WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
Ed Wood Caulfield replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
What was the reason for WCW pay-per-views in 1998 being advertised as WCW/NWO (Insert PPV name here)? And why was this also used for merchandising? -
WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
Ed Wood Caulfield replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
1.) Did WCW have any idea what to do after Starrcade 1997, because it seem to me at the time that they didn't. Was WCW so busy concentrating on the buildup and the actual show, that they had no idea what to do after it was all said and done? Was the splitting of the nWo into the Wolfpac and the Black and White planned months in advance or was it on the fly? 2.) Was there any explanation as to why Dale Torborg transform from a racecar driver who appeared on WCW Worldwide, to the MVP-Most Violent Player who wore facepaint and a baseball uniform and who wrestled on Thunder, to the KISS Demon who had a feud with Vampiro? 3.) Whatever happened to the WCW Presidency angle? I remember Sting beating Ric Flair for the presidency in July 1999, being president for a week or two, and then it was dropped. 4.) I remember a Nitro in October 1999 when Macho Man Randy Savage came out with Gorgeous George dressed like a pimp from a 70s movie talking about how he was going to introduce the future of wrestling later that night. But nothing happened. Who was Savage going to introduce, and why was it dropped? 5.) Speaking of Mach, why did he disappeared after his match with Dennis Rodman at Road Wild 1999? And why did he come back on Thunder in May 2000 and interfered in the New Blood vs. Millionaire's Club battle royal, but didn't show up on Nitro and was never mention again? 6.) Why did Hogan go back to dressing up like Hollywood Hogan in 2000 during the New Blood vs. Millionaire's Club feud? 7.) I remember on the Thunder before the first Russo/Bischoff show in 2000, that Hogan was interviewed by Mike Tenay. He said something along the lines of "Billy Kidman couldn't draw a flea market." Was that a shoot? Or was that meant to a way to start the Hogan/Kidman feud? And why would Hogan feud with Kidman of all people if Hogan ended up winning the blow-off? 8.) Is it true that Vince Russo won the WCW Title once? If so, when? And why? 9.) Why did Bret Hart feud with Will Sasso of Mad TV in 1999? 10.) When did WCW stop working with Master P. and why? 11.) Why did Rey Mysterio, Juventud Guererra, and Psichosic lose their masks? And I heard that Rey's attitude changed and his match quality dropped after he lost the mask. Is this true? Was he lazy after he lost the mask? 12.) When did DJ Ran start appearing on Nitro and on the pay-per-views, when did he stop, and what was the point of it? Wrestling shows don't need DJs! Is it me, or did alot of WCW shows from 1999 and 2000 have dead crowds? It seems like the crowd never reacted to anything. -
QUARASHI--JINX (Released in April 2002) 1. Stick 'Em Up-7 2. Mr. Jinx-10 3. Baseline-9 4. Malone Lives-8 5. Tarfur-9 6. Copycat-6 7. Transparent Parents-10 8. Weirdo-8 9. Xenezines-7 10. Fuck You Puto-5 11. Dive In-7 12. Bless-8 A great album. I was shocked at how much I love this album, since it's from a white rap group from Iceland. "Mr. Jinx" is probalby the catchiest song ever. "Stick 'Em Up", "Mr. Jinx", "Baseline", "Malone Lives", "Tarfur", and "Transparent Parents" are my favorites. Just an all around awesome album, one of my all-time favorites. BEASTIE BOYS-TO THE FIVE BOROUGHS (Released in June 2004) 1. Ch-Check It Out-8 2. Right Right Now Now-7 3. 3 The Hard Way-8 4. Time To Build-6 5. Rhyme The Rhyme Well-8 6. Triple Trouble-9 7. Hey Fuck You-6 8. Oh Word?-5 9. That's It That's All-7 10. All Lifestyles-5 11. Shazam-7 12. An Open Letter To NYC-9 13. Crawlspace-8 14. The Brouhaha-6 15. We Got The-7 Another album I enjoyed alot. While I didn't like this one as much as Hello Nasty or Paul's Botique, it still is good, and I listen to this one alot also. My favorite song is "An Open Letter To NYC" with "Ch-Check It Out" a close second.

"Don't Leave Me" was that song that sounded a little like "I Ain't Mad At Ya" right? If so, then yeah, I remember that was a hit. Anyone ever hear the remix version of the Rugrats song ("Take Me There")? I never heard the original version on the radio, but the remix got played alot on the radio and on MTV. Whatever happened to Blackstreet anyway? They disappeared after the Rugrats song. Are they still together? And I wonder how much money Mase got for rapping about the Rugrats.

Da Brat? I don't think I'd even call her a D-List celebrity. Everyone in America knew who Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer was, and while I don't think everyone knows who Public Enemy is, or knows who Flava Flav is, I'm sure people reconized what he looked like (the rapper with the clock around his neck and who wore a sweatsuit and had gold teeth). Da Brat was never a big time celebrity. Infact, has she ever had a Top 40 hit? I think only rap fans know who she is. Why would they choose her?
-
Yeah, Young MC, I forgot his name. Tone Loc is another good choice too. He had a mildly sucessful career in the late 80s/early 90s with two Top 40 hits in "Funky Cold Medina" and "Wild Thing". And don't forget he was the voice of C.J. the bear in "C.J. And Jamal"!
-
It'll probalby be a rapper who had a hit or whose peak was in the 80s/early 90s if they're following the formula of the last 3 seasons (MC Hammer for Season 1, Vanilla Ice for Season 2, Flava Flav for Season 3). The only people I can think of are Biz Markie or that rapper that did "Bust A Move". Can't say I'm looking forward to Season 4 though. The only reason I watched Season 3 was because Flava Flav was in it. I thought Season 1 was okay from the little I saw of it. I enjoyed Season 2 alot, and Flava Flav carried Season 3, IMO. I doubt I will like Season 4 as much as I like the previous seasons, or even like it at all.

I've ordered: -Royal Rumble (Just because I love the Royal Rumble Match and make it a point to order the Rumble every year) -No Way Out (I wanted to see Eddie Guererro win the WWE Championship) -WrestleMania XX: Where It All Begins...Again (Because it was WrestleMania, and I always order WrestleMania no matter what) -SummerSlam (I always order SummerSlam. It's out of habit really. Plus, I wanted to see Randy Orton win the World Championship) I wanted to order Backlash to see the Triple Threat Match, but since I spent $50.00 the previous month on WM XX, then that was out of the equation. I had no interest in buying Judgment Day. None whatsoever. I wanted to order Bad Blood, but I was moving to Miami two days after the show, so because of that, my mom used all the money for the move, and nothing was left to order the pay-per-view. Had no interest in Great American Bash. And even if I did, I had no cable because I had just recently moved to Miami. Had no interest in ordering Vengeance or Unforgiven. I wanted to order No Mercy and Taboo Tuesday (Out of curiousity), but again, no money. I'll probalby order Survivor Series, but I doubt I'll order Armageddon.

The One and Only Crystal Thread~!
Ed Wood Caulfield replied to Zack Malibu's topic in Brandon Truitt
Have any of you MST3K fans checked out Film Crew website yet? It's this website where Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy write reviews mocking bad movies, and offer commentary on Hollywood actors and any other stuff that's on their mind. It's updated every once in a while (like every 2 months or so), but it's very funny. I'm looking forward to getting the Film Crew book that's coming out soon. -

Yo, Zack, what episodes are in MST3K Volume 6, and are there any extras? -
Wasn't that the segment when he uttered "Thuganomics" for the first time? I remembered he was calling himself "C-Note" also, and I believe that's when he first called himself the "Doctor Of Thuganomics". I don't remember all of what he said, but I remember laughing and loving his commentary. I remember this line though: "Don't confuse thuganomics with acting black. Gangsta rap was a surbaban fantasy gone out of control!" Cena was awesome during that segment, and I remember that both Scott Keith and RD Reynolds started liking Cena after that segment. And yeah, Cena did a great job potraying his character as a joke at first. He did a great rap at Royal Rumble 2003 (I'm like an erect penis, you can't beat me!) and I loved the one he did to Brock in the match he got injured in back in February 2003 (Duh, I'm Brock Lesnar. God gave me muscles, but forgot to give me a brain!) and then he said something about Brock's tatoo on his back actually being a picture of his mother! And I loved his rap at WrestleMania XIX when he dissed both Jay-Z and Fabolous (You're just a bad idea, like the XFL!). If Cena ever turns heel again (which I think he should), I hope he brings that character back. He did some good raps back when he was a comedy character. And the white wannabe thug who can't rap is my favorite incarnation of him.
-
Yeah, I remember the first freestyle battle. That was the first time Cena dressed in Hip-Hop clothes. I remember that Rikishi's rhymes were about how he was just a fun loving guy having a good time, while Cena trash talked him. When I first saw it, I thought both guys freestyles sucked, but I thought Cena's sucked more.
-
I enjoyed Cena back when he was considered a joke character. I mean, when they turned him into a serious character during the Brock feud I still liked him (I actually still do believe it or not), but I liked the "Wannabe White Thug who can't rap" gimmick better.

According to an interview with WWE Magazine, Cena saids the rapping gimmick was created after Stephanie McMahon heard Cena freestyle during a busride while they were doing their European tour back in 2002. Steph took it to the writers, and they decided to make a gimmick out of it since they thought he was a good rapper. Cena started rapping his promos the week after the SmackDown! Halloween Party in November 2002, and would start wrestling wearing baggy shorts and the throwback jerseys sometime in December 2002. He was considered to be a comedy character at first, and was defintley more over as a rapper then as a regular babyface (I remember he got a good pop at Royal Rumble 2003), but it wasn't until the spring/summer of 2003 that he became really over and was taken seriously. Randy Orton debuted his current haircut and current tights in early March on an episode of RAW. He joined Evolution in February of 2003, and I think it was the February 24, 2003 episode of RAW when Triple H first called the group "Evolution" as in the "Evolution of professional wrestling." The past (Flair), the present (Triple H), and the future (Orton). Their name was actually "Evilution" for two or three weeks and JR even called them "Evilution" for a few shows before calling them Evolution from then on and that became the name of the stable. (Infact, the lead singer of Motorhead saids "Evilution" in the Evolution theme song so it was their name before somebody decided to change it for some reason).

Madden 2005 Def Jam: Battle For New York NBA Live 2005 Star Wars Battleground All were played on the Xbox. I brought Madden 2005 and Def Jam: Battle For New York, and am going to get NBA Live 2005 when I can. The Slam Dunk Contest is awesome. I could play that all day long. I didn't like Star Wars Battleground too much.

How do you plan your storylines?
Ed Wood Caulfield replied to Patty O'Green's topic in Brandon Truitt
With The Mad Cappa feud, me and Cappa planned the whole thing out the day after AngleMania II in March of 2003, so that storyline was planned a whole year in advance. We had the outline down pat, and I just added more and more of my own ideas (like The Lightning Crew Gauntlet and the fake Mad Cappa segments) once it became clear that Cappa wouldn't be able to return full time. With the Colombian Heat feud, I decided to do that the week before AngleMania III, since I originally was going to just do the Cappa feud and then leave the OAOAST forever. But I was having alot of fun writing for the OAOAST and I didn't want to leave, so I decided to continue. I already know the basic outline of what I'm going to do once I come back, a plan that was made a few weeks before I left back in June. Although I'm still ironing out all the details. -
RIP He truly was one of the best, and defintley one of my favorites.

If you could watch any one match / card live
Ed Wood Caulfield replied to theintensifier's topic in General Wrestling
Card: WrestleMania X, WrestleMania X-Seven, or WrestleMania XX Match: Rock vs. Austin WrestleMania X-Seven, Bret vs. Owen WrestleMania X, or the 10 Man Tag Match at Canadian Stampede -
Yes, I do remember Chyna's multiple turns. She would even turn during one show! It got really confusing. I remember some crowds being confused by it. ::Chyna beats on Jarret:: Crowd: YEAH!!! ::Later during the SAME SHOW, Chyna helps HHH:: Crowd: Uh...BOOOOO! Good thing they finally had Chyna seperate from HHH (although there was no real reasoning behind that) so that it could be establish that she was now a face.

Movies that people say they hate... without seeing
Ed Wood Caulfield replied to a topic in Television & Film
Nope, but I bet dollars to donuts I'd have a new pick for "worst movie ever" if I saw Manos and the Hands of Fate. I've actually had the "pleasure" of seeing "Manos: The Hands Of Fate" (infact I actually own it. The MST3K episode, not the actual movie), so yeah, you would be right. Without a doubt, it's the most disgusting, brutal, horrible, terrible, awful, wretched, bad, shitty, crappy movie I have ever seen in my entire life! -
