Hey, Edwin, is A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man a prerequisite for Ulysses? Within the first 10 pages of the latter I've noticed Buck and Stephen touch on something that I assume happened in the former (the death of Stephen's mother). I mean, I'm not having any trouble at the moment (knock on wood), but is there anything that will greatly confuse me if I haven't read A Portrait?

Yeah. Considering I also have The Jungle and Catcher in the Rye to read for school purposes, it might take me a while. And (Y) for Strangelove.

The official haul: CD's: Prince's 1999, U2's How to Dismantle..., The Arcade Fire's Funeral, Slint's Spiderland (!@#*U%R#), and The Beatles' Abbey Road. DVD's: Buffy season 7, Shaun of the Dead, Hellboy Director's Cut, Collateral, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Platoon, and Spider-Man 2. Plus Ulysses, and gift cards for Best Buy and Smoothie King. Good stuff. PS; Shaun wasn't really dull. Some of the exposition was a little long and unnecessary, but it was an overall good flick.

I got a ton of cds and dvds and gift cards and clothes. It was a very good Christmas. Edit: and Ulysses. Now, if I ever get a chance to read it is another story.

Prince's Sign 'o' the Times concert was playing on Showtime in the background as we feasted on our Christmas Eve dinner. Hilarity ensued when "If I Was Your Girlfriend" played during my father's pre-meal 'grace'.

Especially if she's hot and Armenian. -
When I was 8, I liked the Spice Girls, Weird Al, Jewel, and the guy who sang "Return of the Mack". It was somewhere in that time frame, at least.

yeah, I had the privilege of reading both matches, and I must say, I completely understand Mike's dilemma. Both matches were incredible. Toxxic brought some awesome, innovative spots, and his usual polish and professionalism (for lack of a better term). Landon, meanwhile, made Toxxic seem like a fucking prick. No, I mean moreso than usual. Great, great psychology on his part. I totally bought both finishes. I think Landon just brought some extra 'oomph', with a match that was truly the charismatic underdog finally beating the unstoppable champion. I have to admit I haven't been reading much here lately, but reading those two matches really got me back into things. Big ups to both of you.

yikes, The Czech Republic is bitter!

Alas, I think Mike might've stepped out for the evening. I talked to him beforehand, and he was torn. Torn, but leaning towards a direction. Zow!

and to top it all off, Gus' shirt is off when he's heaving a massive phallic object (and balls) up a hill.

Argh. I can't stand Freddy and Kendra. Funny to see someone finally get fed up with Jonathan and kick him out. And goddamn, I hope Adam and Rebecca seriously fuck up, allowing Lori and Bolo to catch up and beat them out. But that'll take one big fuck up.

EDIT: nevermind. that was terrible.

Lemony Snicket wasn't too bad. Too much kiddie humor (obviously), and not as dark and depressing as some people made it out to be. Carrey was excellent, of course. But the subtitled baby was fucking annoying. 6/10

Ha indeed. That reminded me of the episode where they hired a publicist to increase their public image.

oh, and good job for Jason Bateman for directing this fine episode.

oh my god, what a wonderful episode. Gob's speech about what not to do at the party rivaled Buster's similar extended-beep in "Bringing Up Buster". Beautiful.

I caught Thirteen last night on HBO. It was a little out there at times, but it was a reasonably enjoyable, if not downright disturbing, picture that was probably exaggerated just a tiny bit. 7/10

Yeah. I used to wear Kurt Angle's "I'll Make You Tap Out" shirt to school. EDIT: But I had so much fun!

I can't believe all three movies are in IMDB's top ten of all time. Not to mention ROTK is #2.

hey, happy birthday Zack!
