    Pictures I Like

I've never seen them play through lightning like that, it took that one final strike before they got pulled off the field. If they restart this game, anyone left deserves cookies and milk.

Wow, they really want to play tonight in Wrigley. Fans had to leave the park for a little while due to a tornado warning, but the tarp is off now. And now the game is back

He had the personality that I really like in broadcasters. He was willing to call a bad play a bad play, even when the braves were committing it. He was sarcastic and funny, and was one of my 3 favorite all time broadcasters (along with Stone and Brennamen). Even though I didn't particularly like the Braves I always enjoyed the games because of him, that has to be the ultimate compliment you can give a broadcaster.

I grew up listening to him on TBS and Harry and Steve Stone on WGN. A very sad day, the golden age of baseball on cable is dead. It's amazing how things have changed for the worse. 15 years ago everynight or day I'd have my choice between the braves on TBS, the Cubs on WGN, the Reds on the local network or 3/4 times a week a game on ESPN. I'd have 4 different games to choose from everynight just on basic cable. Now TBS has one game a week, WGN only shows like 50 cubs games, ESPN shows about 6 teams on a rotating basis and the reds blow He more then any other voice represents that 80s-90s era of baseball, it sounds like he knew it was coming: Caray was battling mounting health problems, and he reduced his broadcast schedule to home games at the start of the 2008 season. He was battling diabetes, congestive heart failure, an irregular heartbeat and reduced kidney and liver functions, he said in April 2008. "I almost died in October [2007]," Caray told an Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter at the Braves' 2008 home opener. But he was on the air that night, vowing to call as many games as he could for as long as he could do the job well. "When I'm working, I'm fine," he told the AJC. "You know intellectually that you're exhausted, but so what? Concentrate on the game. I know this: I'm not going to embarrass myself. If I can't do this, I'll be the first to know it. I've had a hell of a run, so I've got nothing to complain about. If I die tonight, I've had a great life."

Is Griffey in uni, I can't get the sox games unless they're on WGN.

Well, I really don't want to get in a pissing match over this, so this will be my last post on Griffey's Defense, but I'm listening to 700 WLW right now. They have Chris Welsh on, who has broadcast virtually all the games this year, and he is talking about how Griffey has played prevent d all year. Meaning he plays a very deep right field because he's knows he can't go back and into the gaps, and is slow on his first step so everything falls in front of him. As for me, I have never played outfield, but I played for UC for 3 years before leaving the team. I wasn't great or anything but it's easy to see when someone has a slow first step.

They have a stat that measures range and number of catches for outfielders. Dunn is right around average to above average in left this year, Griffey was near the bottom in right. Those diving catches are rare (which I don't blame him for given his age and injuries) but those are catches a good RF makes standing.

I have to reiterate the fact that I'm geeked out about this griffey trade solely because he is Ken Griffey Jr., one of my childhood heroes. I have no illusions about Griffey's defensive performance, I like the pop he'll bring to the 5 , 6, or 7 spot, and I honestly can't wait to see him in a white sox uniform. It's a mark out moment, kids. The fact that I've grown more and more disillusioned with Paul Konerko adds to the excitement because this gives an opening to have him sit for a while....Konerko/Griffey are a wash defensively, but offensively I have much more faith in Jr. Griffey has been swinging the bat pretty good since the all star break. Just last night he drilled one into the upper deck in Houston. If he gets hot he can still swing it. Prior to this streak he has had a slow bat all year, getting beat on fastballs easily, and just picking on offspeed stuff. His 600th HR was a good example of that, it came on a breaking ball, I bet 12 of his 15 HR's have come on offspeed pitches. But since the break he's been pulling fastballs again, I could seem him giving the Sox a good to great 2 months with his bat.

I just got this image of a statue of those two white trash fans running onto the field taking out the first base coach. It would be a good action shot.

LOL, Griffey in Center. You guys have no clue what you're getting. Griffey was easily the worst outfielder in Cincy, and they have Dunn in left. He is beyond horrible, his legs are shot, and is a virtual statue out there, but hey, have fun with him.

Marty Brennamen just told this story on the radio: Marty and Griffey were on an elevator in the team hotel this morning at about 6 am after flying in on the red eye from Houston. Griffey's room was on 7, Marty's was on 6. When the elevator stopped at 6 Marty went to get off but griffey stopped him and pulled him aside, and told him he had something to tell him. Griffey held out his hand, thanked Marty and told him he was always fair with him. Marty asked what this was over, Griffey said he was just traded to Chicago. At first Marty thought he was joking, but griffey showed him the message on his phone. They then held each other as the tears slowly rolled down their quivering faces.

    The Mike Levy Incident

I emailed the video to Nancy Grace's production team, writing how this form of hazing occurs in this company on a regular basis. And how they promote extreme violence without sanctions or control by government agencies. About the apparent lack of medical professionals, and how the wrestlers are afraid to speak out in fear of being blackballed. I doubt it gets any response, much less on, but if it does I will become a legend.

Today the Reds officially pulled Bronson off the market due to shitty offers. They said they aren't interested in dealing him anymore. Reds take Arroyo off the market Monday, July 28, 2008 | Print Entry Posted by Jayson Stark The Reds have informed other clubs that they are no longer interested in trading pitcher Bronson Arroyo. Only the Yankees and Rockies were known to have demonstrated even mild interest, anyway. But the Reds apparently were finding that the $24 million Arroyo has coming through 2010 was going to keep them from getting any worthwhile return. And the Reds weren't particularly motivated to eat any sizeable hunk of that salary. So Arroyo, who has been lobbying to stick around, will get to finish the season in Cincinnati. But he may not have heard the last trade rumor of his Reds career.

    100 reasons why TheSmartMarks.com

At first I thought this was going to be reasons why TSM was better then ECW Wrestlepalooza 97 and 98. I was about to lose it, trust me TSM isn't better then either of those.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

I agree, all of those types of matches can be used effectively on a card. I'm just going to be curious to see who pulls off a good card, and who just pulled in big names that don't match up well together.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

My thing is it will be very hard to pull off a card where one match features guys working a mid 60s -70s style, and the next match features a modern style. That's why when some were complaining that some old time legends weren't picked I didn't understand it. Going with a promotion that was going to be based in the 50s-70's featuring those performers would have been interesting, but mixing the time periods is questionable to me, as the style has changed drastically. There are a few exceptions, but you really don't know how performers would be able to adapt.

    All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Just a quick question, are you guys going to set up a time for your card, as some of the styles play much better in specific time periods. I mean, it's hard for me to accept a card where george hackenschimdt wrestles for 2 hours trading holds, and then steve austin has a 20 minute punch-brawl fest with Mick Foley. I know it's fantasy, but it won't make much sense. I mean, let's say your promotion has both Austin and Goldberg. You'd want to set your time as July 98 (wrestlers obviously could be from any era, like you could use Flair in the shape he was in from 85, but he would be working in July 98) right after goldberg beat Hogan and Austin was on top of his game. Then the rest of your card would have to follow suit, and have a style that would be acceptable in July 98. Otherwise it just doesn't make much sense.

    Essential Starrcade

My list is different, as I picked out matches I haven't seen. And Flair/Race and Piper/Valentine have already been featured prominently elsewhere. The NWA ERA The Brisco Brothers vs. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood--Starrcade 83 Tully Blanchard vs. Ricky Steamboat--Starrcade 84 Manny Fernandez vs. Abdullah the Butcher--starrcade 85 The Midnight Express vs. The Original Midnight Express--Starrcade 88 Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger--Starrcade 88 THE WCW ERA 1989-1994 Sting vs. The Great Muta--Starrcade 89 Doom vs. Arn Anderson & Barry Windham--Starrcade 90 The Great Muta & Barry Windham vs. Brian Pillman & 2 Cold Scorpio--Starrcade 92 Sting vs. Vader--Starrcade 92 Vader vs. Ric Flair --Starrcade 93 THE MONDAY NIGHT WAR ERA (1995-2000) "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair--Starrcade 95 Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting--Starrcade 97 Billy Kidman vs. Eddie Guerrero--Starrcade 98 Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko--Starrcade 97 Bret Hart vs. Goldberg--Starrcade 99 Those were my five picks from each era As an aside, what's with all the love for Flair/Race. That match sucked, when I first watched it on the Flair DVD I had trouble sitting all the way through it. I have no desire for it to be prominently featured on another WWE release.

Adam Dunn Fun Fact: 39% of his hits this year are home runs, just think about that for a second. Roughly 44% of his hits are singles, Adam Dunn is virtually as likely to hit a HR as a single in any given at bat.
