I generally am always competitive. 1st and 2nd season usually suck and the teams that give me problems are teams like Miami who can always recruit well. Play as a team from a state without great recruiting year after year (CA, FL, Mid-West) like Maine or something like that where it is hard to recruit good players for awhile until your prestige is good.

If you win the conference you'll probably get a bowl game. You can increase your strength of schedule by adding a couple non-conference games maybe against like the #20-25 ranked teams. You may get pasted or you may win one and that will help for next season.

I think I may move from Maine and take over Eastern Washington. THAT would be a bitch.

Western Athletic Conference I believe. Montana and teams like that are in there.

I would say switch to Run and Gun and see how that works. There are some good run plays and that will allow you use the play action. The game WILL catch on to you passing all the time and drop the LB into zone coverage or blitz the ever loving shit out of you.

I just go by yardage. I will run on first down and see where that takes me and depending on yards will either throw or run.

I haven't experienced that too much. I look at the defense at the line up. Only time I see that by myself or the CPU is when you are playing zone coverage and you have the CB, FS/SS, and at least one LB on the play. Just don't throw when the D goes into zone defense.

You'll probably get whooped as Troy State as well. You have to accept that the first season is probably going to suck until you get some recruits in.
