    NFL Week 7

I hope it won't be a beatdown, but these past five years haven't given me much of a reason to be optimistic about this team after a big win. I really hope I'm wrong though.

Well, I'm happy that the Raiders proved me wrong for once. I'll enjoy this win from a fan's standpoint, until next week's beatdown of course. Good win, Raiders. Sadly it was the biggest win since the 02 AFC championship game, but baby steps right?

Don't underestimate the Raiders ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. A tie is looking more and more likely.

It would only be fitting. This has been a shitty game for both teams.

Ok here's a positive: I predict after the Jet Punt, Janikowski will kick the game winner.

Even though the game is close to being won, I expect the Raiders to blow it somehow.

2008 NLCS: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Eh, a case of a few bad apples ruinging the bunch to me. I always knew Dodger fans were rowdy, and I guess it was the perfect time to let it all hang out on the national stage. And I call major bullshit on the women bashing story zio. Do you have a source for that zio, or just going by heresay? That seems really too outrageous to be true. And if you are really getting insecure about out of towner fans view Philly fans maybe its time to step back and chill for a bit.

    Is it just me or...

I have been a lurker/poster on the board since forever, but to this day I'm astounded how long TSM has lasted. Think about it, we outlasted WDI, SNKT, NMB, the Pit twice and other forgettable offshoots of this board. Look at the owenership changes: Scott Keith to Dames to Mole to the Maff Crew and really without really overhauling or changing the spirit of the board. It's really a testament to the community at large to be still chugging along after almost seven years. To put it in perpective for me at least, This iteration of the board started when I was 16 and a junoir in high school and now I'm going on 23 and a year removed from college. Not to sound corny, but I felt I grew up with the board and my only regret is not interacting enough with you guys. Lastly, I want to echo Czech's sentiments a bit. If this place dies (and I'm sure it will be sooner than later, all things come to an end), I'm sure all of us would move on and go on with our lives. But in a crazy way, I would miss it. Not cry over it or anything, but it would be weird if a place that I have been going to for 7+ plus years was just going away. Kinda would a little void, a piece of my formative years history. There has never been a time where I didn't log off, and had a good laugh, didn't learn something new, or just seek a differing opinion from mine. It was a good ride, and most importantly it was fun.

2008 NLCS: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Congrats to Al, zio, milliondollarchamp and the other Phillies fans on the board. The Phillies were the better all year and proved it when it counted. There is no shame in losing to the better team, and the Phillies proved why they were better. What a solid lineup and pitching staff from top to bottom. Hopefully, you guys break that 25 year drought. As for the Dodgers, the wild ride comes to an end, a fitting end really. The team's fatal flaw was exposed this series, and it was a flaw that was prevelant all year. I'm looking forward to next season with great anticipation as Looney, Kemp, Ethier, DeWitt and Martin all got immeasurable experience that I hope we can build on. What a wild and memorable season this was. Bittersweet, but after last year's debacle with the vets vs. kids, it was a fun October.

    NFL Week 7

1:00 games.. Dallas Cowboys @ St. Louis Rams- The Rams looked like a different team against the Redskins and the Cowboys won't have Romo. However, I think Brad Johnson plays steady at QB and the Cowboys win by 10. San Diego Chargers @ Buffalo Bills- The Chargers woke the fuck up against the Pats and look scary right now. This is first of many big tests for the Bills, but I don't think they will be able to handle the this one. Chargers win New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers- The Saints lit up my shitty Raiders and I think are back on track on offense. I like the Saints in this one Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears- This will be a defensive minded game. I still think Minnesota is overrated and the Lions game proved it. I like the Bears in this one. Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals- Even with half of their offense gone, the Steelers will stomp the Queen City Kitties. Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs- Tennessee will roll and will stay perfect. Baltimore Ravens @ Miami Dolphins- The Dolphins are surprisingly compentent, and the Ravens are kinda lousy on offense. I like the Dolphins at home. San Francisco 49ers @ New York Giants- I think the 49ers will make it a game, but the champs will bounce back after their first loss of the season. 4:00 games.. Detroit Lions @ Houston Texans- Detriot sucks at every facet of football, so I like the Texans here. New York Jets @ Oakland Raiders- Like LT, Brett Favre has made a career of torching the Raiders. The Raiders are hands down the most overpaid, untalented excuse for football team, so I hope the Jets pour it on here. I've converted to Al Davis must go side, and after the debacle on Sunday. I never thought watching football would be a chore. Cleveland Browns @ Washington Redskins- The Browns have seemingly woken up and Redskins are coming off a terrible loss. I like the Browns to make it to .500 here. Indianapolis Colts @ Green Bay Packers- Pack beat up a shitty Seahawk tean, but won't have any luck against the Colts here. Sunday Night Football: Seattle Seahawks @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers- What looked to be a good match up in August is an easy Buccaneer victory. Monday Night Football: Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots- Payback will be a bitch (again) against a team the Pats have victimized in the past. Shanahan never forgets past transgressions and will run up the score here if given a chance too. EDIT: Looking at history, The Broncos have actually had a pretty good record against the Pats, but Shanahan still will run up the score if it gets out of hand.

2008 NLCS: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Honestly, this is the Dodger team I have been expecting since the playoffs started. The team has struggled generating offense at times and leaving runners on base, had gotten better with Blake and Manny, but the core of the team at the beginning of the year has stunk swinging the bats especially with runners in scoring postion. 3-1, is a big hole to climb and I do not expect the Dodgers to pull it off, but this was the same team who lost eight in a row then won eight in a row in August/September, so as a fan I'm not going to give up until the last out is recorded on Wednesday. If we lose, I can't really get too bummed out about it. This team for all intents and purposes swang from decent to dogshit all season until we got Manny. I have never seen the Dodgers go to the NLCS (I was 2 going on 3 in 1988) in my sports viewing lifetime, so making this far was pretty cool. This season has had such high peaks and low valleys and to only win 84 games and make it this far in the playoffs, playing with house money is extremely gratifying and I hope we sign Manny to whatever the fuck he wants because its not everyday you get to watch one of the greatest hitters of our lifetimes play ball in your backyard.

    Your city's most-loved team

I'll rank the major LA sports teams according to coverage in the media and popularity: 1. Lakers- By far the most popular and most covered team in the region and it's not even close. The love/hate relationship the media has with Kobe Bryant is insane. 2. Dodgers- A year or two ago, I would have ranked the Dodgers way lower. The Fox group made this team almost irrelevant in this city, and the media hates the McCourts for some reason, but IMO, the McCourts have done a nice job rehabilitating the team's image. Getting Joe Torre was a great move, but landing Manny and winning in the playoffs for the first time in 20 years has Los Angeles caring about it's beloved baseball team in ways I have never seen in my sports watching lifetime. 3. (Anaheim) Angels- Before 2002, nobody gave a shit about this team. After 2002, it seems everyone is an Angels fan. The media here trips over itself praising Arte Moreno and always seem to compare with the Dodgers and the Angels in the most unflattering way possible. Gets good coverage in the local media. 4. USC Trojan football- This is Los Angeles' de facto pro football team. Gets insane coverage and good press here for a college team. Everyone who plays for the Trojans is a superstar, in there own right. UCLA is a way distant second right now. 5. UCLA Bruin football- They are down right now, but when good they are just as popular as USC (everyone is either a Trojan or Bruin fan here). 6. UCLA Bruin basketball- Three Final Four appearances in three seasons. Have captured some of the prestige they lost since their last NCAA title in 1995. John Wooden is a living legend in basketball circles out here. 7. Clippers- A sad excuse for a pro franchise. The media's favorite punching bag here. Nobody here cares about the Clippers except for the diehards. 8. Kings/Ducks- 15 years ago, hockey was HOT here in LA. After Gretzhy left, hockey's popularity has dwindled save for some moments. It's sad to see, because the King's are a joke and the Duck's are ignored. The media rarely mentions anything about hockey save for the box scores, standings and scant beat writer reports. Edit: For Darthtiki.

    Campaign 2008

IMO, I think the Republicans are going to lose this election in a similar fashion the Conservative Party of Canada lost Canada'a general election in 1993. I think all of us are going to be surprised by the margin of defeat the Republicans are going to suffer in the federal, congressional and local races. I'm pretty sure that after this year, the Republicans are going to ditch the Religious Right once and for all, and we could see a dramatic return to power of the moderate wing of the Republican Party the nation saw pre-1980. Reaganomics and Reagan Republicans, I believe, will be history this year.

    NFL Week 6

Sorry to rain on your parade but: MORT CONFIRMS THE LEAGUE OFFICE HAS NOT THREATENED THE RAIDERS WITH SANCTIONS Posted by Mike Florio on October 9, 2008, 4:41 p.m. There was a somewhat bizarre item on ESPN.com this morning, which gave credence to a recent non-ESPN report suggesting that the NFL already has determined that the Raiders violated league rules in connection with an accusation by owner Al Davis that the Patriots tampered with receiver Randy Moss in 2007. The initial non-ESPN report indicated that the league already has determined that the claim of tampering made by Davis was and is false. Since then, however, the ESPN.com story has been revised to reflect what we understand (and what we reported) to be the true state of affairs. Thus, the current report from Chris Mortensen (who also was the subject of verbal stink bombs from Davis last week) is that the league has advised the Raiders that, if they have evidence of tampering, they should produce it. And Mort was clear in his retutation of the report from Tuesday that we exposed as premature at best, downright false at worst: “An NFL source firmly denied to ESPN that the Raiders were threatened with sanctions in the letter.” (Indeed, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has said as to the report of correspondence threatening sanctions against the team, “No such letter was sent.”) The new version of the ESPN.com item concludes with this Editor’s note: “In an Oct. 9 story on ESPN television and ESPN.com, information that indicated ESPN had confirmed facts regarding possible sanctions in a letter from the NFL to the Oakland Raiders was incorrectly characterized due to internal editing. The report should have indicated that ESPN confirmed the existence of a letter asking the Raiders to provide evidence of tampering.”
