Give me info on these indy wrestlers
Phoenix Fury Legdrop replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Sabian - Little spot-monkey type from CZW who made a name for himself by rudely doing what every straight man wants to do, that being grabbing the plentiful ass of the Bouncing Bodacious Barefoot Big Booty Baby Becky Bayless. I heard he had a Chikara match with Joker that was excellent, but I haven't seen it yet. Larry Sweeney - I think he's that guy from the ?WA that Mikey Whipwreck ran that did the fisherman gimmick. Not sure though. Hallowicked - One of the more advanced students from the Chikara school. Relies more on the lucha-style submissions than a lot of other lucha-based indy workers these days. Watch out for his match against Rainman from the July 23rd "Tap Out City" IWA Mid-South show (now at SMV), tremendous stuff especially considering it was the first time either man had met in person, let alone wrestled each other. Excalibur - Funniest mofo ever. Pretty stylish, great commentator, and he just happens to be able to wrestle well too. Isn't that awesome? Disco Machine - Decent worker, nothing special. I do love the entrance though (making the referee and/or ring announcer hold a tiny disco ball over his head as he dances under it). Shawn Daivari - Not too good of a worker IMO, does the previously mentioned stereotypical Indian gimmick, including the Magic Carpet Ride. You could pass on this guy and not miss anything. -

Just for live perspective, Hero/Joe from 5/29 was the best match I've seen this year, just for the absolutely UNREAL atmosphere involved. As far as everything else I've seen on tape this year (and some I saw live and on tape): 1) Chris Hero/B-Boy (IWA-MS Simply the Best 5) 2) Homicide/American Dragon (ROH Reborn: Chicago) 3) Chris Hero/CM Punk (IWA-MS One More Time) 4) 2nd City Saints/Briscoes (ROH Reborn: Chicago) 5) Sydal & Delirious/Homicide & B-Boy (IWA-MS You've Gotta See This) 6) AJ Styles/Matt Sydal (IWA-MS Simply the Best 5) 7) Team Chismo & X-Foundation/Scorpio Sky-Chris Bosh-Quicksilver-Topgun Talwar-Charles Mercury (PWG 88 Miles Per Hour) 8) Chris Hero/Arik Cannon (April IWA Lafayette show) 9) Matt Sydal/Austin Aries (April IWA Lafayette Show) 10) CM Punk-BJ Whitmer-Samoa Joe/Chris Hero-B-Boy-Homicide (IWA-MS Volcano Girls) 11) Caprice Coleman/Rainman 2/3 Falls (Wildside TV from early-2004) 12) Samoa Joe/Jay Briscoe (ROH One More Time) 13) MsChif/Mickie Knuckles/Rain/Lacey/ODB/Daizee Haze (March IWA Highland Show) 14) Delirious/Matt Sydal (March Highland show) 15) Double Dragons/X-Foundation (PWG Tango & Cash Invitational)

I think so too. I honestly think that they're manipulating the footage to make all of us want Tim to ditch the whole Piper thing and go with Amanda at the end. If they are, they're doing one heck of a job at it. -
Most likely, I'll end up getting $40 seats, just because I've seem to become a front row regular since February.

::salutes Adam:: Thanks. I really do appreciate that, but I think you're being a little too nice with your props to me there, as I did act like a bit of a jerkwad to some people while impatiently waiting for them to write their stuff, since as many of you know, I basically took this tournament on as a project of my own. To those I was rather crabby to, I sincerely apologize (and you know who you are). And not to drag his name around again, but I did talk to Jay earlier, and he was really looking forward to this show. But, right around the time he was starting to write, he was being called in for twelve-hour work shifts, and plus he had those everyday matters in his personal life that everyone has to attend to, and simply didn't have enough time in the day to write his stuff. So, Jay tried, but he understandably put this as a low priority, and that's quite respectable. Adam was right, in that this tournament, like the Super X Cup, was my baby. I'm a major supporter of tournaments, being the uber-indy mark that I am. I thought it'd be kind of cool to pull off an "IWA", so to speak, and have the tournament stretch over two nights, much like IWA Mid-South's King of the Deathmatches used to (the KOTDM has since been retired as a tournament). However, I got to get it through my thick skull that we can't do everything here like it's done in the indies. So, since I took it on as my project, I should apologize for suggesting the two-night tournament idea, since it was obviously much better in concept than in execution. That being said, I thought we had some really good stuff at this show, which I'll go into in a second. Speaking of the Super X Cup though, I was going to suggest making the second one a sixteen-man field, much like the Ted Petty Invitational used to be. But, seeing as if we did have a lot of communication problems and other stuff around our first sixteen-man tournament, I think I might ask to get it moved to 12 or something low. I was also wanting to move it to December, since the February PPV should be concentrated on just flat out putting over Anglemania over balls to the walls. I also had another tournament concept I was wanting to do, that being an all-women's tournament. But, seeing as if we don't have nearly as many female characters as we do guys, and that one of the top characters in the main division is female, I don't think that'd really work. But, moving on...earlier in the post, I mentioned wanting to put some stuff over. I thought Drek/Cappa was badass, and NYU, every comment about Drek Stone being OAOAST Rookie of the Year that I made in the Drek/Sly match is something I believe, that you've come in and immediately became one to watch. Thanks for the quality stuff, man. Adam also wrote some good stuff with Gunner/Rick and Gunner/X, at a point where he obviously was squeezed for time with exams and such. Thanks for being able to set aside time from getting a college degree to write matches for an e-fed. I'm also going to put over Tony for helping institute what's becoming an excellent tag team division, as the final two tag matches on Night One were great. I'm always up for a good fresh-faced face tag team chasing after evil villains and their gold, and the GPX/Black T feud is just great for that. Thanks to everyone to put over Sly/Calvin, as that was the one match I probably put the most effort in, considering it's my feud at this point. Daredevil's Delight was a lot of fun to write, as I was able to forget about working body parts, being technically proficient, or making sure a bunch of hatred got across, as it was basically a bunch of cool moves, and as we all know, wrestling's all about cool moves... Thumbs up to you all, and as for those problems...this is the OAOAST; let's make a joke out of it!

The #indystructable mIRC room is gone; anyone know if there's a replacement? -
Okay, now that I think about it I think I was told that was the plan, but then the wires got crossed somewhere or... blah, I don't know. I don't know why Jay was assigned to a match he wasn't even in -- that makes little sense to me, but hindsight is twenty/twenty, I suppose. I did like the idea, though. But one of us definitely should have written it. Jay was assigned to it since he came up with the stipulations, and I think he was the only person involved in the whole thing who both understood his concept (Burning House of Death) or had the time.

Woolery said he's editing his stuff in now...so yeah.

Some random thoughts of mine from the July 31st IWA show (I'm lazy, so this is all you have to read from me): - Jimmy Jacobs selling the spikes that he carries around for the "Berserker" gimmick at the gimmick table is awesome. - Speaking of Jacobs, I didn't recognize him in the least bit for the first thirty seconds or so of his entrance. He got his hair cut short, was looking downward, and was wearing pajamas. With that being said, John Cusack f'n rules, and more gimmicks should be based around his characters in movies. - Nate Webb was using BADD BLASTERS (confetti guns that Johnny B. Badd used to use) for his entrance, and I for one loved it. Then again, it's probably because he ended up dropping one of them right in front of me, which I then picked up and took home, being the klepto that I am. - NO ONE saw the Steve Stone heel turn, or even his return, coming. There were people marking out for his return at first, until everyone saw that Stone was a nasty little man that hates Trik Davis a whole bunch. He beat the hell out of Trik Davis for a while before he got the LAMEST DISQUALIFICATION EVER for not pinning Trik after the modified Whiteout (Eight Second Ride). Ian then came out, as those two had one hell of a pull-apart brawl; quite the spectacle to see. - Women's four-way was fun, with Tracy Brooks in Allison Danger's role as "kind of evil brunette who MsChif totally hates", as they kept fighting each other after tags. Mickie Knuckles busted out an insane tope suicida, and Daizee almost killed herself doing an equally insane moonsault plancha. - Note to Highland fans: Delirious is a heel now, if you didn't hear. You can stop "Baaa"'ing at him now. - Delirious/Styles was good, but almost disappointing, at least in my opinion. Coming in, I totally thought this match was going to be better than the amazing Styles/Sydal match from Simply the Best 5, because I personally think Delirious is better than Matt, and the heel/face factor would exist in this match. It was a little slower than some people would imagine, though I usually like slower-paced matches. But still, there was still some cool stuff in this match. AJ just about killed Delirious by dropping him from a gorilla press position gut-first on the ringpost late in the match. Kid Kash running in for the finish was a big surprise, but not all surprises are necessarily great. I can love Kash sometimes, but I wasn't in line to see him debut in IWA Mid-South. At least we know that Ian can book TNA's storylines better than TNA can. - With the temperature difference between outside the building and inside, I almost expected a cloud to form and for it to start raining at the door. - Nigel & Collyer/Bradley & Boz was ten times better than their Simply the Best match, and I personally really enjoyed that match. Bradley and Boz were awesome here, as just about everyone in that place seemed to buy that we were going to have new tag champs. Nigel and Boz had one exchange on the outside that was quite brutal and heated, involving tossing each other into chairs. In the end, Bradley clobbers Collyer with a clothesline, and that's all she wrote. I'm begging for this at next month's Highland show: B'n'B vs. Tank and Iceberg...that'd complete the already amazing-looking card for that show. - Punk/Sydal was really quite good, with Punk working the leg like a demon in heat on Sydal's leg to prevent any flippy-flippy action after being outwrestled early on in the match. Sydal was tremendous in selling the knee as well. Good match, but a certain "Dragon" blew it out of the water later. - The Sabu/Daniels/Kash three-way was...well, it was chaotic, but not necessarily in a good way. I usually don't like three-way matches anyway, since they just about don't make sense in concept or in action. Sabu either f'd up his tailbone or his leg when he didn't go through the table with his legdrop attempt. Let's just move on... - Cannon/Danielson is MUST-FUCKING-SEE, period. Even with all of his great matches with Chris Hero, I honestly think that this is Arik Cannon's best match ever. It was so unreal, just watch it for yourselves. Dragon versus Hero is THE match I've been waiting for more than just about anything on the indies ever, so I'm SO f'n there. - After taking an intermission to fix the ring (the same part that broke on the ring last month broke again when Dragon nailed a huge superplex late in his match), Alex Shelley and Petey Williams came out and had a hell of a match. It wasn't as good as Danielson/Cannon, but just barely. Shelley was SO freakin' great working the arm. Then again, it's Alex Shelley: does anyone expect any less? Shelley got the first fall with the Border City Stretch early, but Petey came back to get Fall Two with a Sharpshooter. No Canadian Destroyer though, as Shelley reversed it with a backdrop that Petey reversed with a sunset flip to retain his belt. This more than made up for last month. - Pondo/Klein was a Pondo match: people stood around, bled, and bumped through stuff. It was late by the time this one started, and I wasn't necessarily looking forward to it. Toby Klein rules, but Pondo....yeah. Klein got the win, which rules, but Pondo challenges him to a Fan Participation Strap Match for next month. Jeff Lewis and Jacey North had one of these in Wildside a couple of months back, and I still don't think Lewis's back has turned back to its normal color. Overall, it was a really good show. It started a little iffy, though fun, with the three-way, but the last two regular matches were TREMENDOUS, and well worth getting the tape for. Buy this one, along with last Friday's show (which I think will go down along with the April Lafayette show, as one of the unheralded great shows of the post-Clarksville era), and maybe get one of those swank Arik Cannon t-shirts while you're at it.

I was thinking about buying the Freaks & Geeks DVD set at Best Buy before going to IWA tomorrow, but I was wanting to get a second opinion on them. So, to anyone who has them, are they worth buying?

This better not mean anything bad regarding AJ not being at IWA tomorrow. -
Night Two of the TPI includes my favorite non-Hero match of CM Punk's ever (quarterfinals vs. Christopher Daniels), Jimmy Rave's breakout match outside of Wildside against Chris Hero, a very enjoyable four-way between AJ Styles, M-Dogg20, Matt Stryker, and Super Dragon, a great Punk/Hero match, the last three enjoyable BJ Whitmer matches, and a really sound Cabana/Mondo match in the first round, as well as some violent violence at the end with the Hardcore Gauntlet.
