If you like political intrigue, and don't mind slower moving movies, check out the Patlabor movies.

Mark Foley asks, "Do I make you a little horny?"
Special K replied to vivalaultra's topic in Current Events
Ouch, that chest on the one in the middle is blinding. Listened to a little right-wing radio today, to get their take. Limbaugh's take is it was the kids' fault and they were 'goading' Foley. This from the guy who played the ENTIRETY of "Where have all the cowboys gone" for the guy who beat up his daughters teacher because she said he made advances on her. (later found false) Foley SAID he sent those messages. He's in rehab. He said he was molested by a priest. He's not even trying to deny it! And yet it's not only the Aides' fault, it's now the entire Democratic party. Oh also, now the "Democrats have linked homosexuality with pedophilia." Which is so forehead-slappingly wrong. http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=84784 Thank goodness for Dan Savage. -
The Daily Show/Colbert Report Thread
Special K replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in Television & Film
The guy was clearly onto the joke from pretty much the get-go, trying not to crack up. The exchange went something like this: SC: Say something that would make you lose the election if you were contested. RW: *doesn't understand* SC: Finish this sentence. "I enjoy cocaine because...." RW: *smiling* I enjoy cocaine because... It's a fun thing to do! SC: I enjoy the company of prostitutes because RW: I enjoy the company of prostitutes because... It's a fun thing to do! *finally breaks* They're probably even more fun to do together! And seeing an old clip of Steve Carell warmed the cockles of my heart. He was so funny on the show. -
The Daily Show/Colbert Report Thread

Colbert is the better of the two shows. I can't believe the Today Show took clips of Wexler saying "I like cocaine because it's a fun thing to do" and treated it like this scandalout interview. Nice of Steve to break character to tell them off. I don't understand how he breaks so much though, he never did on the Daily Show. Nerves I guess. Stewart was super-nervous when he took over TDS. -
That cracked me up. Just read an interview with Millar over at Newsarama, and it's pretty bad. Two standout quotes: Rather than it would make sense? The parody was not only funny, but it was spot-on. They created a Thor clone, were drilling his head, and then they hired ridiculously evil characters like Bullseye to help them.

Memorable examples of WWE, burying a wrestler while..
Special K replied to a topic in General Wrestling
Taz losing the ECW title in a 3-way elimination within about a minute. (though he went on to job in a longer match with RVD) Jericho in WCW was jobbed heavily, and was supposed to lose the skirt match, but Saturn liked the skirt for whatever reason. HHH numerous times said he ran Rock out of the company while he was just off filming movies. May not fit the criteria, but man did Vince bury Dusty. And the worst attempt at burying was the Rick Rude impersonator getting whipped by DX after Rude made them look like a fool by appearing at the beginning of Nitro and burying the WWE. For that matter, when will companies learn that impersonating other companies stars makes you look like a bushleague crybaby? See: Asya Oklahoma Nacho Man/Huckster/Ted Turner Gillberg Fake Diesel & Razor Ok Gillberg's entrance was pretty funny with the sparklers and piped chants, but did it distract from the fact that Goldberg was a rising star? -
I really don't like the Killers, but at least they do seem to be changing their sound. Sounds more like Billy Joel than Sprinsgsteen to me, tho.

As of now I think Grave of thew Fireflies and the Elephant Man are the only movies to make me actually cry. I guess it's all or nothing, I was holding back tears for the majority of both movies. Both are terrific movies, I don't relish watching them again. yours? P.S. I think I remember crying when Peter Weller in RoboCop got fucked up. I was 10, then though.

Cary Elwes pre-'Saw'-puffiness is clearly the best choice.

I'll miss Gutts, I mean Arngrim.

They're apparently going to run a storyline called "back in black" after Civil War, where he goes back to a black suit. (presumably not the symbiote) ostensibly to help tie in to SM3

^Indeed. And I can see him pulling off an alcoholic playboy. I'm just glad they didn't cast some 25-year-old.

I have a question, and I know you all have it, too. What is up Hillary’s ass? All she wants to do is fuck us up, the dick-licker! Now the Lord said, ‘I am the light of the world.’ Now, He could as easily have said, ‘I am King Shit of Fuck Mountain. Why would you fuck with me?!’ Now, I’ll tell you what. I am the only preacher with the fuckin' balls, (and you know this) to say: "Hillary I damn thee! You goddamm motherfuckin', shit-eatin', cock-suckin', son of a B!" Can I get a fuckin' A?

Dama sort of reminds me of David St. Hubbins, especially during the (Listen to the) Flower People stage. Can't find a good pic.

Sure: The Ultimates is an alternate Marvel universe, such as M2 (Spider-Girl universe) or the Mangaverse. An elseworlds title, basically. There are the core titles: Ultimate Spidey, Ultimate X-Men And the Ultimates (basically Ultimate Avengers) They all relate to each other and cross over numerous times. It's a more 'mature' take, I suppose. Cap's ridiculously Mr. hard-core soldier. When Hulk rampages it actually has consequences. Thor might be a God or might just be a crazy homeless guy in a suit with a hammer. etc. Nick Fury runs the group and looks exactly like Samuel L. Jackson, intentionally. The role of the government in the series thankfully isn't black and white. I like the writing. The characters are sharply defined, and the latest plot is just terrific, and very intense. The artwork is magnificent. It's one of the only books I pick up regularly. And along with Ultimate Spidey is the only Marvel book I pick up regularly. A serious caveat though: it's probably the most delayed book since Battle Chasers.

I'm sure the parts in 'Kazakhstan' are scripted too. This movie looks absolutely hilarious, and a good unscripted send-off for Sach. He's just not as funny scripted, as seen in Bobby Rickey and Ali G: Indahouse (okay that one had some moments). He should have a nice career after this movie, though.

Well, they're blowing it with Blu-Ray. I mean, have you seen the shots of Gears of War or Halo 3? Those aren't my types of games, but you don't need better graphics than that. So they must be spending their time and money on Blu-Ray, eviscerating their one cash cow (Playstation) It's absolutely stupid. I mean shit, in the upcoming format wars, the US is going to drive the market. And I don't even think that many people are ready to switch formats for at least another 5 years. Sony has never launched a format successfully, and they're fucking BLOWING it.

Ghost Rider Wolverine Hulk! Best EVAR~! DC is just so much better now, and I'm a Marvel fanboy. I may noy like a lot of the decisions they're making (like killing every minor character I like) but at least the stories are very compelling. The Ultimate line is still pretty good, tho.* *pending whatever the hell Bendis is doing in USM. P.S> Did the Ultimate Galactus story ever finish? It was pretty dull, so I didn't really pay attention.

I shudder to think of realistic, Advent Children-like models for Mario or Mickey.

Man, I got owned this week. Totally expected when Larry Johnson, Lamont Jordan, Tony Gonzalez and Terry Glenn were all on bye. Plus Housh's status was uncertain so I benched him and Palmer, and am starting Vick.

Yay, Seahawks! I don't think I've ever seen this much gloating in the local papers. They just might have a chance to finish above .500 this year, Super Bowl curse be damned. Next week should be really good. And yay! Bengals. Steelers can take a big ol' suck on the devil's pecker.

I thought they'd keep it just a little more ambivalent about which side you're supposed to think is in the right. Guess not. I was surprised that Cap kicked Spidey's ass. Spidey, with his superhuman strength, agility, spider-sense and fancy new suit can't beat an essentially really good fighter who's in good shape. Cloned Thor is so stupid on so many levels. He comes equipped with a magical hammer? Really? If you cloned Dr. Doom would he come complete with crazy armor and magical powers? I mean, I realize this is comic books we're talking about, but that is just dumb.

Steph and Trish actually had something of a miraculously decent match.
