I work for the government. Enough said. Though I will say, now that the script kiddies and virus writers have decided to take a break, I've been able to return to the glorious feeling of doing next to nothing all day.

8yr old Autistic boy dies at faith healing service
Dr. Tom replied to MrRant's topic in Current Events
Because, whether you like it or not, the people who did this ARE Christians. Just like wastes of skin like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, and just like wackos who murder doctors and bomb abortion clinics. They might be fuckheaded Christians, but they're Christians nonetheless, and the fact that they are will color public perception about the whole. Public opinion paints with a broad brush, and a few bad bristles will make the whole paint job look bad. You might be able to sit there and say, "That's not my kind of Christianity," or, "my Jesus would never abide something like that," but most people just don't care. Look at Catholic priests: the first presumption people have about them now is that they're child molestors, despite the fact that most of them are good and decent men who chose a life of service. Public perception is already tainted. Christians as a whole are startig to suffer the same fate. -
You're performing a service. Of course you should charge him. He seems to have a problem paying off his debts, but that's his problem, not yours. If he really is trying to make something of his life, then give him the responsibility of paying you for his learning. As for how to help him, I'm sure there's plenty of information you could Google up about adult education in the areas of English comprehension and basic math.

You're going to see Izzard live? You lucky BASTARD~!

Actually, I think it's because the products ship over the weekends and can be guaranteed to be on the shelves by Tuesday.

For which the Jets should be eternally grateful.

Yet another I-hate-the-human-race story
Dr. Tom replied to kkktookmybabyaway's topic in Current Events
I'm with you, dude. If I'd been that guy, I'd have found the nearest blunt object and caved her fucking skull in. -
Substitute "any troll" for "Prince Paul" in the above and it becomes even more accurate. This man speaks the truth, kids, but I get the feeling that no matter how many times ignoring trolls is suggested, people are always going to to be in a footrace to have the first reply. Didn't anyone learn to ignore pests in kindergarten?

It's the hardware, as others have said. It can be fixed, and the instructions Nihtscrawler posted look to be spot-on. This is going to become a bigger problem if you don't get it fixed, and it's a problem that seems to plague original PS2s. I eventually stopped caring, sold off most of my PS2 games, and happily buy everything for the X-Box now.

The one-and-only football contest thingy thread
Dr. Tom replied to kkktookmybabyaway's topic in Sports
The RAVENS~! Tiebreaker points: 20 8/27 Chicago at New England 8/28 Detroit at Buffalo N.Y. Jets at Philadelphia Arizona at Minnesota Atlanta at Cleveland Houston at Tampa Bay Kansas City at St. Louis Miami at New Orleans N.Y. Giants at Baltimore Oakland at Dallas Tennessee at Green Bay Washington at Jacksonville 8/29 Cincinnati at Indianapolis Pittsburgh at Carolina Seattle at Denver San Francisco at San Diego As for what to call this, why not The Head-to-Head Pick 'Em Contest? -
Based on the game they just played against the Redskins, I'd bet my paycheck that Redman is the starter on opening day. He doesn't have Boller's arm strength, but he's more accurate with his throws, doesn't try to do too much, and showed some great poise on several plays Saturday. Anthony Wright was supposed to mop up, but Billick left Redman in the whole way. He's definitely the starter. If he performs like I think he can, Boller will only play this year if Redman gets hurt. Jamal Lewis is the focus of the offense, but Redman could sneak 3000 passing yards and 16 TDs under the radar pretty easily. Boller looked nervous and jittery Saturday, and while he zipped the ball in there a few times (throws Redman probably couldn't make), he doesn't have the poise to be a starter yet. In a keeper league, Boller is the better long-term call, but if you're looking for a third-stringer for this year, I'd definitely go with Redman.

8yr old Autistic boy dies at faith healing service
Dr. Tom replied to MrRant's topic in Current Events
So not only did this "church" initiate this sad process by approaching the mother, they did so for the purposes of beating the boy and eventually murdering him. Every single one of those worthless pieces of shit should be summarily executed (clutching their precious Bibles and praying for a "miracle" all the while, of course) and their farce of a church burned to the ground. -
Quiet, you, or I'll toss an axe at your skull, and celebrate my kill with a pint of mead and some MEAT ON A STICK~!
-
... As far as I know, that isn't possible.
-
Indeed there is. I'm not sure if it's available, but I'll poke around and see.

Think of how stupid the average person is. Then remember that half the people out there are stupider than that. People suck.

If the Titans are going to do anything, this has to be the year. They're WAY over the salary cap for next season, and can't support a sustained run. I don't see them reaching the level they reached last year, let alone winning it all. They have a good deal going for them, but enough questions to throw it all into doubt.

Eh, Maryland's is pretty pedestrian. Ren Faire > State Fair

Bah. I don't give two pins about an NFL Channel. If the league would fucking stop excluding 90% of the US and put Sunday Ticket on digital cable, I'd be a happy man.

Will the 03 Tigers break the 62 Met's loss record?
Dr. Tom replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Sports
There is no reason for the Tigers to fire Trammell. His experienced major league players who are worth half a damn are Bobby Higginson and Dmitri Young. After that, the team is young and unproven, particularly the pitching staff. They just don't have the talent to compete in what has become a very tough division. Firing Trammell would be idiotic. -
If you have an XP CD, it should be bootable. Boot the PC with the XP CD in your CD drive. Go into your BIOS (it will tell you to press a key, usually DEL or one of the Function keys, to enter Setup) and poke around until you see something similar to "Boot Device Priority." (What it's actually called varies based on your BIOS maker.) Set the CD to boot before the hard drive. Save the settings and reboot. You will be prompted to boot from the XP CD. Do so. It will give you the chance to format the drive before installing.

Marvin, the Sobig worm has its own SMTP client so that it can mail itself out independent of your email program. It also scans your files for email addresses instead of just using an address book. Outlook and OE are vulerable (as usual), but this worm isn't unique to them. The fixes are readily available and pcmag.com has some news on how it works and spreads. I really wish the people writing these worms (this one, Backdoor.Roxy, and the others which have shown up in the past couple weeks) would take a break. I miss the days of being able to do next to nothing at work.

Ferguson or Lelie > Randle El. Of course, if Randle El goes crazy on returns, you'd be losing the points he'd put up there, but the other two receivers are better. Lelie should start over Easy Ed, who should move into the slot and ply his trade there. I personally think your receivers are solid, but your RB are questionable. Edge needs to prove he can play at the top level again, Zero needs to prove he can do it over a whole season, and Travis Henry is allergic to hanging onto the football. I'd try to get a solid RB and a decent TE, but since only 6-8 TEs are really worth owning, I wouldn't mortgage too much to get one.

Mike, that's because we don't actively try to retain businesses and manufacturing. Sure, sweatshop workers can get paid two dollars a week, but incentive packages to a company would probably keep them stateside. And any loss in tax revenue is made up by the fact that Americans are still going to be employed, and paying taxes.
