HTM was actually advertised ahead of time in 98. I remember them talking about him replacing injured HHH and wondering why the hell HE was in, instead of say, Flash Funk.
-
Val Venis had some pretty decent matches with both Shelton Benjamin and Randy Orton on Heat during both of their respective IC Title runs.

At this point, Val's employment might as well have been a novelty. I assume Coffey is now on suicide watch, though.

Also, during one of the mass layoffs a few years ago, I think Meltzer or one of the other sites reported that there was one wrestler who WWE was trying call to fire him, but they couldn't get in touch. Everyone on TSM was trying to guess who it was. I think Val or Tyson Tomko were the most popular guesses, with Val obviously not being the one.

Tell me you don't honestly think that JBL should be in the main event of Wrestlemania 25. I like JBL and all, but COME ON. There is no reason whatsoever that the title match shouldn't be Cena vs. Orton, unless one of them ends up facing Austin instead. Don't discount JBL v HBK in the Battle for Texas. Throw in another two months of this storyline's slow burn, maybe a "Beat me and earn financial security for the rest of your life; lose and you retire, just like you retired Ric Flair: beaten, battered, and broke." stipulation and you have a respectable main event regardless of workrate. Ding. JBL vs HBK may not be a match of the year candidate however it could be a really great match over all. The storyline is there, HBK the ultimate babyface is there, JBL, a great solid heel who draws a lot of heat from a crowd is there, and since Wrestlemania is in Texas HBK beating JBL for the World Title and getting revenge against JBL would be a emotional pop that would blow the roof off the Houston Dome (that's where it is this year right?). All the makings of a great Wrestlemania main event is right there. A JBL/HBK World Title match wouldn't be my first choice for a WM main event this year, but I wouldn't mind that at all. The financial security vs. retirement (with Flair comparison) is great stuff.

I didn't completely hate his face run at first, but I couldn't buy him as a main eventer for the longest time. One of the worst/most hilarious things that happened during the face run was when they tried to turn him into Stone Cold Randy Orton for the night. It was on a Raw from MSG, and it started out with Orton being barred from the building, only to return at the end of the HHH/Jericho lumberjack match. He ran in, RKO'd all the heels in sight, and when the jobber faces tried to calm him down, they got RKO'd, as well. The whole thing just seemed really forced. I did like the mini-feud with Christian, though. It was a nice break not having him as the main event face whenever that was (February?). And the match on Raw was pretty good, too.

Just so long as Vince stays around as a neutral authority figure like Steph has been, I'm fine with his return.
-
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that. I think it looks terrible. In fact, I won't even considering seeing it because of that retardedly long preview. It was a movie trailer... the same length of a regular commercial break...

Wednesday, 1/21. Speaking of which, IGN has advance reviews of the first two episodes. I didn't dare read anything since I hate being spoiled by just about anything, but they are up for anyone who cares.

I agree that having Taker vs. HBK at WM 25 in Houston is way too good of an opportunity to pass up. They can blow off the JBL feud by No Way Out, and god knows they can do the inevitable Taker vs. monster Umaga feud any other time. I'll be really disappointed if they don't go through with the Taker/HBK match.

Since we already have three matches for the Rumble undercard, and likely an ECW Title match added to make four, I don't see Punk & Regal getting a Rumble rematch. I know they do have five undercard matches occasionally, but since two of the four are now World Title matches, they tend to get a little more time. Plus, Punk and Regal have much more use in the Rumble match itself. It always bothers me when someone like Punk (or Jericho last year) has an undercard match and no Rumble appearance.
-
I'm hoping that there's an end in sight for MVP's losing streak, so while he's obviously not winning the Rumble, I'll predict him to have an impressive iron-man performance that "re-motivates" him to start winning again. But I won't be surprised to see him go in and out, either.
-
Actually, he was standing right next to Hurley when the comet hit Mr. Clucks, so he didn't get hurt. Only Tricia Tanaka and her cameraman were in the building.
-
If they don't go through with the HBK/Taker match for WM, I hope they blowoff the HBK/JBL feud and have Taker face either Jericho or Cena. I'd prefer Jericho since that's maybe the last main eventer Taker really has yet to have a program with, but a Cena match would be great as well.
-
I'm sorry I even remember this, but IIRC, they had a match at the first Spike TV VGA's. I figured he meant that Rey and Jericho have yet to actually feud in WWE.

WWE had HHH vs. Kane a week after No Mercy 2002, I think. All I remember was HBK returning for his first live appearance since Summerslam. He might have even popped out of the casket... I vaguely remember. There was also that Smackdown in the fall of 1999 where HHH had to compete in gimmick matches against the five other guys in the Six-Pack Challenge at Unforgiven to qualify. He was supposed to face Taker in a Casket match, but Taker refused or something (really an injury that put him out until he returned as BikerTaker), so it ended up as HHH vs. Mideon & Viscera as a handicap casket match... and HHH actually lost. I remember being really shocked at that.

I think it was talked about last year, but the first portion of the 93 Rumble match is actually pretty decent. It just goes downhill once Giant Gonzales enters. They probably should have had Perfect stick around for the duration of the match though. Once he was gone, along with Taker a few minutes later, they really only had Savage or Yokozuna as viable winners. As for 1995, it's easily the worst collection of people in the Rumble match ever. What's even more frustrating is that both Owen and Backlund are two guys who could have played serious threats in the match, but both are quickly gone following Bret's interference. The undercard for the show (minus one match) is good, but the Rumble itself is ass. I'll take the 1999 Rumble match over 1995's any day.

I'm interested in seeing Taker vs. Shelton, but I can do without all the overdone heel GM stuff. It's basically the main reason I rarely watch SD.
