It's not that I wouldn't MIND Davis as much as they have a shitload of TEs on the team already, so they'd have to cut Shad Meyer or Ernie Conwell. (They just re-signed Zach Hilton, so I don't think he'd be quite as expendable as the other two)

Heh... the Randy GIF combined with the Leinart draft thing is fucking HILARIOUS!
-
Of those two, the Niners have the best chance of pulling it off because getting their second first-round pick may make up for possibly losing out on Brick or AJ Hawk. Of course, the question becomes "Who do they take if both guys are off the board?", and the answer to that could be T Winston Justice, DT Haloti Ngata, or another move down the board.

Well, this addresses one question as well as opening up some new avenues for investigation... -
You're mistaken here man. I don't think we were even going to take a QB with our first pick. Sal Palantonio said that the Jets and Saints have had talks already. The Saints asked for #4, #29, and #71, but the Jets don't want to give up that much. Was that when they thought they'd be getting their choice of Leinart or Young, or is this since Mario Williams signed with the Texans at #1?
-
No toxicology has been released yet, but I'd say it's probably a 75% chance of a "yes" on that question. Howe had gotten in a motorcycle accident in Montana in the last few years in which he ended up with a DUI, so he still had his demons. EDIT- That DUI was about 8 years ago, so he MAY have shaped up since then. I doubt it, though.

I could see a Lions staffer "accidentally" delivering the wrong card to the league in order to prevent Millen from screwing things up. It's not unheard of for stuff like that to happen... One NBA team (Golden State?) did that by accident before and Minnesota DID move down several picks in the first round a few years ago because they weren't watching the clock.

The only thing that would make this better is if the landlord of Bush's parents had video proof of giving money to Bush's family... Then again, I'm also a vindictive sonofabitch and hate stuck-up and annoying USC fans.

The only quibble I have is Leinart falling all the way to 10. It's realistic, but that means that Oakland and Buffalo, two teams with long-term QB issues, would be passing on Leinart. (Oakland has NO long-term QB... Aaron Brooks is a goddamn idiot and Marques Tuiasosopo is an underachieving journeyman. JP Losman ain't cutting it in Buffalo and Kelly Holcombe isn't a long-term solution.)

Scenario- The Saints trade the #2 to the Jets for the #4 and #29 picks, with possible shuffling of other late-round selections. How it will end up- The Saints will pick up Brick at #4 barring a shocker. At #29, they'll probably pick up C Nick Mangold of Ohio State if he's on the board. If not, they'll get the best LB available, such as DeMeco Ryans of Alabama or Thomas Howard of UTEP. The best-case scenario would be Brick at 4, Mangold at 29, and Ryans at 34. Reasoning- Brick is a no-brainer. Mangold is a necessity if he's available because the departure of C LeCharles Bentley leaves the Saints with only one Center left on their roster. Having a big hole in the middle means an increased probability of a DT knocking Drew Brees on his ass all day. On top of the need at Center, the other big need, LB, is a well-stocked position that will still be around at the start of the 2nd round.
-
Brick will be gone by the #6 pick, as the Jets and Packers are both teams that could use a stud left tackle. Hawk is more questionable. It depends on the Pack not taking him, which is strictly dependant on Ferguison still being on the board. That won't happen, though, because I think that the Jets will snatch up Brick if they can't get Bush at #2.
-
Well, they've got a good shot at him because either the Titans or Jets will pass on a QB in favor of Bush or Brick. The only things between the Raiders and Leinart are the in-fighting of the Titans' coaching staff (Young vs. Leinart) and the possibility of a late swoop by Arizona or someone else to trade up to either #5 or #6. (I'm assuming it'll be #5 because the Niners seem set on Vernon Davis while the Packers need to fill a LOT of holes)
-
Even though I didn't see it happening, this REALLY puts the Saints in the catbird seat of the draft. Now they can demand a premium price because the taker could get Reggie Bush, Leinart, or Vince Young, all of whom could go off the board at #3 to the Titans. If the Saints drop to the #4 slot, they'll get D'Brickashaw Ferguison barring an unexpected swerve. If the Saints end up with the Packers' pick at #5, I think they'll probably end up with AJ Hawk because I think the Jets may pick up Brick instead of either Leinart or Young.
-
I agree with most of the thoughs on here about Bush, in that this means the Saints will be wheeling and dealing for the next 16 hours to see who's willing to pony up the best deal for Reggie Bush. The Jets are in the driver's seat since they have two 1st Round picks (#4 and #29, IIRC) but Green Bay could also pull it off if they swapped the #5 pick, Javon Walker, and some other pick later in the draft (hopefully a 3rd rounder) for the #2 slot.

I wouldn't necessarily want to claim that either... The only joy I'd get out of it would be shutting up the annoying USC fans who claim that their dynasty was so much better than Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, and others over the past few years. At least none of the teams I listed above have had these kinds of alleged improprieties during their big runs recently. -
If the Texans take Williams instead of Bush, things will get interesting in a hurry, as there are probably a lot of teams willing to trade for the Saints' #2 pick if they know they can get Bush. I'm thinking that if Bush is available, the Jets may want to trade the #4 and #29 picks to the Saints to move up. That being said, I think that this is probably a bullshit negotiating ploy. The Texans have been committed to Bush informally for months, which everyone knows, so this smacks of a last-ditch effort to break Bush and get him to accept a smaller deal than he's pushing for.

I assume your talking about this. That headline is bad enough... The kickers are in the timeline section. 1. The landlord gave Bush's parents money to travel to USC away games, which is a BIG no-no 2. Contact initially started in November 2004, although no benefits were listed at that time If #2 is tied to any known benefits, USC could not only forfeit their entire 2005 season, but possibly the last 4-5 games of 2004 as well, including the Orange Bowl game against Oklahoma for the BCS title -
I'd say that Bush has some questions considering that USC used a tandem system with him and Lendale White. 1. Can he handle taking 30+ touches a game? He typically only got 15-20 or so a game at USC because of their tandem backfield. 2. Will he be able to punch it in from the goalline? White picked up all of those at USC, so I don't think he's really been tested in that regard. 3. How well will he adapt to pro defenses, which will be much faster than the guys he blew past at USC? I'm not saying he'd be a bad pick, but I do question a lot of the hype he's getting. As far as picks considered to be head and shoulders above the rest, I'd say D'Brickashaw Ferguison and Mario Williams are probably there, but RBs and QBs get all the attention and so all the focus is on Bush, Leinart, Young, and Cutler.

Michael Vick being a bust is news to me... It depends on how one defines "bust". Vick will certainly be a disappointment, no matter HOW good he is, until he wins a Super Bowl. Them's the breaks when you're a highly-hyped #1 overall draft pick that a team traded up to get.

On top of everything else going on, it appears that Winston Justice (tackle) has been tied to the same agent rep as Reggie Bush. Specifically, the rep had mentioned going out for a night on the town with Bush, Justice, and others and implied that someone had gotten them a $300+ a night suite in San Diego. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-b...e=lgns&expire=1 -
EDIT- NM, missed the post above.

One of the sports sites had a good article on this, although I didn't know the situation at the time... Pretty much, the author implied that Williams *DID* test positive for this particular substance by accident but, because of his past behavior involving unapologetic pot use, he wasn't going to be given the benefit of the doubt on this test.

Brick is my top choice... However, if I was the Saints, I'd be considering a drop down to either #4 or #5 if I could swing a good deal because they're low on first-day picks. Trading the #2 to the Jets for the #4 and #26 sounds good considering Brick will likely still be on the board at 4. Even if the Titans fuck them and take Brick instead of Young, Leinart, or Cutler, they could still get Hawk.
