These are the films in the collection: The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser Even Dwarfs Started Small Lessons of Darkness Fata Morgana Heart of Glass Little Dieter Needs to Fly Stroszek As for whether this is a good place to start, I don't really know as I've only seen Heart of Glass. I love Heart of Glass, but it's not a good place to start as it's so stylistically extreme (all but one of the actors perform under hypnosis). There is, however, another boxset called the Herzog/Kinski collection which is I would consider a good place to start, specifically since it contains the films Aguirre - Wrath of God (one of my favourite films) and Fitzcarraldo, which are the two films I would recommend the most to Herzog beginners, as they're highly representative of his style of filmmaking but more accessible than, say, Heart of Glass.

Sign O the Times is very awesome indeed. Anyway, today I found a copy of The Beatles' Please Please Me on vinyl rather cheaply. Also, the following stuff arrived in my mailbox: Tom Waits - Mule Variations Charlie Mingus - Mingus Ah Um Faust - Faust IV

Today I picked up a double disc live album with Can. It was a bit pricey, but since it features some stuff that's apparently never previously released I figured it was worth it. I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, but I'm fairly psyched.

Last time you punched somebody: No clue, must have been a long time ago. Last time you ate meat: Yesterday. Last time you got arrested: Never have. Last time you wore a suit: My grandfathers funeral a few years ago. Last country you visited: Finland, to visit a nuclear power plant near the Russian border as part of a class trip about 8 years back. Last injury you suffered: Burned my finger on a hot plate of soup yesterday. Perhaps not a real injury but it hurt like a motherfucker. Last family outing: A party for when an uncle and aunt of my retired a few months ago. Last item you put on your credit card: I only use debit, but I think it was an album I ordered yesterday. Last beer you drank: Murphy's Irish Red. Last movie you watched in full: Mystery Train. Last time you lied: Probably yesterday, I can't remember. Last meal you ate: Spaghetti bolognese. Last time you laughed: Watching Mystery Train probably. Last video game you played: KGB. Last album you listened to: Prince - Musicology Last time you said 'I'm sorry': No clue. Last sport you watched: K-1 on EuroSport, I believe. Last time you said 'This is the last time': Probably sometime when I'm getting my ass kicked repeatedly at a video game, you'll hear me going: "This is the last time I'm trying this!", only I never fulfill my promise and I'll keep playing till I either complete the task or go insane with rage.

Over the last couple of days I've picked up: Taxi Driver Convoy Cross of Iron Three Colours - White Ride in the Whirlwind Also, Lost in Translation should arrive in my mailbox any day now, as should a VHS tape of The Spider's Stratagem. I also ordered some DVDs from Korea; a collection of early shorts by people like Rivette, Godard, Resnais etc. as well as Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.

It's a late new wave (or post new wave, depending on perspective) movie by Jacques Rivette and it's one of the few viewing experiences I've had when after having watched the film it felt like I'd never seen anything like it before and it instantly turned me into a rabid Jacques Rivette fanboy. It's incredibly layered and stimulating on an intellectual level, yet it's also surprisingly funny (in many ways the film is actually a comedy). I can't recommend it enough (though some may find the rather ample running time off-putting). The gorgeous cinematography edition: 1. Sunrise 2. The Last Tango in Paris 3. Once Upon a Time in the West 4. Heart of Glass 5. Contempt

Pretty much since I first saw Celine and Julie. Aguirre is now a floater that always makes my top ten but places anywhere between 4 and 10. Anyway, back to the topic, the Ingmar Bergman edition: 1. Persona 2. Wild Strawberries 3. Winter Light 4. The Silence 5. Cries and Whispers
-
The Howard Hawks edition: 1. Rio Bravo 2. To Have and Have Not 3. His Girl Friday 4. The Big Sleep 5. Bringing Up Baby I could keep going with random top fives all night, but I'll try and restrain myself.

Favorite Shakespeare productions or whatever
ArkhamGlobe replied to Angel_Grace_Blue's topic in Television & Film
Kurosawa is the king of cinematic Shakespeare treatments. Both Throne of Blood (MacBeth) and Ran (King Lear) are marvellous films in their own right and should be seen by all serious film buffs. -
1. Pierrot le fou 2. Dr Strangelove 3. Celine and Julie Go Boating 4. Blue Velvet 5. Sherlock Jr The first three are pretty much fixed, but the rest vary frequently.

What beverage are you drinking right now?
ArkhamGlobe replied to AboveAverage484's topic in General Chat
A kind of multivitamin drink, that's actually quite good. -
I decided to rewatch Lost Highway for the first time in several years. Man, I had almost forgotten just how awesome this film is. The first 40 minutes are quite possibly the best in Lynch's entire oeuvre.
