It didn't matter what he said; that she was happy—genuinely, truly happy—for him saying it is what's important. Just like what Bill Murray whispered into Scarlett Johansson's ear at the end of Lost in Translation was irrelevant. That moment they shared transcended words. -

My AC works now. Movie watched in celebration: Oldboy. Good, if a little goofy. -
"Hello, my name is The Czech Republic."

The Czech Republic might want to rethink his stance. -
Same happened with me and 'My Favourite Dress'. The one other guy there who knew what it was clearly wanted to fuck me as well, which was awkward. Also, as Edwin named 'Left of the Dial', am I the only one who prefers 'Little Mascara'? From that album, I'll take "Hold My Life," "Bastards of Young" and "Here Comes a Regular" before either of those, but it's all good, so whatever. "I Will Dare" will always be my favorite 'mats song, though,

Whenever I think of more songs, I just go back and edit them into my original post. So, you know, it doesn't seem like I'm adding to a dead thread.

Mole-bashing is so 2003.

Edwin, I was at an indie nightclub the other night and they played Ride's "Vapour Trail." I got really excited, even though the song cleared a good portion of the dancefloor.

Leena's a woman, so of course she can't understand simple logic. -
"Sleeping Aides & Razorblades" is a good song, but I still do not care anymore about this band now than I did three years ago.

Who is the defining artist of this generation?
Giuseppe Zangara replied to UZI Suicide's topic in Music
Radiohead. And you guys know I'm not a fanboy. However, their next album needs to be a little more substantial than HTTT if they want to continue to be this generation's Pink Floyd (not that I'm saying that that's their goal, but you know). -

I'm sure I don't have much in common with the people you know. -

I am known for my fun-loving and fondness for lo-fi. So suck it. -

First floor. An update: the AC isn't getting fixed until tomorrow. Tonight, in these sweaty confines, I watched A History of Violence. I enjoyed it, especially because I only knew very little about the film beforehand... SPOILER because, when Tom Stall revealed he really was Joey Cusack, I was pleasantly surprised. I was thinking the film might go in that direction prior to the scene, but I wasn't sure. I would've been more sure had I bothered reading anything about the film before watching it, as, after watching the movie, every review I read blabbed the twist. END SPOILER Good on William Hurt, by the way. He fucking owned the one scene he was in. The Oscar nod was deserved. -
"The Loving." Even though it's guilty of having a guitar solo that plays the melody note-for-note, which has long been a peeve of mine. Also, if you can ignore the hokey lyrics, "The Mayor of Simpleton" is nice, but then I'm a sucker for Byrds-esque jangle. Those are the two I'd be like 'oh, okay then, Andy, if you really must...' for. Agreed on the note-for-note gripe, but man, when it works. Roxy Music knew how to do it almost perfectly. Roxy Music didn't do it that much, did they? I'm having trouble thinking of any of their songs that have that kind of solo. And ha to your triple post.

After a period of indifference, I'm back to disliking "You Can't Always Get What You Want." Of course, the Stones have since done far worse, but that one is the sole sticking point during their golden era.

My threads and their titles work on multiple levels. -
Let's talk about Secret Machines in this thread. Most unrealized potential of any band to come out within the last five years, I think. They manage to get it right now and then—"First Wave Intact" and "Nowhere Again" from the first album, Now Here is Nowhere; "Lightning Blue Eyes" from the second album, Ten Silver Drops—but I expect a little more punch to a band that's a space/kraut/arena rock hybrid. Since they're pretty good live, I'd chalk it up to them not being suited for the studio—though, even on stage, their material has a heavily orchestrated feel that normally comes straight out of the studio—but I think they need the right producer. They should give Dave Fridmann a call.

I was watching some amateur porn, recently. Like, genuine amateur porn. Poorly framed, shakey cameras, etc. This one dude was having obvious trouble maintaining an erection. I cringed in sympathy. Porn, now, would be ideal. Except it's too hot to jerk off. -
