    Debunking NBA Myths

I'm pretty sure it was 2001. Any hardcore NBA fans can correct me if I be wrong.

Since ESPN didn't do this list (as far as I know)

That's a good one. I can't pull the name right now, but I remember the incident. I also remember then-Reds owner Marge Schott being completely classless about the whole incident. I'd also add former umpire Steve Palermo getting shot while being a good Samaritan, something that ended his career as an umpire, and he was a dashed good one. Something else I haven't seen mentioned... Jimmy V succumbs to cancer.

Only on bye weeks. Your two starters are quite solid.

Heh, this has been making the rounds at work here for the last week. I was going to upload it and link to it, but it appears now I don't have to. Good stuff. "Look at me! I don't need subtitles!"

Who has a fantasy football team?

Tell me about it. We're trying to reduce the number of players drafted, since how often are you going to use your sixth RB or WR? Bye week management is easy, so you should never have more than one guy on a bye the same week. Everyone who's local. One guy got relocated to Cincy a couple years ago. He drafted via AIM until the AIM room burped too many times, and then we just did a speakerphone call. Another guy is in Vancouver now, so he also participated by AIM (and had a better connection). We drafted at one owner's house, and this house was off the hook. He has a home theatre in his basement, with rows of recliners for the chairs. No sleeping bag, but I was QUITE comfortable for the draft, which took a shade over three hours, and would've been quicker if not for the one fellow's AIM issues.

Help identify movie for my column

That definitely sounds like The Omega Man. It also sounds exactly like I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson, which was the basis for The Omega Man. Definitely a recommended read, btw.

    The Mini-camp/Preseason NFL Thread

Getting Gordon would be a good pickup for the Dolphins, especially since they have an extra third-round pick. And regarding Pennington's contract, I'm tired of the media reporting these ridiculous contracts that will never be honored. Pennington is guaranteed about $20m over the next two seasons. After that, his deal will be reworked again. Remember Drew Bledsoe's supposed $100m deal? He never saw the absurd back-end money before that deal was torn up and replaced by a new one. NFL contracts are not guaranteed, and once the team has gotten a couple years out of the deal, while being as friendly to the salary cap as possible, they'll either redo the contract or release the player.

    Debunking NBA Myths

The big difference in defense is that the zone defense has been legal in the NBA for several years now. Back in the 80's, this wasn't the case. Man-to-man defense was required, and quick, skilled players could exploit the fact that they were covered by an inferior b-baller. Zone defenses are much different animals, and a player who beats one single defender still is unlikely to get an open shot. It would be interesting to track shooting percentages and turnover ratios since the zone defense became legal.

    US Open Tennis

Yeah, it was horrible. A couple of the calls were close, but the other two were obvious and the chair umpire just fucked them up. Serena handled it with more professionalism and class than I would have, though. I think I would've flipped off the umpire at the end of the match and then ripped her up and down in the news conference afterwards. Props to Serena for taking the high road.

    Senior Year

It was easy. We had to take 6 classes, and I guess I made it harder on myself than I needed to by opting for 3 AP courses. Still, the workload wasn't bad, and I was able to do most of my homework during my free periods in school. It was the easiest of my 4 years in high school, despite the fact that the courses were the most challenging I'd had.

Where NOT to buy a computer

Definitely make a scene. Talk loudly about how bad their service is and how shitty theit extended warranties are. (BTW, never buy those on computers, from anyone.) Randomly shout in the direction of other customers about how CompUSA is dicking you on their warranty to the tune of hundreds of dollars. If they still don't give you what you want, threaten to call the local paper with a scoop about CompUSA scamming people on warranties (have a friend you can call ready in advance to play along). If they can live with you making a scene, they certainly won't want the bad press.

Who has a fantasy football team?

Money league draft, with two keepers allowed (we can keep players up to three years). We draft an absurd number of players, so I'm not going to list all my guys, just the important ones. We draft 4 QB, 6 RB, 6 WR, 2 TE, 2 K, and 2D. With the 2 keepers, that ends up being a 20-round draft. Sigh. We start 1/2/3/1/1/1, btw. Our league website hasn't been updated, and our draft sheets got turned into the commissioner, so I'm doing this from memory. And with a holiday weekend between the draft and now, that memory is fallible. QB: Aaron Brooks. (I honestly forget who my backup is at the moment) RB: PRIEST~! (2nd overall pick; LT2 went first), Domanick Davis (kept), Tyrone Wheatley WR: Joe Horn (kept), Eric Moulds, Amani Toomer, Rod Gardner, Marty Booker TE: Jeremy Shockey K: Jay Feely, Olindo Mare D: Philly, Jacksonville

    NFL's top 100 players

Lies. LaDanian Tomlinson is the best RB in the game. The list got it right. Portis is certainly very good, and I have no doubt he'll be successful in Washington. But LT2~! is where it's at for NFL running backs.

    NFL's top 100 players

Yeah, the Ravens REPRESENT~! I can't argue with any of the choices for my home team, though I might've swapped McAlister and JAMAL~! The rest of the list does eat deeply of the man-ass in several spots, though.

Charges against Kobe to be dropped

Nope. People should act how they're going to act, and not worry if it fits in with some cookie-cutter "role" that was chiseled out ages ago. Besides, the "promiscuous woman = slut" and "woman who enjoys sex = slut" "gender roles" are *obvious* creations of chauvinistic older men who want their women domesticated, meek, and barefoot and pregnant.

Charges against Kobe to be dropped

I understand WHY it's that way. My point is that it's a bunch of patriarchal and chauvinistic bullshit.

Charges against Kobe to be dropped

Yes, THAT specific period is fair game. But so many rape cases go into the alleged victim's complete sexual history, which is flat-out wrong. Who cares that a woman has slept with 40 men in the 10 years since she lost her virginity at 15? Good for her, and it's definitely not the business of the court. I made reference to this earlier. It definitely damages her credibilty if she was out having sex again shortly after the Kobe Incident, and it paints her as a head case, neither of which are conducive to winning a court case. I'm not saying it was necessarily done in this case, but character assassination of the victim and bringing up things that are no one else's business should be excluded. A competent lawyer should be able to defend his client without attacking the other party. I think the DA and the judge were both starfuckers, and I hope they get the axe for it. You'll forgive me if I don't weep for a multimillionaire. I think Kobe will be fine when it comes to endorsements. Look at RAY~! Lewis: he faced a more serious charge, didn't have nearly as much popular sympathy behind him, and actually pled guilty to obstruction of justice, yet he rebuilt his image quite nicely in less than two years.

Buck up and pull the spoon out of your mouth. By whom? Certainly not by other men. The fact remains that a man's sexual prowess is celebrated, while a woman's is demonized. You're thinking right along those lines the whole way, it seems. Congratulations, you're a drone. Join us outside the box once in a while; you might like it better.

He practiced the Wilt Chamberlain method before getting married, by most accounts.

Charges against Kobe to be dropped

Because it's no one's business but hers. Her "lifestyle," and the lifestyle of every woman in her place, basically is reduced to how many men they've slept with. Is there some magic number of sexual encoutners that prevents a person from being raped? Are you incapable of being raped if you have sex thrice a week while single? Recent encounters, sure, because there's reasonable doubt as to who caused any injuries that might be present. And if she went and banged some dude shortly after Kobe hit it and split it, then her case and credibility are definitely damaged. But her *entire* sexual history? No, that's beyond the pale. I'm sure Kobe can scrape together the money for good attorneys... And there's the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing we go by in the court system. The prosecution must make a clear and airtight case for guilt. You're kidding, right? He inked a bajillion-dollar deal with the Lakers, and I doubt his marketability has been hurt by what's popularly seen as a frivolous charge and suit.

Ok, if a guy nailed 3 girls in the span of two days, he's be a stud and get high-fives from dudes like you and me, right? What's so different when a woman does the same thing? Why is a man a stud for going it, yet a woman is a slut? I made mention of this already.
