The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, opening for the Blood Brothers Surprisingly dry, anemic spaz act that were only made truly terrible by the ill-advised rock star posing of the band's frontman. He did all tricks that were shocking when Iggy Pop first did them and boring by the time Marilyn Manson came around: fellating the mic, humping the mic stand, treating the mic stand as a surrogate penis—stroking it in what I guess was supposed to be onastic glory, etc. All of which would be tolerable—fine, even—if the music was even slightly dangerous or sexy. It wasn't. On the brightside, the bulk of the crowd saw right through it, too; most of the people at the venue stood with their arms crossed as the band played, with what little applause that fell between songs being a polite conceit to the expected audience behavior at live shows.

You're not missing anything. All we ever talk about is baseball and masturbating.

Matt Young's friends look almost as awful as he does.

Matt Young continues to be the worst.

Now stuck in my head is "I Know the Pattern," by the Thermals. They're an insanely good live band, but I've never been too keen on their studio output.

The verses are nice, but there isn't enough to their performance to make up for the gimmickiness of covering this song. (For what it's worth, I didn't much care for "We'll Meet Again" from Mr. Tambourine Man, either.) -
I have a Coldplay song stuck in my head. I don't believe that's happened since the heyday of "Yellow." I can't say I missed the feeling.

The new layout of the board ruins the effect I was going for with this thread's title. -
I'm thinking of holding off on picking up the season three box until Christmas, though I just read that both seasons four and five will be out by then. I'm gonna start netflixing four after I get through three, because, by many accounts, the show starts getting a little spotty. I already know Rory and Dean get back together at some point, which doesn't strike me as a good idea, creatively speaking.

Actually, I like Turn3x just fine, but I also like being a contrarian. -

Haha, the Bible is so stupid. -

Yeah, I like this. Tusk has its moments, but that's about it as far as me and Fleetwood Mac go.

Mole never took himself too seriously, which is a big reason why I never thought he was as bad as so many claimed. Matt Young, on the other hand, is the Worst. -

Jingus thought that picture of Jude Law was actually me. Whatta dumb dummy. -
Dean's heart is in the right place, but he's sort of an oaf, and too controlling. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Definitely. I was never able to buy Rory's attraction to him; they had so little in common. By the way, I hated Jess when he first appeared. He was all third-rate James Dean, with no personality of his own; fortunately, the show did a good job of fleshing out his character as the season progressed.
-
Yesterday, I watched the finale from season two of Gilmore Girls. I hope Rory ends up leaving Dean for Jess, because Dean is like the blandest dude.

Still waiting for you to prove she's hot, Matt Young. In that second picture, she looks like Eric Stoltz in Mask.

Matt Young pretends he has standards.

"Eight Miles High" was a better song, anyway. -
I saw him lurking there after I made that thread but he still didn't post. I hate him so much.

Nancy Sinatra's contributions to music wouldn't be remembered today were it not for Lee Hazlewood. "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"—which he wrote—was a pop song, sure, but that guy had much more on his mind than appealing to the radio crowd. Not that I had anywhere to go with the above, but Milky mentioned the Sinatra duaghter, which got me thinking of Hazlewood, which, in turn, got me thinking of "Some Velvet Morning," which is such an awesome song.

Johnsosom? Anyway, little-to-none of what you mentioned goes beyond what I talked about in my last post. And Johnson didn't even invent the blues! (Which isn't to discredit what he did do for music.)

Stones, Beatles, Dylan, early hard rock/metal bands (Led Zep, Black Sabbath, etc.)...even when you take into consideration all the artists that have since taken cues from them, where can you claim the blues has strong presence on music? Yeah, it helped birth rock, but very little of the people/bands that took something from the aforementioned canonical acts kept the blues in their sound. I should've assumed you were being subjective. So I won't argue with you there.
