Yes x3. I think the folder mods idea is worth considering. Just someone to close and merge threads, edit and delete posts, etc. AdminCP access would be retained by the GMods and Admins, so we have to make sure the people we're installing as GMods are dependable, level-headed, and trustworthy.

One and Only Star Wars Geekiness Thread
Dr. Tom replied to Black Lushus's topic in Television & Film
I saw the midnight showing last night, after swearing I wasn't getting duped into it a third time. This time, though, I didn't buy any tickets, but lucked into one when someone had to back out and couldn't make it. I also won a Batman Begins poster during the trivia contest the theatre held before the movie started. It's definitely the best of the prequels, but there are some fundamental flaws in it, and I don't think Lucas redeemed himself at all. It's entertaining, though, and felt more like a Star Wars movie than the first two. I'm thinking 7/10. -
The Current Events folder. It's a lot like Hitler.

I've been out of town since the middle of last week. -
Mike, maybe you could make a post in Site Feedback, saying that the new server is in place and hosting is now available. I'm presuming there are pricing plans available for the hosting?

Lex had electro-shock therapy in season 3 that supposedly removed all his memories of the previous few months, including seeing Clark get hit by (and consequently, destroy) Morgan Edge's car in the previous episode. At the end, he told Clark he remembered how important Clark's friendship was to him and hugged him, but the camera showed a brief, knowing smirk. Realistically, Lex can't know, since I don't think Lex has ever known Superman = Clark Kent in all the years of the comics.

Your political compass Economic Left/Right: 2.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.44 About the same as before, IIRC. The scores might have changed a bit, but I'm still solidly in the Friedman quadrant.

RACIST letters terrorize college students
Dr. Tom replied to kkktookmybabyaway's topic in Current Events
hay i wnet to cathlic skool four 12 yeras and im smrt Ow, that hurt. Seriously, though, sending kids to Christian schools is fine, as long as they're not wacko fundie schools. I spent 12 years in Catholic school and got a very good education. I think a lot of people in my graduating class would say the same. -
This is just another piece of anecdotal evidence that supports my theory that children should be muzzled and shackled until age 8.

This thread is amusing, in a car accident sort of way.

http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?showtopic=69249 Really, I think he's going on about absolutely nothing. I think we can live without him as a moderator: we still have a good-sized staff, and he was basically a WWE mod because he was a site writer. I don't think he needs to be a GMod anymore. Thoughts?

Before I go any further, nothing in this thread is to be discussed with anyone on the board who is not an Admin. This includes the global mods, and most certainly includes all members. If you can't adhere to that, hit the Back button on your browser now, and it'll be no harm, no foul. I'll wait. Still here? Alrighty then. So I get an IM from Dames earlier this evening. Apparently, he's getting pistol-whipped by his bills, including the need for a new car, and would like to clear up his expenses. Unfortunately, the domain and hardware expenses of a website do not necessarily fall high in the priority chain. So here's what's being discussed (and keep in mind this is only being discussed -- nothing is definite yet). Dames and Mike are figuring out how to reduce the TCO of the site to about $50 a month. That's the good news. The bad news is, someone would have to pay the bill. So I'm asking you folks, my fellow admins, if you'd be willing to bear any of the burden for it. No one will be asked to foot the whole bill; right now, we're just trying to see if paying for the site is something that can be done as a group by the staff. Please reply here with your thoughts on this, as well as whether or not you'd be willing and able to pay a portion of the monthly site expenses. No one will hate you if say you aren't. And remember, don't discuss this with ANYONE who is not an admin. Here are some relevant snippets from the AIM log: TheDames7: Well, I'll be upfront with you Tom. You've been around with me the longest. EntropyAD: That sounds ominous. TheDames7: I'm running into financial trouble. TheDames7: The LAST thing I want to do is shut down the site. EntropyAD: But reality is reality. TheDames7: Well yeah....but at the same time, its something that we all worked really hard on and I don't want that effort to just die. EntropyAD: Neither do I. TheDames7: Since I'm barely around anymore and I don't write anymore (not by choice), its made thoughts like dropping the site easier to deal with. EntropyAD: Understandable. TheDames7: ...so basically, my question is this....would you be interested in continuing forward with the site, forum, anything...with you in charge? EntropyAD: Well, the question with the site is paying for it. And I'm not going to do that. The forums, sure. TheDames7: Actually, Mike and I have been shopping around and trying to come up with ideas to lower the per month cost...which if I can do, then that's great. EntropyAD: Right. But if you need to jettison some expenses, it's also an easy thing to ditch. TheDames7: Bring it down from 118 a month (lots of server space, since I also lease out some of it) to about 50 a month or so. EntropyAD: That'd be nice. TheDames7: yeah, exactly...but I don't want to just have the site die. I'd prefer to have someone take it and run with it. TheDames7: I definitely dont want a panic or for there to be accusations of what happened the first time with SK to happen again. TheDames7: I was thinking that if I could lower the cost per month to say about 50 bucks or so, do you think that it would be possible or even plausible to have some sort of consortium made up of mods or someone to collectively pay for the site together? I know that's just asking for in fighting, but I dont know what else to do, who else to ask. EntropyAD: I can ask around, but that would require leaking this info. TheDames7: Yeah, I know...but off the top of your head, think anyone would be interested in chipping in on a monthly basis? EntropyAD: The problem is, one person would have to be ultimately accountable. And if the rest decided not to pay, then that one guy gets boned. TheDames7: Yeah...I know. I'm trying to cover all of the bases here. EntropyAD: Oh, I'm sure raising the funds would be a non-issue. TheDames7: its just that the amount of money that I'm spending on a site...its a car payment. TheDames7: and right now, I need a new car ASAP. TheDames7: and I've tried cutting out as much as I can already and this is my last resort. EntropyAD: You have to take care of your priorities. TheDames7: And at one time, the site and everyone involved was my priority. I feel almost selfish and assholish to even consider this. EntropyAD: Dude, you have a job now. You live on your own. Priorities change. I see it all the time. EntropyAD: Here's an idea. EntropyAD: I'll create an Admins Only folder on the board. And I'll make a post in there about this situation and see what the other admins want to do. TheDames7: When do you plan on doing this? EntropyAD: I can do it tonight. Or I can wait. It's up to you. TheDames7: Alright. Please make it very explicit that I don't want this info leaked outside of the Admins and I most definitely will be posting in that thread. TheDames7: ...And also, please note that it isn't a definite that I'm giving up the site, I just want to see what the options are for now. EntropyAD: Ok. I'll do it later tonight. TheDames7: Thanks Tom. I appreciate it. So there you go.

Texas Legislators vote to ban gay foster parents
Dr. Tom replied to SuperJerk's topic in Current Events
Jews not being able to hold certain jobs in Nazi Germany != gays being disallowed as foster parents in Texas. I think this law is asinine, but so is that comparison. -
So it's YOUR fault all these illegals are getting in? Get your gun and go to work, hippie.

Heh, me too. That was some funny shit. I'm kinda torn on the amnesia episode next week. I tend to dislike hackneyed superhero plots, like the hero loses his powers, the hero switches bodies with someone, etc. Despite that, I thought the series has handled each of those episodes well (though I maintain the idea of Clark "losing his powers" or getting them transferred to someone else is absurd). By that standard, I'll probably like the amnesia episode. :-/

Rubbish x2. Interesting reads, I suppose... but still rubbish.

Oooh baby. I'm about 35 minutes NE of Baltimore, but I'll probably have a couch or something if you need it. Leave the drugs in your car, though.

So far, the response among the staff to footing the bill as a unit has been quite underwhelming. Dames, I think the Paypal option may be best.

They have no use for anyone who's Black and happens to be conservative. Clarence Thomas? Dr. Rice? "Uncle Toms." If you're Black, conservative, and successful, the NAACP wants nothing to do with you. One would think an organization that is ostensibly about advancing the cause of Blacks in society would use people like Thomas and Rice as role models of a sort. Instead, they're sellouts to whitey. The NAACP wants their Blacks uneducated, young, and in the ghetto. That way, they can peddle their the-man-keeps-us-down propaganda to them and have a member for life.
