    Republican Convention

Oh my God, that's just wonderful. Cheers, Slapnuts. I wish Dean was still making those speeches. He brightened up my life. I think he should have a segment on Comedy Central where he blasts Bush and breaks 2x4s over his own head. Damn, Zell looks like he's seeing the ark of the covenant in most of those pictures.

GOP to back ban on gay marriage

If that's what the amendment says MikeSC, it's essentially EXACTLY like the Defense of Marriage Act, which is in effect right now. So why would they even try the amendment?

    Protests in NYC

Jesus, I'm not talking about protesting being ludicrous, have you read the news? I haven't read the constitution in a couple of the years, so if I screw this up, correct me: Could someone point me to the paragraph that gives you the right to spit on and beat the shit out of people with whom you disagree? There are MULTIPLE instances of assaults, not one. And spitting on people could be legal (probably isn't) But yes, that's ludicrous. I was here for WTO. That's not how you make a point people.

GOP to back ban on gay marriage

Can anyone make a case against civil unions? And Paul H, Smiley humor isn't considered an effective argument. It's pretty much just giving up and calling someone a poopface. as to NAMBLA, that's bullshit. Pedophilic relationships clearly harm the young party. Being gay is a trend? Dude, I wouldn't want to have sex with someone to whom I was not attracted, subjecting myself to ridicule, just to be 'hip'.

KKK, I don't think you appreciate just HOW LARGE some of their buildings are and HOW WACKY their transit system is! Yankees!

GOP to back ban on gay marriage

Don't forget the selfish hedonism that springs into action because people want to commit to a lifelong relationship. And Paul H, while I agree that the struggle isn't to the same extent as the civil rights movement; if your lover who you'd been with for many years was dying, and you couldn't see he or she because the family didn't like you, you just might want to 'stir shit up for no reason'. And if you don't think that exact thing happened during the initial spread of AIDS, you're a fool. I don't think you can make an argument that gay people can't at least get civil unions, yet they can't in many states.

GOP to back ban on gay marriage

I'm in favor of gay marriage, but don't think it should be left to the judges. Let people vote, if it doesn't work, try to convince them, and try again. No constitutional amendment though. I personally find it funny that now that the issue has come up, people are trying to say the only reason people have marriage is babies. I'm sure the argument's been made before but, old people, impotent people, people who don't want to have kids have been able to get married for a hell of a long time. The only time I've seen marriage basically defined as being only for makin' da babies is in the Bible, and if you go by the Bible, every time you have sex, it DAMN sure better be to have a kid. Otherwise it's selfish hedonism. I don't think that most Americans go by that today. Otherwise we'd probably have a population problem on the level of China. And if your objection to gay marriage is that they can't make babies, news flash, they've been able to adopt for quite a while now. And Spiff? The destruction of the very fabric of society? Jesus. It sound like it's going to be like 28 Days Later if gays start getting married. I'm gonna go build a bomb shelter. Later!

I'm sick of self-referential NYC humor. You've got subways and taxis and you live in a really, really large city. Sweet. Stop being so fucking smug about it, it's not that big a deal.

Is the Republican party by nature, the Majority?

It depends on where you live, duh. I live in WA state, where the vast majority of people are liberal. Say you don't like affirmative action and they'll call you a fascist. I used to go to school in NO, where the vast majority of people I knew were Conservative. Say you're in favor of gay marriage and they call you a 'queer lover'. It's asinine to debate whether being a lefty or righty is brave or not. The only thing that's cowardly is just telling everyone what they want to hear.

Haven't had one of these stories in a while

It truly tugs at my heartstrings to see the CE board unify and declare that torturing kittens is wrong.

    Protests in NYC

If Kerry doesn't decry some of this ludicrous behaviour, he's associating himself with it. Even Rodney King asked us to all get along.

    Protests in NYC

It's going to win Bush the election, IMO. It'll fuel assertions by people like Mike that lame-ass 'anarchists' who work themselves into a froth are what make up the Democratic base. Frankly, it's turning my vote to Bush.

This whole attempt to compare Bush to Churchill

I'm loathe to type anything like /sarcasm off, though. It's just stupid. I'm hoping INXS is being sarcastic in his last post, but I don't think he is. Shit, Clinton probably made twice as much that year making speaking appearances. Doesn't mean anything.

This whole attempt to compare Bush to Churchill

I was being sarcastic. OF COURSE he was fucking popular pre-9/11. I guess the Mr. Show maxim that sarcasm is difficult to communicate in type is proven.

Bush doesn't think we can win the War on Terror

This is the worst example of people culling quotes to make politicians look bad. When I heard the quote in context, I knew exactly what Bush meant.

This whole attempt to compare Bush to Churchill

Yeah, because, you know, Gulliani wasn't popular before 9/11.

Lady Astor: "Winston, if I were your wife I'd put poison in your coffee." Winston Churchill: "Nancy, if I were your husband I'd drink it." Churchill was the shit.

Unfortunately, it's a bit pricey. I picked up the Chris Ware ACME novelty guide for cheap as free locally, though!

    IMHO

Just read Jimmy Corrigan, and I gotta say, in terms of art and story, it's the best ever. Nothing I've ever read has made me cry, but Corrigan teared me up on a couple occassions, it's sort of an apples/oranges scenario with Watchmen [which I wholeheartedly love], but I heartily reccomend Jimmy Corrigan: The smartest Boy in the World . If you have a capacity for being really blue, that is.

    Best Ninja Game Poll

There are parts of the original Ninja Gaiden late in the game where the respawning of enemies seriously fucks you up. Getting through the first few levels of games like Castlevania is easy. It's once you hit the last two or three. I believe the fourth level of Castlevania is where the game starts to get serious about killing you every 2 steps. If you're a kid, and you buy a game and can't get past the 2nd level, you just might feel a little peeved. You've essentially bought a demo for $50.
  22. If they don't care, why do they spend time shutting down ROM sites? (probably easier to do than getting their lazy asses to the mall) Most ROM sites I imagine just break even, and like it or not, there are TONS of people who bought games in the past, but don't want to spend $50 on eBay again, since carts inevitably break down. These guys are clearly profiting from someone else's work. It's fucking ridiculous to say that they have mouths to feed. So do bank robbers, hit men, drug dealers, etc. They don't have mouths to feed, they want to live lavishly by stealing. period.

    Who likes Kerry?

During the Democratic primaries, I liked Dean for a while, until he couldn't hold his tongue. (the scream notwithstanding, I actually like a politician showing passion in front of a crowd.) I liked Edwards, since he was glib, optimistic, and a 2nd rate Clinton, who I liked. I liked Sharpton, though not as a presidential candidate, because he was passionate, brought up legitimate issues, and gave a great rendition of 'momma told me not to run.' I didn't like Kerry. He was dull. He relied too much on being a war hero. (my bro's a war hero, and I don't want him to be prez), and I think Dems elected him just becuase he looked dignified. I thought I'd vote anyone but Bush, but now I'm leaning towards voting wnyone but Bush/Kerry. I like Edwards a lot more than Cheney, but that's not who we are voting for, is it? So, for the fellow Bush-haters out there, I must ask: Why should I give my vote to Kerry? Besides being notBush? BTW, I think this is the worst 'lesser of two evils' scenario I've ever faced. And yes, worse than Gore.

One of them should sponsor 'free ice cream sandwich day" who doesn't like an ice cream sandwich. That could unite the country.

    Conservative economics

I, like many liberals at the time, loved John McCain during the 2000 race. He inspired me to investigate the tenets of economic conservatism. While I still gravitate towards the liberal issues on social matters (such as gay marriage) I truly think 99% of the populace would be better served if we limited government programs and tried to curb waste. The nat'l sales tax would be one thing that I actually like. Problem is, I don't like Bush's social policies, and he's an economic LIBERAL. He's spent more money than maybe any prez ever. Don't talk to me about the Johns accusing him of spending to little on social programs (like education) becuase I KNOW that's bull, and I don't like Kerry in the least. The question is, will we ever get another economic conservative? Is it even a popular stance nowadays?
