I was asked what the best bands that performed at this year's Reading Festival, and, after looking up who played (I didn't know prior to today), those were the only two I had any strong feelings for. And stop with the Joy Division. Paul Banks' voice bares a slight resemblance to Ian Curtis'. It ends there; people who say otherwise are merely using lazy criticism. However, if you insist on comparing Interpol to any other band, you're better off mentioning early U2. Of course, most indie kids won't admit to liking anything influenced by them--Bono's increasing dorkiness of the last decade hasn't helped--but the similarites are there.

It's a tie between Blur and Interpol. The latter's Turn On the Bright Lights is better than anything the former has done in years, but still, it's their only album to date. Blur's last three albums had their share of enjoyable--great, even--moments, but I'm not particularly high on them. However, as long as Albarn and Co. can still crank out a wonderful tune like "Out of Time," I'll keep following them. All that said, there sure were a lot of shitty bands playing.
