    Opening acts

Ben Kweller opened up for Ben Folds at Wabash College back in February. I only paid $5 to get in, but Kweller wasn't even worth that. I really dig his studio work, but he was the SHITS that night. He seemed completely drunk and not in condition to be on stage and he was big into playing 1/4th of a song, then stopping and screaming something inaudiable about partying. Example: "Here's a little ditty I really enjoy. (plays five notes of cover of "Heart-Shaped Box" by Nirvana)...nah, I don't wanna play that anymore. Who here's going out and getting wasted after the show?! (morons cheer)" By the way, the five notes he played during "Heart-Shaped Box" were the only ones he played the whole night. The rest of the time, he'd strum as hard as he can instead of playing any actual notes/chords on his acoustic guitar, and the songs only seemed recognizable by the lyrics. Thankfully, Ben Folds is an awesome live act, or else it would have been a shitty night. I heard Kweller from a-far at Lollapalooza this year; he actually sounded decent. Then again, it was 4 PM and he had a full band behind him.

Surprisingly good? Considering the three guys involved, it was shockingly average.

No, that's Mickie Knuckles, who I really wish would get around to more places besides IWA & Chikara.

    Ted Petty Invitational 2005

Um...why? It's not like she's tiny and dainty...she's a big, strong girl. And I'd believe her beating the living crap out of a guy like Jimmy Jacobs than some of the guys (including Matt Sydal, who looked like he was going to be Jimmy's successor for a while).

You mean the "Highlanders"? Otherwise, someone in that company needs a lesson in Scottish culture.

    Velocity Report *spoilers*

That sounds incredibly sweet if it's the move I'm thinking of. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's "Stampede Kid" TJ Wilson's finisher. He calls it the Rolling Stampede. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's done it at IWA before...it's basically a Finley Roll swanton. I believe he calls it the Ken-Ton Bomb.

    IWA-MS 8/19 matches...Necro vs. Homicide!

Not really...in terms of the whole hard-hitting, strong style department, Strong's got a reputation that ranks probably right below Joe. I figure they'll say Necro took this match to prepare for the Samoa Joe rematch in September.

    IWA Takes HUGE Blow

Ian Rotten responded on the IWA Mid-South message board... Looks like Whitmer refused to job to the Iron Saints in the originally-scheduled match at the IWA show (Whitmer & Jacobs/Thomasellis) based on the fact that him & Jimmy are the ROH Tag Team Champions.

    Lame finisher names

It Came from Japan is a Straight Jacket Northern Lights bomb. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "It Came From Japan" was named after a Von Bondies song, and Shelley's a huge Von Bondies fan (as he should be; they're a very good band).

Somewhat of a Lollapalooza Report-type thing

Hey...I suffered through the ridiculous heat and sunniness in Chicago this weekend for the big Lollapalooza festival (so ridiculous, in fact, that Sara from Tegan & Sara passed out during their set). But, it was worth it. Seriously, outside of the Redwalls and Dashboard Confessional, there wasn't one set I saw that I didn't like. Hell, I HATEFULLY LOATHE the Killers' CD, but I thought they probably had one of the best shows of the weekend. The Kaiser Chiefs were a band I hadn't really been paying attention to before I went...and ended up being a band I want to see live again and again. AWESOME set. There was also a really neat acoustic set with Perry Farrell and Peter Distefano from Porno for Pyros on the Kidzapalooza stage, including a new song about dolphins called "Aqua" that made just about no sense. In terms of the people there...Primus fans are so much fun to be around, unless you're actually with them. Smelly, disgusting, stoned hippies who liked dancing. You haven't lived until you've seen a hippie chorus line for "My Name is Mud". I also got hugged by a hippie last night that was there to see Widespread Panic who wandered into the Killers' set. The drunks...they were drunks. Awesome Billy Idol story: I stood through Dashboard's set to get a good position for Idol's (they played the same stage back-to-back, with an hour in between). Anyway, I ended up front row, almost center. Idol comes out, HYOOOOOOOGE ovation for him. About halfway through the set, he hops down to the media pit ledge thingy with three drumsticks in hand. He walks around and throws one out into the crowd. He then grabs the second one and walks to our section. He dangles it out in front of everyone near-by...then lightly tosses it, and it lands right in my hand. I look down, and it's autographed. So yeah...that was sweet. He also had a habit of lifting up his shirt to show off his abs and snarl at my friend's girlfriend, effectively making my friend jealous, which was also fun. But yeah...if anyone has any other Lolla questions, just ask away.

Somewhat of a Lollapalooza Report-type thing

Nope, no G. Love. He went on during the "laying down to avoid passing out from heatstroke" period on Sunday. I did hear a little of the Arcade Fire's set (they were up against him), and they sounded really great. G. Love did bring a shitload of merchandise to sell at the Lolla Store tent. The "BOOTY CALL" women's underwear that was being sold for G. Love, from what I heard, was the least-selling merchandise of the weekend.

Somewhat of a Lollapalooza Report-type thing

Nah, they played during Weezer, and we wanted to see all of Weezer's set we could before leaving early to get back on the train for home to sleep for the night. I had some friends who saw him at Warped in Indianapolis. Said there was a lot of negative reaction to his set, especially from the young'uns.

Why is Samoa Joe in the X Division?

Jarrett's wrestled everyone from Terry Funk to Vader, I doubt that Joe can do anything to him he hasn't experienced before. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> According to Steve Corino's ROH shoot, Jarrett backed out of an NWA World Title defense against Shinya Hashimoto because of his stiff striking, and ended up raising political hell through Bob Ryder to try and get out of a tag match where Samoa Joe was on the other end before finally making Zero-One up his plane ticket to Business Class in order to get him in for the match.

    Whatever Happened To...

He's big on the Japanese-style mat wrestling, as opposed to British-style mat wrestling or lucha-style mat wrestling. Doesn't really fly (and never really did, outside of his frog splash), and he'd be a laughable "powerhouse".
