Ha ha. It is pretty silly. But y'know, there's usually a few absurdities here and there. I just enjoy the structure of the tournament. I like the Quidditch World Cup. I like Krum, and Fleur. Hermione is finally acknowledged as attractive. There's a lot of book 4 I like. I've read some explanations as to the portkey thing before. I can't really remember if any of them made sense. Likely a lot of it was Voldemort suffering from Bond villain syndrome, ie, the need to be excessively theatrical (and he does display that trait often). There's tons of it on the HP Lexicon site. Actually, come to think of it, if the plan had succeeded, and Voldemort had returned via the portkey to Hogwarts, with Harry's corpse, and appeared before the assemblage of three schools, slaughtering them all and probably Dumbledore sheerly by taking him off guard... bearing in mind that everyone thinks you've been dead for 13 years... that is quite the masterstroke.

As little of a fuck as I give about almost anything, you may be surprised to hear that I hold something of a concern for zoo's treatment of animals. Not an outright moral objection, like I have to the circus, but a concern. I prefer more of a wildlife preserve type environment. San Diego had a pretty kick ass zoo. I've spent the day there almost ten times and still haven't seen it all. LA is a decent smaller zoo. I also like how the old zoo there was just abandoned and you can go screw around in the cages and what not. Considering my concern for the treatment of animals, I was pretty stoked when those tigers killed those guys at the SF zoo. I've actually never been there. Friend of mine takes her little brothers there every week. They would have been there the day the tigers escaped if not for the holiday.

This is an interesting question, because the hype was almost a feint. The hype was all monster, and it really wasn't the monster's movie. It's very much about the friends from the party, set against the back drop of a huge fuck off monster. How do you sell that? Well, you could raise a shitload of hype over the monster, pack the theater on that basis, and then show them your movie which is quite good on it's own terms. Seems to have worked: huge opening, positive reaction. I'm going again with two friends tomorrow, and one of them saw it already too. Genius!

I've always described that book as "all politics" which is not really a knock on it. It's probably my second favorite of the books. My rank is basically: 4 5 3 7 6 2 1 And, as far as sheer, unbridled hated, Umbridge is one of the better villains to come along in quite some time.
