  1. By choice, as once you have tickets, you'll get to see the show, but the later you wait to go in, you'll just have to take whatever seats you can find. I suppose we could have saved our seats and went to Starbucks or something, but it was just a matter of sit and wait one place or sit and wait another. No big deal, half the time when I get together with friends all we do is sit around and bullshit anyway.

It was something like (paraphrasing): You probably remember it better than I do. Yeah, something like that, while Chaplin'ng it up with his pull-string, which he also did with the detonator later on. I think Ledge clearly studied some mime/silent era comedy. I'm so captivated by his performance that it almost makes me sad I can't go around randomly killing people. Also that he's dead and can't talk about what went into this.
  3. Union City. It wasn't so bad, I mean, I wasn't waiting in line for two hours, I already had the ticket. I know El Brujo waited close to that long too, because he texted me a couple times while we were waiting.

    The Dark Knight

You know, while I agree that the hospital scene was probably the highlight of the Joker, I think my favorite line of his may have been "Yeah." You know what I'm talking about. The ability to make a single word awesome like that, that's good stuff.
  5. Sorry to reopen old wounds, but while passing the two hours or so sitting in the theater waiting for Dark Knight to begin, I got to talking about Metalocalypse slash. The solution seems to be to find the most horrible, disgusting pairing to kill the phenomenon. We came up with: Fatty Ding Dongs/Mustakrakish.

Smartass. A movie defines what limits it places on realism, and then stays within them, and I'm merely saying that this one effect stuck out among the established order. It coming up pretty late in the picture made this even more true.

I actually thought that it was very well done. Looked realistic. Oh and Harvey Dent was probably my favorite character in the movie. Maybe realistic in a textbook sense, but when you have tendons and shit exposed, you pretty much can't go outside. And that's not even approaching the problem of not having an eyelid. But if he wanted it overdone, he succeeded, I just kind of felt it didn't mesh well with the balance of realism the rest of the movie had going.

    Watchmen

I did think it was a good trailer (liked the song choice). I just thought the Osterman effects really didn't look that good, and some of the shots of Rorschach seemed pretty cheesy too. I'm just too much of a fanboy, I think. Watchmen is so symbiotic with the comics medium that I would go further than saying it's unfilmable and ask why you'd even want to film it (the answer of course being money). Animated mini-series, dude. If you're going to adapt it, that's pretty much the only way.

    The Dark Knight

It's not him in particular that's important, but the overblown reaction to this is definitely going to hurt it. But let's just say it lived up to the hype, which is a damn fine accomplishment, cause that was a lot of hype. Get ready for backlash too. That's a casualty of hype, the reaction to the movie overshadows the movie itself. But once the dust settles, I think it'll have a solid place in history. Hell, it's only been like 11 hours since I saw it, and I was asleep for most of that. I gotta let this sink in. And see it a few more times.

I'm sorry. I initially meant that the people in the theater were impressionable fools, but I applied it to you when you mentioned the parade of stupidity. I take it back.

I also don't like that. Not entirely for that reason, but I've stopped wearing shirts that advertise anything, such as bands/movies etc. The one exception is Agoraphobic Nosebleed shirts, because there's a guy who does art for them named Florian Bertmer, and it's some of the coolest art I've ever seen. It transcends being a band shirt. Now there's a backpiece tattoo right there.

    The Dark Knight

Well, yeah, there's actually two things at work here making me take issue with this. One, the differentiation between favorite and best. Favorite means one thing, and best means another. There is no "best to me". Words mean what they mean. This makes me feel like Czech, but I find this irritating. Two, there are people saying this is objectively the best movie ever made. I was with them in the theater last night, greasy haired dumplings with freshly purchased XL Heath Ledger shirts stretched taut over Rockstar filled guts, intoning the virtues of the Long Halloween. "That was, without question, the greatest achievement in the history of film." My theater had a hype man too, who said that in seven years of working in the "film industry" (read: at a movie theater), this was the best film he had ever seen "by far". dubq here has merely been caught in the crossfire of these two irritants. For that, my apologies. However, the personal insults will not be tolerated.

    The Dark Knight

    No, that's the whole point.

    The Dark Knight

The part that you bolded means that you're saying "There could be a better movie, but I haven't seen it." That has nothing to do with favorite/best. You're wrong, that's all there is too it. I know what you meant. I know what everyone else who said that meant. You're impressionable fools.

    The Dark Knight

Here I'll point out that there is a distinction to be made between "favorite" and "best". It can help in these situations.

    Watchmen

CGI looks pretty bad. There's really not much of anything that will get my hopes up for this. But all I need is one good shot of Comedian for a tattoo, and I'll be happy.

    The Dark Knight

No, there's no defense for saying it's the best movie. I heard people in the theater saying that, and they're impressionable fools.

I'd actually consider that the opposite of sad. What's the opposite of tragedy? COOOOOOMEDY!

    The Dark Knight

Oh yeah, I was also wondering who, if anyone, would have the stones/skill to try to play the Joker after Heath's performance. I came up with two answers: Johnny Depp and Daniel Day fucking Lewis.

One complaint: the Two Face make up was too much. Not that was cartoony.

    Alternate movie draft

Works for me. I'm way too lazy to run this... by the way, I'll update the list when I pick myself. I'm also going to stop including the year and the director, and just name the film, unless anyone strongly objects.

Milky would have said "Too bad you didn't die." Nighthawk won't say that.
