WWE General Discussion - January 2008
MillenniumMan831 replied to Prophet of Mike Zagurski's topic in The WWE Folder
I'm not an HD elitist but I did purchase a HD-TV as a housewarming present to myself. I must admit, I hardly ever hover around the standard def channels anymore except for wrestling or local sports talk shows (apparently, they're not just for radio anymore). So far, I've noticed the biggest difference in quality watching basketball/hockey games. Not sure if the switch of wrestling to HD will really make THAT much of a difference in my enjoyment of it but it couldn't hurt. Besides, for every Khali/Batista match, there's a Maria and/or Mickey James entrance to watch so the pendulum goes both ways. -
I must say after reading the horror stories in the SVR thread, it makes me appreciate this game that much more.

WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - January 2008
MillenniumMan831 replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
WWE.com posted its online offering today and it's more Raw . . . a lot more Raw. Actually, it's quite a nice lineup. Shockingly enough, I don't believe any of this stuff was rehashed from the Raw XV dvd set. Raw: Episode 9 March 15, 1993 | Approx. run time: 40 mins. Not even the biggest blizzard of the year can stop Monday Night Raw from taking place. Two big matches highlight the evening, including Bob Backlund taking on Papa Shango and The Nasty Boys challenging The Headshrinkers. Plus, Bobby Heenan conducts an in-ring interview with The Giant Gonzalez. Catch all this and more on this edition of Raw. Raw: Episode 10 March 22, 1993 | Approx. run time: 34 mins. Raw returns to New York City with The Bushwhackers, Repo Man, Tatanka and Doink the Clown all in action. Also, find out who WWE inducts as its first member into the Hall of Fame. This is the final Raw before WrestleMania IX, and you don't want to miss it. Raw: Episode 11 April 5, 1993 | Approx. run time: 44 mins. Here's a bit of trivia: Which WWE Superstar's entrance music has played more times on Raw than anybody else's? If you guessed Jerry "The King" Lawler, you're correct. Not only do you get the in-ring debut of Jerry Lawler, but this is also your chance to find out all the late-breaking details and results from WrestleMania IX. Raw: Episode 12 April 12, 1993 | Approx. run time: 42 mins. This episode is famous for having the very first catfight on Raw. Sensational Sherri has some unfinished business with Luna Vachon following their WrestleMania IX encounter. Plus, Scott Steiner takes on IRS, Papa Shango wrestles a very young Scotty 2 Hotty, and we get the debut of Friar Ferguson. This is definitely the craziest Raw from 1993! Raw: Shawn Michaels vs. Razon Ramon August 1, 1994 | Approx. run time: 22 mins. Following their famous Ladder Match in WrestleMania X, this bout is the big rematch between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon, and also marked HBK's first return to the ring since. With SummerSlam only six days away, and Razor Ramon defending his Intercontinental Title against Diesel, Shawn Michaels was sent to the ring to soften up the bad guy. Could Shawn Michaels complete this daunting task, or would Razor win two straight matches against HBK? The Raw Bowl January 1, 1996 | Approx. run time: 14 mins. With the Big Game around the corner, WWE 24/7 Online is presenting The Raw Bowl. This unique match features four of the best tag teams in WWE in a Four Corners Match. This is the only match in WWE history to include cheerleaders, timeouts and a marching band! Raw: Stone Cold Stuns Mr. McMahon September 22, 1997 | Approx. run time: 5 mins. In truly one of the most defining Raw moments in WWE history, Stone Cold Steve Austin gave the Stunner to Mr. McMahon. At the time, Mr. McMahon was better known as being the broadcasting colleague of J.R. and Jerry Lawler on Raw. However, on this September night, Mr. McMahon decided to teach Stone Cold about proper behavior in WWE. Needless to say, Stone Cold heard enough and gave the Chairman his first ever Stunner. Raw: Triple H vs. Marc Mero October 21, 1996 | Approx. run time: 11 mins. Triple H has been a staple of Raw for more than 12 years. Back in 1996, Triple H had challenged Hall of Famer, Mr. Perfect to come out of retirement. On this episode of Raw, it seemed like Triple H had gotten his wish. However, after a backstage attack, officials deemed Mr. Perfect unable to compete. Marc Mero stepped in for Mr. Perfect and put the Intercontinental Title on the line against Triple H. Was this the night Triple H's golden dynasty began? Raw: Stone Cold & Dude Love vs. Owen Hart & British Bulldog July 14, 1997 | Approx. run time: 10 mins. Stone Cold Steve Austin had challenged Owen Hart and the British Bulldog to a Tag Team Title Match on Raw. Originally, it seemed like Stone Cold didn't have a partner and he'd be wrestling in a Handicap Match. After a few minutes of unfamiliar music hit, Mick Foley's character of Dude Love was born. Find out if the unlikely team of Dude Love and Stone Cold Steve Austin were able to capture the Tag Team Championship. Introducing: Chris Jericho August 9, 1999 | Approx. run time: 9 mins. Chris Jericho's return to the WWE might be one of the highlights of 2007. However, Jericho became an instant star when he debuted and interrupted The Rock back in 1999. Check out his WWE Debut for the first time ever on WWE 24/7 Online. -
Jake Roberts will die the year I don't have him on my list.

Actually by late 1992, Simmons was using Don't Step to Ron. Well, I know he used it at the 11/92 Clash. -
Until seeing that WCW vid, I forgot all about being able to pull off a one-ring War Games match (well, without a roof).

Got my fingers crossed for a decent WWE 24/7 Online offering this month. I was hoping they would be posted already since matches don't get posted on holidays/weekends. -
Got a PS2 Slim for Christmas (was borrowing a friend's PS2 before) and finally got the AR MAX to work w/ a regular flash drive. Fire Pro is now full of 1980s WWF goodness. It's SNME every day of the week I haven't seen this posted yet here but here are some YouTube vids of FPR: - WWF 1988 - ECDub - DubCDub 1998

My CW affiliate as an HD logo on the corner of the screen but of course, the HD feed is not available in my area. -
So of course I ended up watching the Colts/Titans game afterall. Jim Sorgi is lucky to have a job as a backup. Granted, he was throwing to 2nd stringers, but other than his TD throw, I don't think any of his throws had any zip at all to them. A QB really has to suck to have his potential game winning drive not even get a fuckin first down. He looked like a nervous wreck too. That said, yes, The Browns should have defeated the Bengals and didn't so as Romeo Crenell would say "That's life in the NFL." And if Cleveland has an offseason like they had last year and stay relatively injury-free, they can easily have 12 wins next year.
-
Aw fuck, I don't think I can watch this Colts/Titans game.
-
Really? I found that they dry out quite a bit. Then again, it could have been shitty chicken *shrugs*

Kind of rudimentary but hot dogs taste nice in them . . . hamburgers, not so much.

Let's talk about Rex, Baby. Let's talk about you and me.

www.nfl.com/live has pretty good coverage of the NFL Network games if you don't mind the talking heads popping up a little more often than they're welcome. -

Please Mr Dungy, do not bench your starters next week. -

Anderson was awful today. What sucks is having to hear every Cleveland fan beg to have Quinn start next week since 'Anderson isn't the answer'. Eh well. J-E-T-S!!! -
For as silly as AA's forgetting your underwear analogy was, I loved the DUI comparison.

I would get a Max Drive, but after already purchasing the wrong one, I really don't want to buy another one unless I was 100% sure it would work. As for creating wrestlers, I really don't have the patience for it. I'd nit pick on the stupidest details and get virtually nothing accomplished.

If anyone has the saves from gamefaqs w/ the ECW/1988 WWF/ect guys w/ the logos (if not, I can e-mail them), I'd definitely be willing to break out the ol paypal for a memory card of that.

If anyone deserves a sympathy Rumble victory, it's Kane. I would say barring another quad tear, HHH will draw #1, eliminate 18 guys, and win the Rumble in what will be hyped by the machine as "The Most Dominant Royal Rumble Victory Ever!" -

Gorilla was fine up until around 1990, but then he went downhill really badly. I don't think people hated Gorilla because of who he worked for; if that was the case, then people would have hated Jesse Ventura, and he got heavy praise for his heel commentator role. What I hated about Gorilla was when a babyface was in a submission hold, he'd either talk about how he's never seen someone give up in that hold or how the babyface was never going to submit, which turned it from a potentially match winning hold to a rest hold that people shouldn't get worried about. It killed the drama of the match. At the time I can see how saying "Hulk will never give up!" or "Nobody ever gives up to a head twist!" would kill the match's drama....but 17 years after the fact Hulk still never gives up and nobody has given up to a head twist, so it isn't like he was wrong. Whenever he did something like that, I always figured it was just his way of re-wording "This is a wear-down hold, not really a submission" because in reality they're all submission holds but nobody's going to buy a head twist as a viable finish. I definitely agree w/ that sentiment. Gorilla was the only wrestling announcer that didn't jinx match results by predicting them (squash matches aside). When McMahon or JR proclaim mid-match that Lex Luger is about to win the championship. That was the official cue that he wouldn't win. On the flip side, Monsoon was generally correct w/ his predictions (RR92 aside). It made it seem like he knew what he was talking about more than the other commentators. -
Poffo's shoot is the only one I've ever listened to more than once.
