    The College Football Thread 11/29 - 12/1

Because of the whole "Well we never lost in regulation" nonsense? A loss is a loss. It's not like the NFL where the first team to score wins it all. Both teams are given a chance to win and LSU blew it twice. No, that actually won't be the reason why. 1. Voters won't put Georgia in over LSU since LSU won the SEC while Georgia didn't even win the SEC East. 2. Voters won't put V-Tech in over LSU since LSU spanked them like 41-10 earlier this year. The only teams I see as possibilities besides LSU are Oklahoma and USC, and each has at least one loss to a sub-500 team. (Oklahoma to Colorado and USC to Stanford)

Another Oregon turnover. HOWEVER, this one will likely be turned over on review.

... Fake punt by Oregon for about 40 yards, fumble, Arizona recovers. Oh, that's a review...

'Cats return a punt for a TD, but there's a possible flag (block in the back) on the play.

TD, Arizona. 23-11, pending PAT. Unless Brady Leaf becomes Tom Brady, or even Brady Quinn, Oregon's in trouble.

Ryan Leaf's little brother just threw a Pick Six. No word on whether he'll cuss out a reporter at halftime.

When I beat you, I'm not sure if it was when I was #1 overall, but it likely came down to a tiebreaker. Most of my games this year have come down to tiebreakers and, IIRC, I always came out on top for those. (It's the odd-numbers differences weeks that bite me in the ass...)

I'm beating one of your other records, though... Best all-time record in the BoredCS. (You took a half-game lead on me to start this season after I went 7-6 last year.)

Heh... I win and may end up becoming #1 in the BoredCS rankings, yet I haven't even clinched a berth in my conference title game yet.

The Fighting Zookers of Illinois are up 21-14 on Ohio State at the half. If Illinois pulls off the upset, that should eliminate tOSU from the BCS CG race, given the general perception that tOSU is being propped up by a seriously weak schedule.

If the current score of the Tennessee/Arkansas game is any indication, LSU will clinch the SEC West about 4 hours before gametime tonight.

There's "concede" and then there's "roll over to get ass-raped." This is looking like the latter.

My understanding is that the BCS frowns on bowls doing re-matches of either games played earlier in the season OR of the prior year's bowl games. Thus, Boise-Oklahoma would likely be frowned upon unless they were backed in a corner. Boise is currently #20 in the BCS poll and has a loss to pitiful Washington. A lot of things would need to break their way in order to get in the Top 12 (automatic bid) or Top 16 (conditional bid). In order for the top 16 to automatically qualify them, there must be a BCS Conference champ with a ranking of 16 or higher. The way things are looking right now, the only way I see that happening is if the ACC champ has lost several games late OR Cincinnati beats UConn and West Virginia, then West Virginia beats UConn. (That would give Cincy the BCS bid over West Virginia and UConn via head-to-head victories over both.) The Big 12, Pac Ten, Big Ten, and SEC champs will almost assuredly be within the Top 10 of the BCS. (The only way any of those four leagues comes up short is if a 3-loss SEC East team beats LSU in the SEC Title Game and doesn't get a big boost in the final BCS rankings as a result.)

You said part of it... Nebraska's not what they used to be. When Kansas beats up on Missouri and/or Oklahoma like that, they'll get respect. The rest of the B12 doesn't look too spectacular this year.

What's worse, a last-second loss to Cal due to a fumble or a 3OT loss to Kentucky? What's better, a convincing win (by around 30 points) over V-Tech and wins over ranked teams like Florida, South Carolina, Auburn, and Alabama or a convincing win over Michigan and solid (but not convincing) wins over USC and Arizona State?

Question - With BC out, who takes over at #2, LSU or Oregon? LSU has more quality wins than Oregon, but Oregon just beat highly-ranked (#4?) ASU fairly solidly today in comparison to LSU's win over #17 Bama.
  22. teke184

    The College Football Thread 11/1 - 11/4

UConn can't get there... they lost to UVA and the rest of their schedule isn't enough to put them over the top.
  23. teke184

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - Week 10

Well, I win if there's no more points scored in Oregon-ASU. (The tiebreaker I picked was 57, which is 1 less than the current total of 58.) If another TD is scored, I lose. EDIT- Pending an Arkansas win over South Carolina, I mean, which is currently going my way.
  24. teke184

    The College Football Thread 11/1 - 11/4

LSU comes away with the win thanks to a tremendous sack / forced fumble by S Chad Jones, which gave the Tigers the winning TD. Craig Steltz sealed the win by knocking the living shit out of the Bama WR and karring the ball loose for an incompletion on 4th down. BTW, this just about clinches the SEC West for LSU. Alabama was the only one-loss team left in the West, so now LSU has at least a 2-game lead on Alabama and Auburn (head-to-head tiebreakers) and a 3-game lead on Mississippi State. Ole Miss is currently 0-6 in the SEC, so they're out even before playing LSU. The only way LSU loses the West is if they drop games to Ole Miss and Arkansas.
