14-3 at the half because WVU blew a snap around the 3 yard line on 3rd down, forcing a FG on 4th down from about their 20. Also, Pat White is out right now with a bruised thigh, but is expected to return.

South Florida's up 14-0 on West Virginia in the 2nd right now. That would be a major blow to the Big East's hopes of getting a team into the BCS Title Game, as I doubt an undefeated Rutgers or South Florida would be able to jump USC, LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, Ohio State, or Wisconsin without a lot of help.

I saw the jerseys with the combo pelican / Fleur De Lis logo at the merchandising tent before the LSU-South Carolina game. I know what it's meant to represent and everything, but that logo is still fuckin' ugly.

You say that now... If Oklahoma and West Virginia go 13-0 and 12-0, respectively, then being in the #1 spot makes it that much more likely NOT to get bumped by either of those teams. (I don't think West Virginia makes it because their defense is sub-par, but Oklahoma could likely go 13-0 the way the Big 12 is this year.)

The difference between the two is that Florida only had it happen once... Wisconsin was a lot closer than it should have been about three times this year. The best comparison I can make would be to Ohio State in 2002... They didn't get a lot of respect because they kept winning close and had a poor offense for such a top team. The only time they gained any respect is when they beat Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.

Sagarin's rankings only have USC with a slight lead over LSU. USC has a 99.64 and LSU has a 98.32. The next-closest team to LSU, Oklahoma, has a 93.18. There's still a good chance LSU will regain the #1 spot in the Sagarin Rankings by the time the first BCS poll comes out, ESPECIALLY if they beat Florida on October 6.

It's arguable to put LSU, USC, or Oklahoma at #1. However, putting West Virginia at #1 is just plain stupid, IMHO. WVU doesn't have much of a defense, so they're in danger of getting beat like Louisville has this year... by someone capable of exploiting their bad D to put up quick points. Florida would be arguable if this wasn't a week where they barely beat Ole Miss, who is by far the worst team in the SEC. (Ole Miss played LSU into OT last year but, on the whole, they've never really been consistently competitive since Eli Manning left after the 2003 season.) (This is mostly directed at Carnival, who put WVU at #1 in his poll.)

That's not saying much... Marshall hasn't been very good in probably 5-6 years and they lost to a I-AA team last week.

I was never #1 until the first week of this season. I'm amazed I held onto it for so long.

Taking Kentucky from SEC cellar-dweller to a likely 2nd consecutive bowl bid is fairly impressive considering these guys were on probation in the last decade thanks to Hal Mumme. It's not a miracle-worker job like making Duke or Baylor competitive, but it's fairly good for an SEC team.

Louisville can still beat some teams if they play decent defense OR their offense blows the doors off the opposition. That being said, they aren't beating the couch-burners from Morgantown or Rutgers barring a miracle. They can still beat: NC State (poor team this year) Utah (Outside of the UCLA game, they've disappointed.) U-Conn (Their record is bolstered by wins over poor teams like Duke, I-AA Maine, Pitt, and Temple.) Pitt (They look poor when playing BCS league competition like Michigan State and U-Conn.)

WKU isn't a true FCS team... they're a transition team between FCS and FBS.

You know, I didn't really think about that. I still think they drop one, maybe two to teams other than LSU but it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that they'll be playing that game for the right to play in the SEC title game. It's not out of the realm of possibility, but Saban hasn't been LSU's coach since January 1, 2005. Somehow, I doubt there's a lot of inside info that Saban has that's still good since, with Jimbo Fisher now at FSU, there are no assistants remaining from any of Saban's staff at LSU. (I seriously doubt new OC Gary Crowton is keeping a lot of Jimbo's offense and/or signs in place.)

Who beats Texas to get them to 10-2? OU and who else, A&M? Also, how does Florida end up 10-2? Have them losing to Kentucky or SC? If you have them losing to LSU twice, that should be *11-2* for their record.

    1. Brennan set TD records while at Hawaii last year 2. I think Brennan is considered more legitimate by the "mainstream" sportswriters because he was at Colorado before getting thrown off the team for a conviction. (Burglary, IIRC) Because he's a former blue-chip prospect from a power BCS program, he probably gets more deference than the average "system" QB from a Texas Tech or Hawaii.

NDSU can probably beat CMU... CMU has fallen apart since their coach jumped schools. (He's at Cincinnati now, right?)

Care to explain why WVU and Florida are above LSU, Oklahoma, and USC? Florida I can see because they smacked Tennessee around on national TV. However, WVU hasn't shown me that their defense could even stop Notre Dame's anemic offense this year. If they face a team with the offense to keep up with them, I wouldn't be confident they could pull off a victory.

    kkk Bowl V: Week 2

The way things are looking, my KKK Bowl team will finish up MUCH better than my local NFL team, Da 'Aints. We knew the defense sucked but we're wondering WTF happened to Drew Brees and the rest of the offense.

And he should be, IMHO. Brohm puts up a lot of fireworks, too, but doesn't have Brennan's numbers. JD Booty shouldn't even be in the same category because he's mainly a caretaker for the USC offense rather than a game-breaker.
