one's coming though. I only masturbate to sorrow. Good times.

My potential keepers: Carson Palmer Lamont Jordan Rudi Johnson Larry Johnson Randy Moss Marvin Harrison We can keep 4 players. I'm forward thinking, so I'm thinking of trading Rudi and an elite back for an elite RB. Perhaps Randy Moss and Rudi for Willis Mcgahee or Edggerin James. If I thought I could get Shaun I would. I'm also seriously considering trading Randy Moss for Chad Johnson straight up. My love of the Bengals is coloring this deal, but Chad's young, and injury free.

Two of my very favorite bands, Sonic Youth and Blonde Redhead, apparently took their cue from the tiny no-wave movement started, (Maybe?) by the band DNA. (from which Blonde Redhead took its name, and I've never heard a song.) As a caveat, I think the early albums of those two bands are excellent, but they later far exceeded them. The whole thing sounds ridiculously pretentious, but then, I love Sonic Youth and Blonde Redhead which are ridiculously pretentious, if excellent, bands. I like the atonal, but structured scales, and the seething guitar noise. Is there anything, really, to no-wave bands?

I sometimes wonder exactly how some older games would stack up today. I'm pretty sure Tomb Raider would be a complete bore now. Jumping Flash might be fun, I loved that game. Mario 64 is really the first 3D platformer that stands a chance in this day and age, though. Platformers have made huge leaps and bounds. Also I can't forget one of my greatest loves on the PSX. Rival Schools: United by fate. It was ugly as sin the day it came out, and it was sort of like a dumbed-down Vs. title, but man, my friends and I in college still played the shit out of that game even when the PS2 and Dreamcast were out. After reading the arguments in this thread, I've reached a conclusion (which was reached a lot earlier when someone said quantity v quality) When you take the N64's entire lifespan and condense it into the top ten titles, you've got a phenomenal library. Classic, even. It will beat any Playstation top 10 objectively, though the N64, again, was totally lacking in entire genres. I just have a preconceived bias against N64, formed because, in between killer games I was able to pick up tons of cheap, entertaining titles. One that came to mind is Tiny Tank. A really fun little bargain shooter. There were a ton of good games to tide owners over, and greatest hits titles that cost jack shit. However, classic gamers aren't exactly clamoring to play Tiny Tank nowadays. Being a N64 owner, at the actual time of its release, sucked. There were LONG waits between excellent titles. And, barring Zelda and Smash Brothers, they were ALL platformers and racers. If you're not a big racing fan (I never have been, except my undying love of Wipeout XL) well, then there goes a third of the must-own titles. Plus, $60-$80!

I've expanded my horizons a bit, yet I think I'm still ignorant of the good rap out there. I like (pretty much in order) Del: first and foremost: Deltron 3030 is one of my top five favourite albums, bar none. De La Soul. Acelyone. Blackalicious. Kool Keith. (especially Dr. Octagon, I love the Automator.) The Grey Album (meaning I like jay-Z fairly well, but I particularly like this album). Mos Def. EPMD. Blue Scholars. Body Count. Dre/Snoop Dogg stuff. Beasties. I like what I hear from Dead Prez. They probably hate me, though. Roots. Run DMC. So drop a little knowledge on me. What are some other artists I should check out, given my preferences.

Did Sony make the Jak games? I haven't played them, but numbers 1 & 3 have quite the rep.

The Gamecube is a sweet, sweet system. The controller's much better than the N64's (though the Dual Shock IS clearly the best.), it has a very strong game library (so do the PS2 and XBOX.) and it's durable itself (fucking Sony and their flimsy-ass systems) One game that gets short shrift is Zelda: four swords since you need four fucking GBA's and four link cables to even play it properly, but if you do, it's AWESOME. I think we're really spoiled this generation, though. There's SO many good games out there in general. All three consoles (and the Dreamcast!) have terrific libraries. A game like Psi-Ops, which I love, can come out and not even be a blip on the radar. People can complain about Shadow of the Colossus being ugly. The only genre that's really been suffering is the RPG, since SquareEnix's products have taken a sharp drop in quality since the late days of PS1, and other designers haven't exactly picked up the slack. Thank God for Nippon Ichi. Who made Rachet and Clank? Was that Sony (who for the longest time could NOT make a platformer to save their lives.)? Because that's my personal favorite platformer series I've ever played. Gamecube, strangely, has been a bit bare in the platformer dept.

And those games will NEVER be obselete. Shit, i played Actraiser, which was pretty much a SNES launch title half a year ago. It still kicks ass. EDIT: Man in Blak, have you played Valkyrie Profile? If not, you might want to consider picking it up. I don't think it's ludicrously expensive like Suikoden II. It's fan-fucking-tastic.
-
Well, FFVII is STILL on GameFAQS top 10 FAQs. I'd say that's some staying power. Symphony of the Night has aged wonderfully. And among RPG players, Suikoden I&II and Valkyrie Profile are still very highly regarded, and have aged quite nicely, Suikoden not being grahically impressive at all even for a first gen PS1 title. RPG's just age better. Yeah, Star Ocean II and Twisted Metal II are pretty damn ugly today, but they still feature classic gameplay. I Still play Wipeout XL. That game's the shit. I own the soundtrack, too. Here is a brief list of PS1 games that still play very well today. Resident Evil Resident Evil II Silent Hill FFVII FFTactics Valkyrie Profile Star Ocean: Second Story Suikoden Suikoden II Castlevania: SOTN Twisted Metal II Gran Tourismo Wipeout XL Lunar: Eternal Blue Einhander Tekken 3 SFA 3 Metal Gear Solid Tenchu Vagrant Story Bust a Move Mr. Driller These are the games that I've played, that I consider great, and worth playing today. There's plenty of other good titles in the library. Calling any of these titles on a lack of quality is just silly. Maybe Einhander's a stretch. I really liked it, though.

I'm assuming there were other hatches? Because the one we know and love A) was covered in dirt B) Had a ruined ladder. Speaking of which, how the hell would Hurley get out of that place once he was in? Haven't seen everyone hates Hugo yet, so bear that in mind.
-
Hint: The PS2 is backwards compatible. RPGs (and classics like Suikoden I&II, FF7, FFT Star Ocean 2 and Valkyrie Profile can't just be dismissed out of hand) fighters, strategy games, niche games like Parappa and Mr. Driller and Intelligence Cube. The Resident Evils and the excellent first Silent Hill. An all time platforming classic in Castlevania: SOTN. Some excellent 3D shooters like Colony Wars and Twisted Metal 2. The things PS1 lacked were a really good 3D platformer (though I mantain the first Tomb Raider was an excellent game) racers (though Wipeout, Wipeout XL and Gran Tourismo are all the shit) and 1st-person shooters. All of which the N64 excelled at (I still think GoldenEye and Perfect Dark are overrated, though.) it's really a matter of personal preference. N64 was a better 'party gaming' system, that's definitely true. Though me and some friends played the shit out of Tekken 3, Twisted Metal 2 and Bust a Move. SNES has so many classic games in essentially every genre, it's going to be really tough to ever beat out, in my mind. Especially with all the great Japanese games being emulated over here, now.

Anyone else looking forward to this game? Comes out in a week. Frankly it's the only game I've been excited about in ages. If you haven't heard about it, you're a character with a bow, sword and horse, and pretty much human attributes. That's it (to my knowledge) for your powers. The goal of the game? 12 stages, each one consisting of seeking out a colossus, and killing it. No other enemies. The trick is, the colossi are fucking IMMENSE. Biggest enemies I've ever seen in a game. The exploration is supposed to be lots of fun, packed full of little secrets. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, not just good, really beautiful. It's from the makers of ICO, and if you've ever played that game you know what I mean. The previews from gamesites, and from people who've played the demo all seem to indicate that the gameplay's incredible fun. Somehow, i think this game has dropped under many peoples' radars. Perhaps because it's PS2 only?

I want Uwe Bol to make Dr. Mario.
-
Yeah, I agree. I do enjoy the show, and am enjoying it at its pace right now, it's just a thought I have in the back of my head when I watch it. The show doesn't suck, and I don't mean to imply it did. I'm pretty sure they're not in purgatory either, it's just the first deus ex machina that came to my mind. (Psst: JJ Abrams stated incessantly in interviews that Lauren on Alias wouldn't be evil. Guess what? She was, just like everyone thought.) The only show that has been as mysterious and densely plotted as LOST was Twin Peaks (also a huge hit at first) and it quickly went to shit under the weight of its own contrivances.
-
Well, there's a BIG one. Killing third party support and severely limiting your games can't be casually dismissed. Also having $80 games. Having NO good RPGs or fighting games is another big one. You know you have a problem if entire genres are ommitted from your system. N64 basically had good platformers and arcade-y racers. OH, THQ wrestling games too. I think Goldeneye was pretty much shit, so keep that in mind. And the controller was terrible. Those tiny little yellow buttons and that loosy-goosy analogue stick? Just horrid. My list would be: 1:SNES 2:Genesis 3:Playstation 4:NES 5:Playstation 2 6:Dreamcast 7:Gamecube 8:Saturn 9:N64 10: I dunno. GBA. <haven't played much XBOX>

Oh, I'm sorry, when you said Lance Armstrong could beat Jordan at fucking HORSE I extrapolated that you thought you were making a somewhat meaningful statement that Armstrong could somehow beat Jordan at what he plays best (BASKETBALL) Which he can't. Nice sentence! You very, very good at insults. I can see why you have a major in technology! Oh, and burrrrrn. I don't even like SNL, by the way. It's fucking terrible, nowadays. You're just a hyperventilating retard, and I wanted to point that out. I sorta liked George Foreman as host. He was bad, but he's so lovable. EDIT: Wait, wait wait: UTSU, look at these two sentences you wrote. Just LOOK at them. Motherfucker what the fuck? That's some funny, funny shit there.
-
^I'll believe it when I see it. It'll probably be something like "they're in purgatory" which will just explain away every little plot contrivance. Don't get me wrong, I still really like LOST. The episode-to-episode writing is fine, it's beautifully shot, and I like the acting. It's just, Alias left a really bad taste in my mouth, and this show is heaping on 5 times the mysteries that one did. EDIT: Of course it's more realistic that Charlie gets back on the junk, it's also (to me) fucking boring and frustrating, since that arc has already been dealt with, dramtically. It means, to me, they've already totally run out of ideas for his character.
