    Smackdown Spoilers for 8.22.08

Maybe the whole title changing during the match will turn into an angle. For example, if MVP scores a pin during the match but HHH emerges victorious at the end, MVP can tout himself as a former WWE Champion and thus deserving of a shot to get "his" belt back. The announcers will note that MVP is not officially recognized as a former WWE Champion since he didn't win the scramble.

Comments that don't warrant a thread

His promos are a little sucky, but everything else about TBK is money. The swagger, the chickenshit aura, and not the least of which his jacket.

    Re: SD's 3rd segment . . . I was thinking the very same thing.

    Vince McMahon's Favorite Wrestlers

I can only assume Vince has always loved the Samoan contingent (and the overall savage gimmick) in WWF/E (Afa, Sika, Samu, Fatu, Umaga, ect).

Let's Talk About: The Stars and Stripes Challenge 1993

The only attempt to transition the Narcississt character to American Hero was Luger claiming that people would misinterpret his shyness for arrogance. I guess the mirrors didn't help.

Let's Talk About: The Stars and Stripes Challenge 1993

They heavily hyped Crush as the odds on favorite the week before the event. They had him slam Bastion Booger on Raw 3 times to drive the point home. Bill Fralic got scarily close to slamming him as Hebner (or whoever was the ref) dashed in to break it up before he could get any more momentum.

AWA Wrestling back on the air

Imagine how cool it would be for the Hulkamania generation to have Larry Nelson interviewing Hogan every week. Caught most of Friday's show. DeBeers' promo was good stuff. While Bloom goes w/ FatJack, DeBeers prefers FlipFlop to describe Scott Norton. Also, DeBeers selling the 'new' info that Norton is a champion arm wrestler was great. Larry Z also had an entertaining promo. He really looks so goofy w/ the championship though. Granted, they were kind of out of options . . . I mean DJ Peterson is getting a title match on Tues's ep (unless they skip ahead again). Any chance we may get WCCW episodes? I was watching a Von Erich/SST match from World Class in 1988 and there were ESPN banners in the arena. I can only assume ESPN broadcasted both promotions. Either way, I could go for some WCCW even in their later years.

    WWE SummerSlam 2008

From the sublime to the ridiculous. Maybe Jeff and Crime Time can lift Matt up on their shoulders w/ confetti dropping from the ceiling.

    WWE SummerSlam 2008

If this was TNA, HBK's wife would turn on him tomorrow night and side w/ Jericho.

    Foley to TNA????

I've said this a million times before, but I think it's the small size of the ring that makes them look second rate. It's much harder to get heat in a tag match since all the face has to do is a tumble towards his corner and he's pretty much there.

    Many guys released

Not to mention Morrison threw salt in his eyes on this week's Dirt Sheet.

    The SummerSlam Thread

I wouldn't have had that much of a problem w/ the 1993 finish if Luger hadn't sold it like he won 16 championships in one night. He could have at least had a smirk on his face with his hands on his hips as if to say "Well yeah I won, but damn I wanted the belt." This is where the Steiners and Tatanka could have quickly ran in to boost his spirits and they all could have celebrated.

    The SummerSlam Thread

1.) Favorite SummerSlam show overall? SummerSlam 1991 - Such a great feel good show. 2.) Favorite world title match? I really can't think of one that stands heads and shoulders above the rest. I really didn't dig Austin/Taker like most here do. The buildup ruled but being 16, I was kind of jazzed to see a Russo overbooked mess similar to OTE and KOTR that year. Eh, I'll go Savage/Warrior from 1992 since it aired in the states on my 10th birthday. 3.) Favorite mid card title match? IC Title - Mr Perfect vs Bret Hart - 1991 Great match considering Perfect's condition and was a perfect example of a wrestler PUTTING SOMEBODY OVER big time. 4.) Favorite tag title match? TLC - 2000. Though Steiners/Bodies was a fun bout in 93. 5.) Favorite non-title match? Off the top of my head, I'll go Hart Foundation vs Brain Busters 6.) Favorite segment? The Mountie goes to jail bits 7.) Things you hated besides Goldberg screwed out of winning the Elimination Chamber? HHH having to shit on HBK immediately after their 2002 street fight. And I wasn't even a HBK mark at the time. Still not, but I've mellowed out on him greatly over the years. 8. Least favorite SummerSlam overall? I'll say SummerSlams 2004-2007 since they all just bleed together for me. 9. Least favorite match? I guess Taker/Mankind from 1996. So fuckin long. 10. Most underrated SummerSlam? 1994 seems about right to me. 11. Most underrated SummerSlam match? I'll go 1-2-3 Kid/Hakushi from 1995. HOT opener to a show many consider the worst in SS history. Tremendous match.

    TSM Death Pool - 2008

Sam Kinison was awesome for ten seconds, tolerable for another ten seconds, and grating the rest of the way.

    WWE.com Legacy

Rather than spew though all the videos for the month since they can be found, http://www.wwe.com/subscriptions/247online/august08 I figured I'd just list the matches for the specials: Howard Finkel's Top 10 SummerSlam Matches: Part 2 #5 Hair vs Hair - X-Pac vs Jeff Jarrett - 1999 #4 WWF Championship - Cage - Ultimate Warrior vs Rick Rude - 1990 (Dammit, would it have killed them to air the 1989 one instead?!?) #3 IC Title - Ladder - Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon - 1995 (MUCH better than WMX IIRC) #2 Boiler Room Brawl - Undertaker vs Mankind - 1996 (They posted this match last August and I still haven't watched it) #1 IC Title - Mr Perfect vs Bret Hart - 1991 (On the flip side, I've seen this match 3,492 times and it still hasn't grown old . . . well, for the most part) WWF at The Spectrum 8/27/1988 Leaping Lanny Poffo vs Outlaw Ron Bass Hart Foundation vs Fabulous Rougeau Brothers WWF Championship - Randy Savage vs Ted DiBiase Jake Roberts vs Rick Rude (Yeah, they cut a few matches but no biggie to me. I'll take partial old school cards like this any day)

    Ric Flair gone from WWE?

From Davey Meltz: I guess that explains why there was never a 2nd ep to wwe.com's "Stylin & Profilin".

    Coliseum and WWE Home Videos

Similar to that I remember a tag match between Hart/Savage vs Michaels/Flair on Grudges, Gripes, & Grunts from July 20th, 1992. Hart was IC Champ and Savage was WWF Champ. Ross referred to Hart as a former WWF Champion.

    The Old School questions thread

I'll give ECW Anarchy Rulz a pass. IIRC, every single person on the ECW roster at the time was in the game so that was a plus. Plus, the moves were slightly easier to pull off then in previous Acclaim games. And they added Brimstone, Dumpster, & Parking Lot matches. I was a mark for doing team rumble matches w/ The Network. As for WCW Mayhem, that was the eptiome of a decent wrestling game in almost every category.

    The Old School questions thread

I have no idea but I remember being pissed you couldn't do Royal Rumbles on the PS1 version. Though War mode was fun at the time.

I'll admit, Beau Beverly calling Norton "Fat Jack" made me laugh.

AWA Wrestling back on the air

It was great hearing Marshall have a heart attack due to Larry's 2nd foot being on the ropes even though the replay showed he really only had one foot on the ropes.

AWA Wrestling back on the air

He does tend to be a bit off the wall but I dig it. Lee Marshall is in rare form tonight during this Larry Z/Rheighans match: "The Living Legend sold out Shea Stadium! Andre and Hogan were in the undercard!!!" "You can take your steriods and your facepaint and talking like a geek but this is wrestling!!!" Do any of these feuds have closure w/o a wrestler going to the WWF? Every time a heel escapes w/ his title, the face moans and groans like Samoa Joe . . . IT'S NOT OVER YET!

AWA Wrestling back on the air

Yeah, this stuff is quite dreadful. The only consistent bright spots are Larry Z's and the Bevery Bros promos. I swear no one in the AWA can execute or take a decent back body drop.
