I have manic depressive/bipolar disorder type 2.

That was what I was originally going to post, but I figured that was one of those things everyone knew. I don't keep up with board biographies very well! -

Oh, that's not what I was pointing out. -

They were fucked from birth. -
Not to belabor a point, but the time I would've been interested in seeing Christmas on Mars passed about a year or so into its production. So, 2002? I liked Fearless Freaks, though.

Clouds Taste Metallic, brah. Though if you liked anything about Yoshimi, then The Soft Bulletin.

It might be time to try The Soft Bulletin again. I'd have to find it, though; it's not on my computer nor my iPod. I still have the CD, but most of my CDs are in boxes. Maybe a project for tonight. This thread did inspire me to listen to Clouds Taste Metallic, which is on my iPod. First Lips album I ever bought (I was around when "She Don't Use Jelly" was a hit, but I was still a little too wrapped up in grunge for it to connect) so it has some nostalgia value. Even without it, CTM is just a really fun record.

If he had changed that 'z' to an 'm' his mother might still be with us.

Given all the times in the past I've gone on about how much I can't stand the cartoon characters they've become, which, in turn, makes me a little sad because they were one of the first bands I felt passionately about back when I was getting into "good" music, my absolute favorite Flaming Lips song, "Waitin' for a Superman," is one that, much like a lot of The Soft Bulletin, points in the direction they've gone over the last decade. The current incarnation of the Lips has done a lot to turn me off that album, being that everything they've done since has been a shinier and more polished reworking of that particular record. I mean, fucking "Do You Realize" is Air Supply.

Pavement Thread, Pavement Thread

They write good songs, dude. Just from the two albums you mentioned, "Here," "Summer Babe," "Range Life," etc. Plus, looking at it from an alternative-from-grunge perspective is the wrong way to go about it. -
Byron, you're a fucking douche...

Man, I love "The Usurper." I just prefer Celtic Frost's short-distance sprints to their long-distance runs.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't. He only left a few minutes before the police are there. But... he's a professional... If you listen carefully (or turn up the volume) you can hear Mr. Pink yell "You fuckin' shot me!" or some such thing. I can't imagine that's something he (or anyone) would say that as they were successfully escaping the police, though the idea is hilarious.

Then I'll have nothing to fall back on when he hands me my ass in less than five minutes. -

Smartly Pretty and I live in the same city. He's asked me to hang out before; I'm sure he's a nice kid and all, but what am I going to do (within the confines of the law) with a 17-year old? -
This needs a bump. I've lately fallen in love with Bell's Java Stout. Coffee stouts in general are a can't-miss beer, but this one in particular is extraordinary. So rich and malty, but not overly so. A new favorite. Also, I recently tried Brooklyn's Black Ops. Split this with a friend because, as much as I appreciate high-quality beer, I can't yet bring myself to drop $20 on a single, 25-ounce bottle. I sing a different tune now that I've had it; in spite of its strength (11% alcohol; plus it's bottle-conditioned so it's probably stronger), this goes down incredibly smooth. Definitely picking it up again on my next trip to Whole Foods.

I hope he uses Autotune!

http://www.freep.com/article/20090106/ENT04/90106024 Sucks when people die, but the upshot of this is we're closer than ever to forgetting The Weirdness was ever recorded.

What band does or doesn't get into the Hall of Fame has no relevance on my opinion of their worth, but if there are musicians who truly look to be recognized and feel genuinely honored by this sort of thing, who am I to begrudge them of it? I didn't care that the occasion of the Clash's induction would've marked the first time they played together in nearly 20 years, but it obviously meant a lot to the people involved, so it was sad that Strummer died so shortly before it was to happen. EDIT: The Stooges haven't actually been voted into this year's Hall yet, but they are among the nominees. If it's not too late re: voting (I don't know nor care to look this up), I wouldn't be surprised if Asheton's death pushes them in.
-
It's a shame he didn't get to live to see it, but this still ranks low on the bummer scale compared to Joe Strummer dying mere weeks prior to the Clash's induction.

That's a lot of makeup. This girl is OK, I guess, but nothing really makes her stand out from a lot of other people of her ilk.

I was addressing what started that chain of shitty posts.

The real crime here is lumping in Jet with the Stooges and MC5, as if the former deserved to be in the same company with the latter. They don't. Jet is the Hinder of the garage-rock set.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_the_Skye Doesn't seem any more ridiculous than the storyline of Blood Mountain.
