    Albums released in 2006.

There were a couple of good songs at the end, too.

Would being in a black metal band score me chicks? Does corpse paint make you more attractive to the opposite sex?

Songs That Have Never Been Done Right...

"Hallelujah" Leonard Cohen's original was pure, unadulterated, cringe-inducing gospel twaddle. Jeff Buckley's take was a definite improvement, but is marred by the histrionics that usually sank his own work. John Cale came closest to nailing it, but he's just a little too cold, aloof. That's almost always a part of Cale's charm, but I think the song can be done that falls somewhere between the respective recordings of Cale and Buckley. It's a very emotional tune that could benefit from a performance by someone with a little more tact (unlike Buckley) and little more blood (unlike Cale). Cohen himself could've done it, but I'm thinking the Cohen of the 70s. He just didn't get it in 1985.

I've never been to a dentist. The only cavity I've had in my life was on a loose tooth.

gtd is right about "Across the Universe." Of the Beatles/Fiona/Rufus trio, I like the performance on Fiona's the most, but her voice is just awful on it. She isn't that bad of a singer, but her off-key moaning on that particular song is the worst.

It was Nick Cave, which makes it better.

THE BIGGEST FUCKING DORK ON THE BOARD

Hey, you're right! I actually forgot all about looking into them, but my recent spins of Third Reich and Roll re-piqued my interest. Huh. The Residents and Can are nothing alike, if that's what you're thinking/hoping.

My Flaming Lips fandom was once such that I never would've considered listening to anything new prior to the day of its release. Now, here I am. Track four isn't much better than the one that preceeded it. Sigh. Even if AWWTM continues at this pace, I'll still listen to it like ten times hoping for it to click. The Flaming Lips was one of the first bands I ever heavily got into; cutting the cord is difficult. Oh hey, track five is more of the same.

Three tracks into the new Flaming Lips, At War with the Mystics. I really liked the the first two songs—the second one, "Free Radicals," sounds like Prince!—but track three feels like more middling, MOR Yoshimi material. More to come.

Ege Bamyasi and Future Days are both arguably better. The stopgap Soundtracks is worth checking out if only for "Mother Sky," which is the best of their epic jams. Tago Mago loses me during the two lengthy musique concrete tracks; I wouldn't do away with either one, entirely—I love the percussion breakdown at the end of "Aumgn"—but each could've been much shorter. The rest of the album is superb. I remember telling Gene about Can awhile ago and he seemed interested, but I don't think he ever followed through.

Yeah, that pretty much sums things up. Hey, is Soon Over Babaluma any good? It won't be the same without Damo Suzuki I never ventured further than Future Days, so I dunno. It's supposed to be, though. Have you ever checked out Monster Movie? Malcom Mooney's voice is grating at times, but I love the crunchy, raw rock sound on that record.

The idea of wildpegasus is a lot funnier than the actual wildpegasus.
