I've had a headache for the past three days; I haven't had any caffeine in four.

I've been in a grouchy mood lately (I've taken to giving up caffeine PLUS I've been having women troubles) so it's manifesting itself here. That said, none of those threads need to be pinned. Gene's thread served its purpose for awhile, but that's long since passed; the "smarkipedia" (ohmygod I actually typed it) thread is arguable, though I'm not the one to take up the pro- side. As Czech already said, any remaining thread, if popular enough, will remain near the top. Plus, I don't like how it ruins the front page's feng shui.

She continues to be as mild and pleasant as she was on her first album. That's isn't a bad thing, but, also like her first album, nothing here sticks. It's fine background music and little more than that.

About 130 pages into this. Very spotty in parts—the detective story cliches are grating, though I suppose Chabon's previous book, the novella The Final Solution, should have prepared me for this (even still, I was hoping he'd gotten the genre fixation out of his system with that particular exercise; I guess not)—but there's enough good stuff here, including Chabon's graceful prose and fine wit, to keep me reading. A bit of letdown, though, considering this is his first "proper" (i.e. non-short story/mystery novella/children's book) follow-up to the great The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, published seven years earlier.

Alfonso Ribeiro was a comic genius.

What should he have done? Catch a bus to your town and beat you up?

Sacha Baron Cohen to Play Freddie Mercury?
Giuseppe Zangara replied to haVoc's topic in Television & Film
Something I read once said that Cohen has the potential to be this generation's Peter Sellers, which I can see. The guy can immerse himself into a character the way few actors can. I'd like to see Cohen branch out like this. However, I have little-to-no interest in seeing a movie about Mercury. -
That is what happens when gary floyd decides not to rewrite someone else's post as his contribution to the thread.

Someone put a bullet in that account's head already.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

He was quite a character. -
I was let down when I finally saw that; I was expecting a lot more bloodshed. I did like how, at the end of it, Mailer says, almost proudly, "Now that's an actor for you!"

Listening to There's a Riot Goin' On. I'm feeling good. How's you guys?

Bump. I'm currently reading The Deer Park, by Norman Mailer. I think he's gonna be the next author I get on a really big kick of. Next in line is the new Michael Chabon novel, The Yiddish Policemen's Union, which I picked up the other day. Can't wait to start.

http://www.forums.spinner.com/2007/05/01/i...-is-bi-coastal/ Which I found thanks to Pitchforkmedia. About four years ago, I had my picture taken with Paul Banks in an Orlando record store. He was a very nice man.

I take back what I said about not doing them any favors. A little tweaking and Interpol could be the next Killers.

Add an "everyone on the previous page who started talking about wrestling" option. -

razazteca is a reminder of how this board's old guard used to be tolerant of any feeble-minded shut-in, as long as he wasn't actively trolling. He makes a great cautionary tale; his presence will keep the TSM denizens from getting soft again. -
You can't seriously think this, right? Didn't you see banky's post earlier in the thread? People who like Joy Division are incapable of free will. No one really likes it.

My post on the first page was not meant in jest or to be snide; al's behavior indicates he's still hung up on this girl, so he lashes out at the dumbass she's currently seeing. We've all been there, so it's understandable behavior, but let's not pretend those morons (the ex-gf and the new guy) deserve his abuse. The girl, in particular, has gotten on with her life; al appears to have not.

Gotta date tomorrow; drunk tonight.
Giuseppe Zangara replied to Giuseppe Zangara's topic in No Holds Barred
Nah, she was someone I saw in a record store. Ice was broken over music-related matters; I didn't have time to talk to her as much as I would've liked, so, since she was cute, I asked her out for the hell of it. She accepted. A few days later, during the date, I discovered she wasn't much of a talker. In fact, she told me that about three times, each time being one of the rare moments where she thought to contribute to the conversation. If it weren't for the fact that she followed up each of those confessions with a sheepish apology; that she laughed at all my moments of wit and smiled at my engaging manner (which, by the end of that hellishly long 90 minutes, I was very much forcing); the fact that she called me earlier, leaving a voice mail just a few hours ago, inquiring if maybe we could get together again...if it weren't for all that, I'd wonder if her reserved behavior during the date was more her being horribly bored by me, rather than her being socially inept. -
snuffbox, you often make statements you unconvincingly try to back up. It's not a good trait.

You may be right about his intellect, but, given the circumstances, you come off especially bitter and probably a little jealous.

Also, no one's hating the Eagles because they get played a lot on the radio; they're being hated for being absolutely fucking awful. And that Hinder comparison is really, really stupid and inaccurate.

I never made it past the first four songs on their debut, thanks to the one of the most annoying fuckwits to sing for a rock band, regardless of subgenre.
