Well, let me brainstorm a bit... when the we were fighting Nazis, everybody was on the same page. Hitler was the devil (and maybe it does bear noting that the soviets don't have a single figurehead like him, they have a few) and nobody argued. The 50s brought a lot of paranoia about communism. We can look back and see a lot of that as unnecesary, which can't be said as such about our Nazi fight. Not to mention all the blacklisting and witchhunts, not so far removed from Nazis in itself. In the 60s and into the 70s, we developed a pronounced "Fuck the establishment." thing. People's parents hated communism, so there was that. You had your whitebread bigoted Archie Bunker types calling everyone pinko, and instead of the "hooray for America" attitude of the 40s, it was "shut up and love it". So they said "I'm not feeling it, what else is there?" And there was the USSR doing pretty well, and they said maybe that's ok. This was going on in people's minds when the sociopolitical climate shifted, there was no definitive conclusion to the issue, and didn't leave anyone with a lasting image of the soviets broken and defeated like we had of the Nazis. By the time the iron curtain fell, our idea of the soviets was already in place, and because it was a cold war, none of that served to make much of a difference. People got tired of Ronald Reagan and George Bush. So maybe that's why people don't mind so much if you say you're down with that scene.

The fact that you have to point this out is a lot of what it comes down to. People ignore that shit, maybe because we didn't fight them in a war like that. People do love the Nazis too, they just can't be as open about it.

I've read 120 Days of Sodom and Juliette. Justine is on my list of things to read, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. 120 Days was indeed quite perverse. It was interesting the way it was structured. When I started reading, I expected a slow start and steady build of depravity, and in a way it was, but then it was in there pretty good right from the start. Juliette was really kind of erotic in it's own way, almost touching sort of. I read it after 120 Days, so I was already introduced to Sade's ways, and it wasn't as distracting as it could have been. Didn't take things as far either, naturally.

Murphy Lee. I love that song, but I don't hold it against you. Funny thing was, it was a Murphy Lee song, on a Murphy Lee album, and he gets denigrated to another random rapper. Too bad for him. Did anyone else besides me notice how badly Murphy Lee mispronounces the word "people" in his part of the song (in the "collect so much grass, people thinkin' we mow lawns" line)? -Ben I think he was saying 'po po' as in, police. While I'm here, I don't like the song "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies either.

A lot of things Austin did. Sitting in Michael Cole's lap and asking if he called Vince McMahon the devil, then beating the shit out of him. Bloodying JR in his hometown. Running into an intimidated JR backstage, getting in his face and saying "What's the matter, ain't you glad to see STONE COLD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD!" Beating Matt Hardy with a chair, Lita lays on him to protect him, so he beats on her too. Favorite character ever.

The real best classic thread is, of course, Cock Shots. Besides that, I don't dig on the self referential and running gag threads the folder seems to be populated with, so I pick CD burner, that was just a good, solid laugh.
