I don't know what WA's actually state sales tax is, I think it's like 6.5%. It's just all the cities and counties have their own that ups it so high. For the longest time I just thought the entire state's tax was 8.1%, until I drove to seattle and it changed seemingly at every store I went to. It does differ slightly from county to county and such but it ends up being more or less 9%

I'm sure there are more than just the wealthy claiming those deductions. Luckily WA has no income tax. Just a lovely ~9% sales tax.
