Random observations: 1. Ladell Betts > Trung Canidate. I think they'll be sharing time a lot, considering Spurrier's tendency to go with the hot hand. 2. The Jets' ability to always come up one or two yards short of the first down is pretty remarkable. And not in a good way. Actually, you have to give some credit to the defense there, too. Sure, the receivers should run routes that go past the sticks, but the defenders know where the first down is, too. 3. I have no idea why the Redskins took Coles out of their offensive gameplan in the second half. 4. I also have no idea why they let the clock run out like they did at the end of the first half. Up 13-7, getting the ball back with 1:15 on the clock and two time-outs, I think you HAVE to push the ball upfield and try to score. 5. Vinny still throws a decent ball, but it looked like his rust showed in a lack of timing with his receivers. EDIT: 6. Lisa Guerrero looked like a fucking HAG. I thought she was OK from her run on BDSSP, but she looked horrible last night. And she was no great shakes with the mike in her hand, either. And to answer a few other points... Curtis Martin is not washed up. The Jets are definitely on the downside of suck. Anyone who thinks a classic like "Dream On" is a song that Eminem did should be pecked repeatedly by rabid ostriches.

Back when I was the Electronics manager at Staples and Ray Lewis was going thru his legal woes, I sold Palm PDAs and a few other trinkets to him and his lawyer. Usually, his lawyer came in by himself, but I dealt with Ray, too, once or twice, and even got his autograph on one of our sales ads. The lawyer made me promise to keep the whole thing on the down-low (basically, no media and no gawkers), which I had no problem doing.

Hell fucking yes. I wouldn't even play the slots (if I'm going to gamble, I'm going to be playing poker, dammit), but the boost to the economy would have been tremendous. Considering the lottery -- which is basically a scam to get poor people to part with their money -- is given a fee pass on the no-gambling thing, I don't see why slots would have been so bad.

Is it that goddamn hard to keep poorly-veiled comments about abortion out of this discussion?

But shouldn't the Amish shun "modern technology" like paintball guns? Clearly this man was a sinner and was struck down by his vengeful god...

It's something I've seen on shirts a lot, since there's a restaurant called M.R. Ducks in Ocean City. Although hearing a few foreigners prononcing it as "Mister Ducks" has given me some chuckles.

The $99 one sounds like the best deal, then.

If his IP had resolved to anywhere not in the US, I would have left it well enough alone. But the irony of an apparent American bashing his home country while trying to act like an International Man of Mystery was too good to pass up.

But it's probably worth it. If it has more features and higher resolution, save up another month or so and buy it. Since you're doing photography work, you're going to want the best scanner you can get. Besides, dropping an extra $50 on it now means you can stave off upgrading it by at least a year or two. The 3C scanners I mentioned that we still use are every minute of seven years old, and our graphics team still has a couple of those in heavy rotation. So yeah, I'd say it's worth going with the HPs and it's worth getting the better machine. If it doesn't pick up the colors well, then it's worthless for what you want to do with it. This is a complaint I heard about Canon scanners when I still sold them, BTW, and that's been about three years. Basically, we got almost no complaints about HPs and Visioneers, and of the two, HPs were more user-friendly and probably priced a little better. Microtek was still fairly new in the store when I left, but the feedback I'd heard about them had been positive. The most recent scanners we're using here are HP 7400s, but they're probably a year old already, and I'd have no idea how much they cost.

Gah. Why am I taking part in this? Someone slit my throat now. Some of these choices will be made only because I *have* to pick someone. Hmm, Tampa Bay and Tennessee seem like popular picks. A shame I don't think either makes it to the Super Bowl, though. I'll go with the Steelers and the Rams as my two games to get to the big dance, with the Steelers then playing the role of the 2001 Patriots.

And here I thought, "Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play" was going to be the continuation of the thread title. Le sigh.

Maybe you should fake leaving the board first. Oh, wait...

I'd avoid the Canon scanners like the plague. No one I know who bought one ended up happy with them, and when I used to work electronics retail, we got more Canons returned than anything. The HP looks good, but it's $50 under your price ceiling, so they might make a model that gives you some more bang for the money you're planning on spending. We have several HP scanners at work, and even the old 3C SCSI ones still work like they were right out of the box.

I'd shoot your loud retro gear-wearing ass before you could even pull the knife.

People at work encounter this problem, and rebooting (usually a full power-down and then a cold boot) tends to solve the problem. Also, make sure your hard drive is being detected in BIOS. We run 2000 at work, so it's not really the same as XP, but I'd say only about 15-20% of cases like this have actually wound up with the hard drive being trashed.

Your IP resolves to a broadband company in Herndon, VA. Just pointing that out.

Classic Post. Nah. Too many grammatical errors.

By that logic, no. However, tasteless comments like that can subject someone to an immediate ban at a mod's discretion. There's a line that has to be drawn, since the administration has to create a forum where people will want to post. IMO, joking about faux mental illnesses is not over the line, but posting about raping someone's dead mother is.

The "shall I buy you a gun..." remark seems a little over the top, but I have no problems with the rest of it. I see the scenario as this: Rant and Mike posted a couple of jokes in the thread, then everyone who had ever taken an antidepressant theatrically overreacted. I've been online for almost ten years now, and I still fail to see why people give such weight to the words of a complete stranger on their computer screen. Since everyone else is fond of quoting the board rules around here, I'll play along: Emphasis added, because it apparently needs to be.

I drafted Miller without hesitation in the money league. A young QB playing behind a shitty offensive line needs a safety valve. Houston might have some good wide receivers, but if Carr doesn't have enough time to throw to them, then Miller and the running backs will be the beneficiaries.
