From Hell is really good in a stylistic way, but I can understand why someone wouldn't like that art. He's worked with all kinds of artists.

I'm still having a hard time (having seen it twice now) separating the movie as a whole from Heath Ledger's performance. I'm gonna call it top ten for me, probably, but I honestly didn't even like it more than There Will Be Blood, and that was so recent... this has been a good couple of years for movies. Actually pbone's idea for a straight ahead Long Halloween adaptation isn't bad, except it's a long ass timeline and they've already blown their wad on Harvey Dent. You know what other storyline I could see adapted? Bruce Wayne: Murderer?

I actually really like Maggie Gyllenhaal for some reason. Guy Pearce I also heard mentioned for a Joker recast.

Oh good. I'll get that.

Yep. Even though I like her, the fact that she's ginger just tickles me. It's like dating an albino. In other news, pbone is my new best friend. I hugged him no less than four times today. -
Is Paul Owen still handling the Fisher account?

Salo is better, but there's no need for this. The Salo release had nothing on it, and there's been a release from another company that equals it.

I'm also needlessly cruel, such as telling taigastar that she was so fat she'd keel over from trying to throw a punch. That's good, though, y'know... I've finally gotten to where every time I drink I turn into a completely different person and pretty much forget everything that happens. That's classic, in a literary sense. I was also ranting about my ginger girlfriend, her being a daywalker and that I was going to put a stake in her heart and all this... thank you very much, South Park. -
I feel you. I still kind of take the viewpoint that if they wanted to they could change it, but I guess he's already got his mind made up.

Well, you know, you can't always trust the book. Jurassic Park said Ian Malcolm died, and he came back.

Crispin Glover... now that's a good call. I'm one of those guys who just doesn't like the Riddler at all, though.

Regarding drinking, I got drunk again this weekend. This does fall within the Machiavellian set of rules I outline for myself every time I quit drinking, ie, "Ok, you can drink, but only if you don't have anywhere to be the next day." I dunno, I think I should try to not feel guilty about it. I'm not doing anything, I'm just sitting around playing video games and watching porn. I also planned to meet pbone for lunch, I remembered that. -

You couldn't kick anyone's ass. You'd fall over dead of a heart attack mid-way through one punch. You're really fat, you see. -
Thank you, Anakin Flair, for Long Halloween (I read it already, but I needed it for someone else). I really have a lot of money right now, for various reasons, and you know what? I'm going to this shit like every day. I work right next to a movie theater. I'm going until I get tired of it. My record for theatrical viewings is being broken. (Record is six, for Con Air)

Yes, I consider myself the least racist person imaginable, and I still am like a half step away from being a Neo-Nazi, and will call any black person who irritates me a nigger. You see, racism isn't a prejudice, it's a tool, like a butcher knife or a harpoon or, a... an alligator. -

Well this is a delayed reaction but I did this with my car before the one I just lost for driving it drunk. It was a Honda Civic, not one of the cool ones, a mid 80s hatchback. It had been stolen in excess of five times, and the ignition was so stripped you could jam anything in there and turn it and start it. I used a comb. It got to the point (I was living in a trailer at the time, with the car parked behind it), that it would get "stolen" like twice a week and I'd find it up the street, like some kid just got tired of walking and drove it home. Lucky for him I never found out who, because he had no idea he was borrowing the car of an alcoholic, unstable misanthrope, and I probably would have beaten him to death on general principle if I ever caught him, even if he was 14 years old. -
Yes, the chaos of rabid dogs is a common theme for me, going back to Cujo, which Steve King wrote in a blackout, so I enjoyed that too.

You can send me Long Halloween, thank you. My email is [email protected]

No more spoilers! Fanboys have seen this already. Nobody else gives a shit.

Too long. That's most of it. There's other things, but they don't matter as much. But there seriously is too much going on.

Oh, ok. Get A Life Say it aged badly (true), fuck it, it still makes me laugh. Pioneer of "I'm doing the wrong thing and I'm absolutely proud of it." comedy archetype the Simpsons used later.

Recast of the Joker: I really didn't want that either, because there's no "may very well", that was one of the greatest things I'd ever seen. BUT... if we get an actor who is good enough, and ballsy enough, and respects what Heath did enough, to understand how to try not to copy him, but at the same time bring enough of him into it to not disrespect him. Is this impossible? No. It's hard but not impossible. My choices, as noted: Johnny Depp, who can play anything. Cast Johnny Depp as a fucking table, he'll turn in an Oscar worthy performance. And Daniel Day Lewis, for my money, the greatest actor who has ever lived.

Bane's whole appeal is, pardon the expression, roid rage. Emotional and spiritual roid rage, as well as his Venom addiction. He's a juggernaut, I don't think he's as good when he's not the focus. A lot of backstory. A lot of interplay with the extended bat-universe. I wouldn't use him. Maybe a nod to him for the fans is all.
-
Yeah, actually I agree with all that. Plus, we know they want to make another one. He's as good a character as the Joker, maybe even better, if not as iconic. With proper Joker re-casting, since Heath has laid the blueprint, I would actually think a Harvey focused third movie has potential to be even better. It'd just be... stupid to throw away that chance.

I had a very good crowd. Appropriate reactions, applause for the Joker's first scene, minimal chatter. My only complaint was after the Watchmen trailer some guy said "I have never heard of Watchmen." I consider that good, though, because now people will get that stupid tattoo I have, and not "Rad, a happy face! What the fuck is that spot?
