    Making the SWF myspace page

A Wikipedia entry would get shut down in a second, but we already have an entry on another wiki that I keep meaning to edit in order to 'wikify' it some, but I haven't had the time. Edit. In the meantime I've added a convenient infobox in the header which seems to be the norm there.

The only board dream I've had was one where Agent was hunting me for sport like in The Most Dangerous Game.

The "Toxxic's Plan To Save The Fed" Poll

"We should advertise on MySpace but keep the fed here" At least until we know what MySpace's capabilities for supporting a fed are.

    OAO Anime/Manga Thread

The problem that most fans have with it isn't actually the ending but the fact that if they were gonna base this one solely on the manga, then they never should've pulled out a storyline that isn't within the manga. The consistancy that they didn't deliver is what most fans are pissed with about the series. And a lot of people believe it should've stopped right at the point of the test, since they could've gaged for a sequel and would've gotten favorable results. All it really boils down to is bitching regardless. There are rarely perfect manga-to-anime translations and no blurb or article regarding the desire to base a series solely on a manga should ever be trusted. In the end I'm of the opinion that, regardless of anything being filler, folks should get over it and criticize it fairly for what it is. The poor attempts at visuals offended me more than anything else, but maybe I don't mind everything else since all the fervor had already died down, so I was prepared going in. But believe me, I still don't think it had much place in the series since one or two episodes there were such downers in contrast to everything else. Anyway, as much as I want more series to adopt the 'stop every 13 eps, pick up production later, especially if the manga needs time to catch up' model, the exams aren't much of a high point to go out on. But since they went past that and the Kyoto arc was so close to the end, if they would have done it proper and just closed the 24/26 episodes with that I doubt anyone would have complained. You could kind of see something like this coming with Suzaku. Eh. I hate the prick. In fact, I think this makes me dislike him even more. That intro was a hell of a way to start although I don't think the Kyuubi stuff was necessary. There could be some confusion but it was also a nice hook to draw people in and get them to keep watching coming off the stink of the fillers. I liked it altogether. Yes, there's also the Sasuke consideration. Not including the cameo in 202, until the point where this arc comes up plus the fillers from before, it would have been a long, long time before he showed up.

My concern with shows were message length and the already restrictive borders that could make them annoying to read, but there's everything Rando mentioned too. Besides that there's no reason not to have the archives here and keep our ties with TSM just in case. I still think there's a place for a site in all this, so long as it's, again, not just another place to post our stats and we don't let it slip once again, keeping it more as an extra and compliment to the SWF.

    State of the SWF, 2007

About MySpace, it could work really well as the communications base of the fed, where board promos and general interaction can be posted as part of the group forum, while announcements, cards and results can be posted as part of bulletins, and optional character profiles sound like they can work. If I'm not mistaken we already have an SWF group set up already anyway. The problem is moving 'everything' because, as Judge said, shows would be problematic, as would customization and clutter. If we had a site (and I hate to keep bringing it up), it would be easy enough to post shows there and link to them in the results, but as it is, it wouldn't be a problem continuing to post shows here with no obligation to register and linking to them on MySpace, right? And we wouldn't have to drop our association with TSM. Though that, too, brings up the synchronization problem we had when the site was running (and by proxy, X-Net) where we had to keep our attention on both and eventually let one drop. Anyway, it's simple enough to start off on MySpace by working on the profile and getting the word out, directing people to the group first where maybe we post a simplified FAQ and board link, then if there's enough response, moving more functions there.

    State of the SWF, 2007

We exhausted our resources here a long time ago. In 2004 and 2005 you could see the writing on the wall as far as that was concerned. The problem with moving house is where to go, especially with no online presence other than at TSM, no foothold in the fed community, few of us posting anywhere else, or at all, for that matter. All the attempts at networking and inter-fedding, the site (Johnny), spreading the word on other sites as Johnny is proposing, all of it was designed to hopefully prevent this and possibly make a move off the boards, but unfortunately nothing worked out. All we really need to consider for a move is the environment; could a place support us, but it's all easier said than done. In the first place, I'm not even sure anyone wants to do so since it would be a huge undertaking with no guaranteed return. To be honest, we were lucky we stumbled onto TSM during the spur of the moment as we were about to be booted off IGN. It was popular, there were the existing Smarks posters with additional interest to come due to the switch and no fed to speak of. It was at just the right time. If not for confusing a Smarks for an IGN writer we likely would have been dead already. If we were to move to a similar board, we don't know if they could sustain us, be interested or if, like TSM, the interest would wane and we would be talking about this again in a year or two... if this hypothetical board even happened to survive that long, which is no guarantee. If we were to move to a board with more members and a larger fedding presence (for example, prowrestling.com, I think it was), we face the same problems. Would people there even be interested considering the different nature of the SWF and other feds? Like the situation we're in now, who's to say we wouldn't move only to find out resources there are being spread too thin as it is or that no one is interested in writing matches either? Realistically it would be a lateral move. At worst, it would probably only speed things up. A year or two ago in the midst of our advertising rush phase we could've possibly pulled it off, but not now. Although it's only worked so well before, the only realistic thing to do is to start advertising everywhere we can once again and try to appeal to those who have been in the fed before (and probably have no interest in wrestling anymore, but we'll just forget that), and try to make as much of the one show a week format as we can, along with pushing the same old SWF mantra to prospective writers. It would take a lot of work starting right now and on through Genesis to keep us going whether it's here, somewhere else, with or without Tom and everyone formerly on staff who have kept us going this far. There's no doubt that people would be writing and willing to be a part past that. But I just don't know how feasible any option would be for continuing on - in good health - to where we wouldn't need to be reminiscing about better days, lamenting things as they are now and talking about this again in a year. There's really only so many times you can say, 'It could be worse,' until reality comes along.

No matter what happens from here on it looks like I made the right choice in coming back so I could take part. I know I shouldn't but I can't help but feel partly responsible due to being around for so long yet contributing so little and being one of the chief offenders. Ideally the fed could find a way to continue but something like this was inevitable and if it has to end I would rather it be this way.

You can count Michelle Ruff, Wendee Lee, and Crispin Freeman too. That entire group is everywhere but I'll be damned if it isn't as close to an all-star cast as you're ever gonna get on one production. It makes me feel a little better about the dub but hopefully Stephanie Sheh doesn't play Mikuru like she does Orihime in Bleach.

The Haruhi dub cast has been announced. And after having finally watched the original Negima, it was okay. Yeah, the art and shortened Kyoto arc sucked, but if it wasn't Negima, the much despised final storyline wouldn't have been that bad. It was pretty good, in fact. It's not like Asuna stayed dead anyway, so what's with all the bitching from the fanbase. I don't get it. Still, I'd rather have decent Kyoto and School Festival adaptations than all this Black Rose Baron and Star Crystal nonsense in Negima!?... not that this new series isn't already a lot better than the first.

I would honestly put Naruto up against any other for best dub. On the other hand, Bleach has been disappointing, but I guess it took to the point they are now for Naruto to start coming together, so we'll see. Tokyo Majin just started. They're up to two in Japan with episode one subbed by Shinsen. I don't know if any others will be picking it up.

    OAO Anime/Manga Thread

There's been nothing on a Haruhi street date or promotion at asosbrigade.com, bandai-ent.com, animenewsnetwork, etc. I think the earliest DVDs could be released would be April or May and even that's wishful thinking. It looks like the extended dance clip is from the Japanese DVD 7 release. I haven't seen the bumps but it's already been confirmed and there hasn't been anything new announced or scheduled otherwise, so that's likely it. Ditto. There were some missteps and points where it dragged on, but it fit in well and was good otherwise. I wonder if Koga (the mohawk guy) could possibly show up later on in the manga, and as well, Ririn, Cloud, and Nova have been retained in the anime. Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou. Featuring graphically intense violence and no shortage of blood, guts, and spiritually inspired elements here and there, not to mention zombies. Z-O-M-B-I-E-S! A little shonen here and there with a mismatched cast of fighters who happen to be schoolmates banding together, but it could be a winner as long as it keeps up the quality.

People aren't necessarily referring to stuff like the XFL or WWF NY but things like foreign business, DVD sales, 24/7, etc., and yes, their movie arm since their films are made so cheaply that they can't do anything but break even, which is still a gain.
