Kornheiser went nuts last night talking about how the Cowboys have the biggest fanbase in all of American sports last night. Is that really even close to being true? I'm not saying it's not, but it definitely hasn't been my experience. Living in the northeast may make me see things differently, but even in the NFL there are a bunch of teams whose fans I hear a lot more from and seem to spread the country better, or at least travel very well. No matter where they're playing the Steelers and Packers seem to have a ton of road fans, the Eagles seem fairly well represented, and I hear a ton from Patriot fans, but I think they may just be louder.

I'm going to throw out a question for week 3 in here. Not quite sure how it happened, but in a 10 team league I loaded up at WR and landed Plaxico Burress, Anquan Boldin, and TJ Houshmanzadeh. Based on the first 2 weeks Plax and Boldin obviously start at the 2 WR spots, and I don't really have a 3rd RB to put in a WR/RB spot. So the question comes down to Housh against the Giants vs. Santana Moss against the Cardinals. Moss was a TD better than Housh week 1 and went nuts week 2. Based on performance thus far I lean towards Moss, but I'd really hate to see Housh finally get going on my bench.

Last week there was some question as to whether Cleveland's offense was that bad or if the Cowboys D was that good. I think these two prime time games have provided us with an answer.

Notable event of the day: Juan Pierre finally hit his first Dodgers HR after over 1000 at-bats spread over the last 2 seasons. Most surprising thing about it is he had a home run trot prepared. I guess he had a lot of time to think about it.

A big thank you to DeSean Jackson. My fantasy football team owes you a debt of gratitude as you unselfishly handed over your TD to Brian Westbrook.
-
Jackson catches a 60-some yard TD, but it appears that he just threw the ball before he crossed the goal line. Luckily for him the play was ruled a TD and I think the worst that can happen is they get the ball somewhere inside the 5 where he threw the ball.

Things sure went down hill in a hurry for Romo.

For what it's worth, when Sveum was managing the Altoona Curve he was actually considered a pretty good manager with a possible major league future. He's a few years removed from that though, and nothing's come up.

Big INT by Samuel followed by a PI to the 1. Philadelphia with a shot to jump right back in.

Scott Kazmir 7 ER through 3+ and responsible for 2 more runners in scoring position with nobody out. Probably not the best day to have your worst outing of the year.

Yes. It should be tremendous. I haven't picked up the season 3 DVDs yet, but saw all the episodes when they aired and watched them again online. Is there anything cool I'm missing out on on the DVDs? Season 1 and 2 just had something like 2 commentary tracks and very little else. -
Not that they were ever officially in, but the door's basically closed on St. Louis after they got swept by the Pirates. Combined with Houston's 4 game sweep of Pittsburgh things have really shifted between the two teams. Who said the Pirates never play meaningful games in September?

No sympathy for the Chargers from me. They got me eliminated from a knockout pool in week 1. I was sure I was winning the cash this year.

My 1:00 CBS game is the completely uninteresting Tennessee-Cincinnati matchup. I hate "divisional rivals".

They've decided the Cubs-Astros game is happening tomorrow with another Monday, both taking place in.... Milwaukee. Interesting choice. The third game is going to be played after the season ends if necessary. It most likely only ends up being necessary for the Astros, so I'm sure there will be quite a Cubs lineup assembled for that day.

Huge swing in events in the AL East in the last hour. Entering the day the Rays had a 2 game lead on Boston, Tampa won their first game and Boston lost pushing it to 3. In their second games Tampa led 4-2 in the 7th, but blew the lead, and Boston trailed 5-4 in the 8th, make the day a push rather than the Rays picking up 2 games.

The reason for the report may be that the Texans' Reliant Stadium was damaged enough that the game Monday night is most likely not going to be played. I think the retractable roof is what was damaged, and Minute Maid Park has a similar design.

I bought what I think is the original version they came out with. It came with a bacon chalupa of some sort that I thought was pretty good. I haven't returned since though.

Evan Longoria is starting at 3rd and batting 5th today for the Rays. This will be his first game in over a month. Also:

I guess the NFL isn't going to have to try very hard to prevent Chad Johnson from using the name "Ocho Cinco" on his jerseys. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_...?urn=nfl,106605 Apparently part of the deal with Reebok says that he would have to buy out all of their remaining C. Johnson jerseys. Apparently there are about 100,000 jerseys out there and he'd have to buy them out at $48 a piece. Don't see that happening.

Not if Troy Percival has anything to say about it.

Not a huge surprise when you consider they're through 13 with only 1 run in, but the top 6 spots in the Red Sox lineup are a combined 2 for 28 with the 2 hits both coming from Pedroia. That includes 0-6s from both Ellsbury and Bay.

The Astros win today makes 13 of 14 and 15 of 18. Odds are it's a little too late for them, but it's still a very impressive run. In other hot streak news the Blue Jays winning streak was stopped at 10, but they almost came back from down 5-0 and had the tying run at 3rd in the 9th.

Is Jones coming off an injury or has Joe Torre actually managed to avoid using him for an entire month before tonight?

It looks like the Brewers might be planning to not take advantage of the Cubs loss once again. I don't think they want to win the division. The Reds have loaded the bases with one out in the 8th.
