Should all PPV matches have build up videos?
MillenniumMan831 replied to natey2k4's topic in The WWE Folder
Epic music videos for the top 2 or 3 matches are fine or even for a long running-undercard feud like Kidman/London was. Some simple b-roll highlights before/during entrances for the rest of the matches are fine. If EVERY match gets an epic buildup, none of the matches would seem epic anymore. -
Make that 4 matches . . . the 2 Tag Title Matches, CW Open, and Women's Title Match. Plus, all the hype videos are hacked outta there, except for UT/Kane. The quality is surprisingly good for EP though as they clipped the event down to 3 hours.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

They must have screwed up the date. Sounds like par for the course. Should have said 1995. -
Anyone else miss the "good old days" of 2000?
MillenniumMan831 replied to Jingus's topic in General Wrestling
Didn't Steph make lil comments about Kurt's cuteness as early as late 1999 during Angle's undefeated streak? IIRC, HHH would book Angle against the odds just to mess w/ Steph a little bit (Angle vs. Mark Henry, Angle vs. Headbangers, ect). It wasn't meant to be serious at the time but it obviously escalated after the brunt of the Rock/HHH feud was done. -
Damn, the FYE here still has tapes from 2001 for $19.99.....Insuxxxertion is tempting if it drops to around $5. Yeah, the prices vary but if one picks up the release in the 1st week, it's usually discounted down to $10-11. But the last 4-6 months, they've been $8 . . . $7.50ish when my lil 5% off card comes into play. I'd be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts some of those tapes MAY be marked down when you take them to the regsiter.

As far as glitches go, is this LOW: Showdown bad or not?
-
I stuck w/ VHS this whole time as far as ppvs go. Yeah, the quality on 90% is lackluster as they use EP except for a few in which they used SP for no rhyme or reason. I will miss not being able to pick up ppvs on VHS for $7.49 at FYE. The reason I haven't converted to dvds yet is that I feel like I'd be starting my collection over since I have 525+ commercial masters on VHS over the years. But oblahdee oblahdahh, Life Goes On.

Who was better in 1995, WWF or WCW?
MillenniumMan831 replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
While the only storyline that intrigued me from the WWF was Razor/Kid/Dean saga, Nitro kicking off puts WCW over the top despite a lackluster 1st half of the year. The fact that a weekly wrestling show would be live every week with zero blantant squash matches was something I've never seen before. Intriguing stuff. Plus, other than War Games, Fall Brawl was excellent. -
The Lisa Ortiz Copeland side of the story

If that's the company Matt Hardy's hangin out with now, I wouldn't mind being his photographer. -
Things that seemingly everyone hated
MillenniumMan831 replied to Gary Floyd's topic in General Wrestling
Me too. The ridiculously annoying laugh of Brian Christopher, pre Grand Masta Sexy, was great. I'm on that bandwagon. Loved the gimmick from the word go and Lawler's commentary was actually entertaining during their matches. They were the best to play the two little fruitcakes tag team w/o being out-and-out gay . . . just flamboyant. -
It's well documented since 1998ish or so (year can be argued), Flair has pretty much played a senile has-been who held World Championships seemingly eons ago. The kids watching today know him as the guy who spazzes out at a moment's notice and goes "Woooooo" a lot. While this makes most wrestling purists sick to their stomachs, Lord knows many others as well as myself have gotten a ton load of entertainment value out of his shtick. So, feel free to post your favorite Old Man Flair moments. Elbow dropping a beer can, handcuffing himself to the top rope, dancing at the mental hospital, they're all welcome here. I'll get the ball rolling w/ a rant he did during a Hugh Morris w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Van Hammer hardcore match from Nitro in the summer of 1999. It can also be seen on BATB 1999 in the Steiner/Hammer build . . . (Morrus is about to moonsault Hammer through a table while Hart holds him down . . . enter Flair marching down to the ring) Flair: Whhoooaaaaaaa . . . Whoooaaaaaaa . . . Jimmy! Jimmy Hart!! Jimmy Hart!!! Stop the show! (turns to camera) What are you lookin at? (turns to fan) You keep your mouth shut toothless. (attention back to ring) There is to NEVER be another hardcore match in a WCW ring ever again! (Morrus gives Hammer a cheapshot) Hey, you knock that off! Morrus: Flair! For 4 years, you never cared about me in the Dungeon of Doom. The First Family is comin' on strong . . . Flair: WHO YOU TALKIN' TO?!? Morrus: You may be the president, but get the hell out of my match! Flair: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!! No more hardcore! Morrus: It's MY MATCH! (Meanwhile Hammer is up and is ready to clothesline Morrus/Hart w/ the table) Flair: NO MORE HARDCORE! NO MORE HARDCORE!! You want hardcore?!? Morrus: Yeah. Flair: Fine, you can have it. (Morrus/Hart get clotheslined w/ said table and Hart tumbles out of the ring) There, ya got your hardcore. NO MORE HARDCORE! (Turns to Hart) JIMMY HART, YOU KNOW BETTER THAN THAT!!! (Turns to the same fan) Don't you backtalk me punk, I'll slap you right across the mouth! (Ref escorts Flair out of the ring area) And in typical WCW fashion, Hammer proceedes to suplex Morrus through the table anyway.

I must have been among the few that thought they were alright in the ring. They never looked too out of their league although they certainly appeared to have butterflies (who wouldn't?). They were more about being entertaining than putting on a wrestling clinic but I thought they 'worked' a great match for a debut.

It's evolved from his past character of it being "All About the Benjamins!"
-
It's a shame too, cause he could have (or still could) drawn real money w/ Shelton Benjamin if he wanted to. Benjamin has got the most long-term star potential as a wrestler/performer than anyone else on the roster.
-
^^^ Agreed w/ everything except the Sting observation. Regardless of his gimmick at the time, he could connect w/ fans w/o silly catchphrases and overboard threats like few other.
-
I don't think the last one is 1/2 bad but I wouldn't pay money for it.
-
They would probably be panned as two talentedless hosses though if they went through w/ a rehash of a similiar gimmick.
-
When did he ever bump around the ring?
-
They're probably just trying to keep his mouth shut.

There was an amusing scene in Beyond the Mat where Mick Foley, Colette, their kids, Shane McMahon, and The Rock are all mingling before the I Quit Match at RR99 when Austin came into the picture to greet everybody. Foley had to ask Steve about three times how he was before he finally heard him.

It's horrendous in kayfabe how a "superhero" tag team (albeit a low card team) is booked THAT MUCH weaker than a formidable upper-midcarder and his string-bean manager.
-
Jimmy Hart has always struck me as too laid back and content w/ life to write a truly captivating, enthrawling book. But it's that same attitude that I dig about him. Seems like one of the few good guys in wrestling.

How was the Death of WCW? Was it more of a factual timeline of info or more like Wrestlecrap The Book Volume II? Thanks.
