Phoenix Fury Legdrop replied to Phoenix Fury Legdrop's topic in Brandon Truitt

Needed: IZ Cruiserweight for HD on New Year's Eve
Phoenix Fury Legdrop posted a topic in Brandon Truitt
I can't release many details, but there's plans for a big X Division Title match on HeldDOWN~! on New Year's, and we're taking the first IZ guy who wrestles X-Style who wants to be in on it. PM me or Nice Guy Adam if you want in. Thomas -
From Lafayette, Indiana, at the National Guard Armory.... I got in 45 minutes late due to shitty directions, but I gathered that Jimmy Jacobs won Match #3 of their series in the opener, with a camel clutch in a submission match, BJ Whitmer defeated Matt Sydal, and I think Mickey Knuckles beat Daizee Hayes, though the last two are total assumptions. Came in at the end of Cannon vs. Delirious, which Arik (w/ a new manager at ringside, didn't catch his name) won with the Total Anarchy, aka a second-rope Hero Sandwich/Catatonic. Alex Shelley regained his WXW German Title in Match #4 of their series, second match of the night for them, beating Jimmy Jacobs in a lumberjack match, after Michael Shane interfered with a superkick. Shelley's back and Jacobs's neck were the weakened parts of the bodies for the night, if I recall correctly. Danny Daniels d. "Metalhead" Steve Stone to retain the IWA-MS World Title. Real good stuff here, with Stone really getting put over as a big-time player in the IWA, getting a couple of visual falls on the champ before being put away with two piledrivers in a row. B-Boy d. Ian Rotten in a really good technical match. Not as much stiff stuff as you'd expect, but the mat work was amazing. B-Boy took out Ian's knee so Ian couldn't toss B-Boy around and use his power advantage well. Finish, I think, was a cross armbreaker, which makes sense since B-Boy did work over Ian's arm in between the legwork. Ian put over B-Boy big-time on the mic post-match. Brad Bradley & Ryan Boz d. JC Bailey and mystery partner Madman Pondo. Bradley & Boz destroyed the TOTAL FUCK out of Bailey in this match...bootscrapes, big boots, you name it, he got killed. Fannin was even taking requests for new ways to destroy Bailey on commentary. Funny bit where, after Pondo breaks legit National Guard Armory rules and uses his stop sign, Fannin grabs his cell phone and calls the cops to try and get the show shut down. Bailey's face didn't look too great post-match, especially after the double horse-collar face eraser from B'n'B. Jimmy Jacobs d. Alex Shelley to regain the WXW German Title under Texas Death rules in Match #5 of the series, now putting the series at 3-2: Shelley. Shelley attacked Jacobs during his entrance, and the first five minutes or so was Shelley destroying Jacobs on the floor. They used a shitload of chairs, and Jacobs took quite a beating with them, including a spot where his head was laid down on a chair, and a folder chair was on top of his head, and Shelley came off the top with a brutal double-stomp onto Jacobs's head. Becky Bayless jumped on Shelley's back late in the match to try and stop him from powerbombing Jimmy through a set of chairs, and Shelley gave her a Shellshock for her troubles. Finish was Jimmy giving Shelley the Contra Code through two set-up chairs, facing each other. Great match. (Note: the commentary during this match with Danny Daniels & Jim Fannin ripping on Jimmy for being gay and Becky for supposedly being promiscuous is HILARIOUS.) NWA-TNA X Champion Michael Shane d. "Spyder" Nate Webb. Webb did not disappoint with his entrance, even getting his own extreme close-up by the commentary table (and right in front of me and my buddy Nathan) to dance, and then Ian danced with Nate, even diping him to the crowd's pleasure. Shane refused to dance with Nate, which makes him a giant poophead. Nate did some flying early on, so Shane worked over Nate's knee during the body of the match. Cool finish with both guys blocking each other's kicks, leading to Shane flipping Nate in mid-air by the foot, and it looked like he stiffed Nate with the superkick on his way down. Killer-looking finish, and Shane looked better here than all his TNA stuff that I've seen, and a lot of his ROH stuff. In the main event, Chris Hero d. AJ Styles with a modified crossface, with a cravate inserted. I'd tie it with the Shelley/Jacobs Texas Death Match as MOTN, though this definately has a case for being better. AJ looked better here than a lot of his stuff in a while, playing subtle heel and working over Hero's knee like a hawk. Great finishing sequence, with Hero being able to scout the national star Styles enough to escape the Styles Clash at every twist and turn, and using a new version of his Hangman's Clutch finisher to deviate from what he usually does, which AJ could have scouted on tape, and score the victory. Post-match, AJ puts over Hero on the mic, but Michael Shane comes out, and Shane and Styles go back and forth on the mic. Shane teases battling Styles right then and there, but heads to higher ground until tomorrow night in Highland, where he faces AJ. Great freaking show, better than last month. The Shelley/Jacobs series (from what I saw, since I missed match #1), B-Boy/Ian, and Hero/Styles alone would be worth it, but there was nothing that was outright below "good". Excellent show, and I really hope you get it for yourselves on tape when SMV releases it. Next Lafayette show is the 31st of January; no matches announced tonight. Attendance was announced at around 70. Thomas

IWA Mid-South Winter Wars 2003 Results
Phoenix Fury Legdrop replied to Phoenix Fury Legdrop's topic in General Wrestling
The selling of the knee by Hero was tremendous. He kept selling the knee like Styles was chopping it off slowly. Styles really did a ton of the little things on the kneework right, and broke out a couple of new things to go after the knee. There wasn't a ton of the "Hero gets so pumped up that he forgets about his knee being hurt" stuff that gets argued over a lot online, especially during London's match with American Dragon. Personally, and this might be more of a "live vs. tape" perspective, but Hero/Styles was slightly better. -

Unholy Communion vs. AJ Flaire, Mad Matt, and Jeremy Red Plus an announcement about a special multi-week event, brought to you by the X Division. -
Nine-age, definately. Random thought: anyone else find it funny that on the same show, we have both puppy love and a domestic dispute?

In their debut, St. Andrew's Minions (Andrew & Nathaniel) vs. Mark Starr & "Jumpin'" Joey Maggs

El Viejo d. ????? (Came in late) Nate Webb d. Arik Cannon (little spotty, but fun) Trik Davis d. Casanova Boz & Bradley d. Bad Breed & Lancasters (Fannin let Lancasters enter after they mocked both teams for being too small, so all four guys beat the holy hell out of the Lancasters, including a spot where Ian stretching Jason's mouth out, then used one hand to pick Jason's nose, and then put the boogers in Jason's mouth; then after Lancasters got eliminated, pier-six brawl with BB vs. Chicago guys, long post-match promo by Ian to set up next month (look at bottom) Chris Hero d. Steve Stone (MOTN, imo; Stone worked over Hero's throat to attack his cardio so he could gas out Hero for the win, but Hero came back, including doing a standing Hangman's clutch, and won with the regular one; Ian promo afterwards putting over both, more at bottom) JC Bailey d. Sonjay Dutt to retain IWA LW Title, 2 falls to 1 (First fall, Opie (new dude, red hair, pale) reffed, Bailey wins in 40 seconds. Then, he "messed up" a call where Sonjay got an illegal win. So, Ian fired him, and replaced him with Nate Webb, who did the Horshack bit with the raising his hand on commentary. After Nate reffed the second fall (which Sonjay won with a 450), MICKAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY (who served me a hot dog & Pepsi at the concession stand, btw) got called out for the third fall, which JC won with a Northern Lights Bomb. Sonjay put over JC on the mic post-match) Balls Mahoney NC Corp. Robinson (straight wrestling to start, but Corp. turned it into a friendly brawl, including a SICK unprotected chairshot from Balls to Corp.; Super Mean (Daniels & Whitmer) come out, spike piledrove Balls onto the concrete (while both Mickey & Corp. are out cold), and Balls can't continue. Corp. makes challenges for next month, more at bottom) Danny Daniels d. Nigel McGuiness to retain IWA-MS Heavyweight Title (comedy opening, with Fannin burying Nigel during the introductions ("Introducing, the Challenger...who has no chance of winning tonight...", then Danny gets frustrated at Nigel out-wrestling him. Danny isn't tall enough to do the Greco-Roman knucklelock, so he went up top and locked in the G-R Knucklelock with Nigel, then Nigel let go and Danny fell on his face. Rest of the match was Danny working over the neck and back of Nigel, ending with long Guerrero/Malenko sequence, ending with Danny nailing a piledriver for the win. Fannin & Daniels celebrate, show closes with Ian telling us to spread the word). Attendance was announced by Ian as 47, I believe. Matches for Next Month: AJ Styles vs. Chris Hero B-Boy vs. Ian Rotten Brad Bradley & Ryan Boz vs. Sandman & Axl Rotten Corporal Robinson vs. Danny Daniels & Jim Fannin (I think it was announced as "No Rules", mic wasn't too clear) Worth buying on tape; no DP on commentary, however.

IWA-MS results from Lafayette

December 19th and PsychoDriver, if you haven't seen Ian Rotten in the past 18 months or so, Ian/B-Boy might sound a little weird. But, like has been reiiterated so much in the past, he's a totally changed worker. -

Same with Sly, though it's obvious, and making this possibly the most pointless post in this thread. Oh well.

If anyone: a) has Left Front Tire's "The Answer Song" on their computer, or b) has Left Front Tire's "42 Ways To Lose a Friend" CD, which includes this song, and can make the mp3 could you please let me know so I can somehow acquire it from you? Thanks.

This one is even more awesome in its vengefulness and truth than the great ROH rant I posted on here months ago from Dan Wilson's column. It's from NWA Wildside's ring announcer Jason Martin, from his "Walk on the Wildside" column on the Wildside message board. You have to scroll down a little, but it's there, and you'll notice. Thank Sal SOMEONE gets it.... Click here, maaaaan.

Zack, I think we're going with Sly vs. Matt, non-title.

Tremendous ROH Rant I found...
Phoenix Fury Legdrop replied to Phoenix Fury Legdrop's topic in General Wrestling
I knew I said I wasn't coming back, but I've got to defend Sal here. Naylor, Sal may do a headdrop with the PFL and the Whattamanuever every once in a while, but he sure as hell isn't one of those scrambled eggs that bounce off the walls at each ROH show. I'll give you Luke, since, last I saw him, the feud with Sal where he worked slower, much better-paced matches than his usual speed, didn't seem to help his spotmonkey nature at all. But Sal is in no way, shape, or form a spot boy. Outside of the ladder match at Freedom Fight 2003, I haven't seen him do a match with too much of that crazy, contrived spot wackiness in a long time. Heck, I remember at least one Wildside episode where he was doing guest commentary, and made a few really funny jokes mocking that style (something along the lines of "Kool and Slim J aren't dropping each other on their heads....just give them a few minutes; THEN they'll be breaking each other's necks!"). Just thought I'd leave with that instead of my admitted tantrum-like, frustrated rant. -
Tremendous ROH Rant I found...
Phoenix Fury Legdrop replied to Phoenix Fury Legdrop's topic in General Wrestling
PFL- next time you post a rant calling it tremendous- make sure it's coherent first. You don't have to worry about that, Bad Boy Bobby Barron. In fact, you don't have to worry about me posting here AT ALL. I'm sick and fucking tired of all you fucking clapmonkeys creaming over a "technical masterpiece" despite the fact that there's no damn reason to give a flying crap because (insert random guy here) won a four-way, and gets to have his head kicked off by Samoa Joe, and then shakes hands out of RESPECT. There are things I like about Ring Of Honor, but the whole "lack of any emotion whatso-fucking-ever" thing is the number one reason why I don't like ROH. They try to be way too "high-concept", but you can't be high-concept unless you actually use the original concept as its ground base. I have no respect for an organization that prides itself on disrespecting the tradition and value of what wrestling was meant to be. Wrestling was based upon two guys who get so pissed off about something that they just have to kick the living shit out of each other; not some "battle of technique or smarts waltz". If I wanted to watch two guys perform their sport because of "respect for the title" or "athletic competition", I'd watch...you know, an actual, non-worked athletic competition. Hell, I'd probably get more emotional value out of it too. Just to let you know, from exchanging e-mails, Jason did read the thread, and he finds just about every "point" brought up here to be pretty ridiculous. Ridiculous, in the sense that every single reply echoed and reinforced the very reason that the rant was written in the first place, and the reason they will continue to be. But he's glad debate was sparked either way. I know this will be followed up with 20 "blah blah blah, (insert member of Special K) DOES show emotion when he does his flippity-do-has...until he realizes someone just dropped him on his head, so he must no-sell" or "ROH respect tradition, because they brought Jim Cornette in for some shows, or they're bringing in Roddy Piper". My response? None, basically. Hell, I doubt I'll read it. Unless this idea me, Jay, and McGovern had actually hatches, the "IWC" and me will basically become strangers, and thank goodness for it. Zack, Dames, whoever...ban me, PLEASE. Not like it matters to me, but hey, at least I got to bash the ROH 'Tards before I left. -
Wheels on Degrassi: TNG

Not sure about the original, but TNG did a two-parter based on rape. -
Actually, I get the Indiana Beach line(Crawfordsville native, about an hour's drive or so from Indy, northeast I think, though I never a) pay attention to maps or b) stay awake during car rides there.).

Well if it makes anybody feel better
Phoenix Fury Legdrop replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in The WWE Folder
They worked CM Punk and some other guy from Afa's school in Pennsylvania. I read an interview recently with Punk (at the ROH mark board) where he said, after the match, the road agents yelled at Hawk and Animal like they were rookies over doing a (safe) belly-to-belly suplex to Punk. -
Onyx defeated Hotstuff Hernandez in the main event of NWA Wildside's Fright Night 2003 event, in the Cage of Horrors (cage filled with weapons of destruction). All else that I know results-wise is that Rainman defeated AJ Styles (I think clean) and Jeremy V. and Brandon P. retained their Wildside Tag Team Titles over Todd Sexton & Masada. Unfortunately, Azrael apparantly got hurt on a spot where he fell right on top of his head. I'm sure Larry Goodman's report tomorrow will go more in-depth.
