Fact is, I don't think Bush is a stupid person, but why does he get a pass for saying he's a woman, and he's opposed to freedom and all that? Because he MISSPOKE. No one in their right mind can claim that Gore intended to lay claim to creating the internet. Yet he gets both hammered and misquoted for this one quote. Do you honestly believe he thought he invented the internet? Or that he even thought he could make people believe he invented the internet? Of course not. That would be silly. As an aside, the Bush Soverignty quote IS really bad. Balanced by his awesome "want some wood?" quote. When I heard that quote I envisioned trade negotiationgs as follows: Hey, Japan. I hear ya got some robots, and some pokermen. (pause) Want some wood? Clearly why he won. He is at least one, if not more, internet better than Gore.

Well, saying 'hey how come black people drink 40s and smoke crack' isn't a good way to start a conversation. I know why I used to drink 40s. They fuck you up very, very quickly, for cheap. Same reason people would smoke crack, or huff glue, or drink listerine, or anything else like that. Every answers going to be like that. 'Why do black people like BBQ?" "Same reason white people do, it tastes good."

Let's keep things in perspective, shall we? "Tribal sovereignty means that, it's sovereign. You're a—you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And, therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." "Karyn is with us. A West Texas girl, just like me." "[T]he illiteracy level of our children are appalling." "There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again." "The legislature's job is to write law. It's the executive branch's job to interpret law." "It's clearly a budget. It's got a lot of numbers in it." "I talked to my little brother, Jeb...I haven't told this to many people. But he's the governor of...I shouldn't call him my little brother...my brother, Jeb, the great governor of Texas." JIM LEHRER: "Florida." GOV. BUSH: "Florida. The state of the Florida." "Will the highways on the Internet become more few?" "This is Preservation Month. I appreciate preservation. It's what you do when you run for president. You gotta preserve."—Speaking during "PERSEVERENCE Month" "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" "I hear there's rumors on the Internets that we're going to have a draft."

To be fair, it happens on both sides, like the "SpongeBob is gay" fallacy, but I hate it nonetheless. Then why wasn't he quoted as saying that? Why was everyone going on and on about how he 'invented the internet'?

Why do white people huff gas and eat nothing but potted meat product and mayonaisse on wonder bread (no crust) all day?
-
Stupid quote, but he clearly didn't mean he invented the internet. I have never heard the above quoted, unless you look for it. It's always 'he invented the internet'.

Can other places throw you out for essentially claiming to know what you are thinking?

This seems to have no criteria. Is it influential bands? Or popular bands? If it's influential why are U2 and springsteen so high? If it's popular why is the Velvet Underground so high? It seems maybe to be a list of bands which will be remembered. Which is totally arbitrary, and makes this list weird, because while people KNOW who Prince is, I don't think many people listen to him anymore (I do) while Miles Davis is an icon who will be remembered forever. Nine Inch Nails? I liked them when I was 13-14, but come ON! Their heyday was ONE ALBUM. And if it's Rock Icons, The Doors should be much higher, because take 'em or leave 'em, Morrisson's going to have a devoted following for a long time. Which is just a wordy way of saying, what the hell is up with this list?

I really hate that faux-Cake thing he's trying to do during the verses. It's awful. The Cake guy at least varies his intonation outside of two notes. The lyrics are crap too. The chorus ain't too bad.

I've never been a huge fan of Green Day, but they did what they did, i.e. slightly punky pop, OK I guess. I don't see how they get all this recognition for an album full of awful songs with really simple politics interjected. The title track flat out sucks, and may be their worst song. "Holiday in Cambodia" has 10 times more bite than this whole overrated album put together.

Wah Wah wahhhh... Good job Ripper. It boggles my mind how these things continue to circulate. Everytime some radio host makes some snide mention about how Al Gore 'invented the internet' I want to break something. If anything, this just shows how excellent smear artists are at their jobs.

Yeah, I should have used a caveat: The Star Ocean games (and the Tales game, which I never took a shine to, but aren't bad) have you controlling one character in real-time with the ability to switch between party members. It was done best in Star Ocean 2, but it's not really turn-based, though you can pause. Oh, and the Lunars aren't too much. (PS version, that is) good story, great characters (Mostly due to the excellent translation I think) and a VERY standard and uninspiring combat system.

SSX is SO the shit in a genre that I don't typically care for. As long as they have my girl Kaori, I'll be happy. Supa Excellent!

Shadow Hearts 1 & 2 are good and cheap. FFX was darn good, if you can sit through cinematics. Avoid FFX-2. Suikoden III & IV are ok, but aren't nearly as good as the first two. Star Ocean: Til the End of Time has been good so far. I didn't much like Xenosaga. I haven't played the newest Shin Megami Tensei game, but my experience with the series is AWESOME storyline, eh gameplay. Old gems: Valkyrie Profile! (rare and expesnsive, worth it.) Suikodens I & 2 (#2 is ungodly expensive, and probably worth it.) Of course FFVI & VII, Chrono Trigger. Star Ocean 2! Fallout, Fallout 2 for PC. Also Anachronox, but it's basically half of a game that'll never be finished. Regarding games like Suikoden II and Valkyrie Profile, I bought them cheap, and intend to hold on to them. However, if you haven't played them, you can always buy them on eBay, play them and take good care of them, then sell them back, at worst probably losing about $10. I cannot reccomend those two above games highly enough.

In revelations his spirit had a golden sword coming straight out of his mouth, so, hey, when you die you have that going for you.

Well, Cheney's such a prick there'd likely be a Dem in the White House next time. It would make for a good show, though. He'd eventually get pissed enough at a press conference that a vein in his head would pop, showering the audience with blood while he screamed "FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU!" And he'd eventually give someone little like Kucinich a powerbomb.

I vote for Goldberg Spears. Because I'm lame.

Do you just giggle to yourself while you're walking down the street, then?

So the only type of foolin' around is cunnilingus. Figures.

I don't think anyone's surprised at all that they're trying to do it. I think it's a matter of whether it should be legal. I personally think prostitution is more ethical than casinos.

It's all about where you come from. Elvis was richer than God, he was still a hick.

Bush is polarizing because people don't like him. He's had a mediocre approval rating, especially considering he had the wave of 9/11 patriotism going for him. Clinton had kick-ass approval ratings. People liked him. And to preempt the logical response, Bush won because Kerry was awful. People also cannot get over the 2000 elections. Conservatives would have been just as steamed if it had been Bush in that second slot on the butterfly ballot. The 2000 elections were ruined by general incompetence, not 'stolen' but either side coming out on the losing end was going to lose its shit. I doubt there's been a single president who hasn't had multiple Secret Service investigations into death threats. However, people REALLY don't like Bush, the right-wing bloggers are very good at picking these things out (remember the Hitler/Moveon stuff, when it was like 2 out of 1000's of submitted videos?), and just a general resentment in politics. Listen to any right or left-wing radio show, and you'll hear the word fascist and Hitler bandied about so much it'll make you sick. BOTH sides are guilty of this, and people need to grow the fuck up in this country.

Hey, this was an interesting CronoT topic.

Anyone ever see the special on the team of MIT students who had a little card-counting racket (led by a prof) going? That was neato.
