That's Sterling Hayden, and it's quite the hilarious performance indeed. Hell, the whole movie is full of them, be it from Peter Sellers, George C Scott or whomever.

A great, very disturbing movie with excellent use of sound and a very impressive use of grainy, almost claustophobic visuals. The locations are perfectly chosen and they add a lot to the film, as well as the casting and the art direction. The whole thing just felt so strangely authentic for some reason, which is to the filmmakers' credit.

Since I can't quite remember which the last five matches I watched were, the three last will have to do: Stan Hansen vs Vader, the match where Hanses hit Vader so hard that his eye popped out of its socket. Good match, I thought, on first viewing. Jumbo Tsuruta and Genichiro Tenryu vs Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody, early 80s All Japan. Pretty fun. Vader vs Sting, strap match from SuperBrawl III (?). Most excellent. And that Austin vs Steamboat match MillenniumMan mentioned was my favourite match back when it happened. I haven't watched it in a good seven or eight years though.

Thumbs up for the mention of Quick Change, I love that movie. There are loads of films out there that would probably qualify for my list. I don't know if The Outlaw Josey Wales would qualify for most people, but I think it mostly gets rather overlooked, and personally I would rate it among the great post Leone/Peckinpah westerns. I could probably think of more Eastwood movies that I'd consider underrated. John Boorman's Point Blank usually gets some recognition, but enough, in my book. For a more recent film, I'd probably go with Wonder Boys. Wonderful movie that gets overlooked most of the time. I don't have much time at the moment, so I'll have to return later.

Deacon's Movie Analysis of the Week
ArkhamGlobe replied to WrestlingDeacon's topic in Television & Film
Very interesting analysis, well written and well thought out. I can't really make any comments on the film since it's been so long since I've seen it, so long in fact that I can hardly remember what I thought about it. The things I can remember the best about it was that I thought it had fabulously lit cinematography and Newmans performance, and this nice, gritty overall mood, though I also remember having some problems with it, what they were I can't quite remember though. Anyway, good job, I am hope to see more of these. -
I'll second the claims of Philip Glass' brilliance.

I love late 60s psychedelia, various kinds of free form jazz and various kinds of modernist music. As for John Cage, we got to study his work briefly when I studied ethnomusicology at the university. Definitely an odd fellow, but rather interesting. What I remember most is some music he wrote that was dictated completely by chance (I don't remember quite how that worked, I'd have to look through my notes), various Varése-inspired (souned like it, atleast) sound collages, and another piece called 5 and something else I can't quite remember. What it basically consisted of was the musician would come out with his notes. Well, notes and notes, it was just instructions on when to turn the page, which would go on for five plus minutes, with the music being the sound of the papers being turned, and various sounds and noises from the audience. And that organ playing for six centuries is fucking brilliant. Kind of like a MUCH more extreme version of Terry Riley's "In C".

Batman SE: DVD rumor, so take it as you may...
ArkhamGlobe replied to Downhome's topic in Television & Film
Zsasz, that's a very intriguing reading of Batman Returns, and one I hadn't really thought about. I've always thought it to be a rather underrated film, due to the fact that I could detect some subtext in it, but I always interpreted it as being a film about loneliness and personal rejection in many ways and on many levels. Granted, it's been years since I've last seen the film, but your analysis has made me want to rewatch it. I'll probably do that in the next couple of days. -

AJ Styles and Johnny Smith are fucking miracle workers in this game. Not once but twice have they carried the Road Warriors to near 80% match quality. Hopefully Smith doesn't stay with All Japan when they announce their new touring schedule, because him and Styles will be getting a big push if I can sign him under a written contract.
