Since I've Been Loving You is the most tedious song on that album. Otherwise, it's probably their best, although I'm only vaguely interested in Led Zeppelin.
The Magnetic Fields did a version of Heroes, too. It sounds like most of their early work, but I don't mind, the sound suits the song well enough.
Still, I don't really think people should be covering Heroes. Resist your urges.
A warning - one of the best songs on the new album is the thunderous 'Mama lay softly on the riverbed'. So enjoy that one.
Great song. I think he's gonna lose it the most to National Front Disco, though.
I'm going to make a new list of ten favorite songs without even looking at my old one. In no order:
Nico - I'll Keep It With Mine
Galaxie 500 - Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste
Guided By Voices - Blimps Go 90
Guided By Voices - Smothered In Hugs
Beat Happening - Tiger Trap
The Magnetic Fields - Papa Was A Rodeo
Roy Orbison - In Dreams
The Modern Lovers - Government Center
Mickey & Sylvia - Love Is Strange
The Left Banke - Walk Away Renee
Plastic Ono Band is more cathartic, which probably makes it less hopeless and sad ultimately. As for which one is the better album? Hard to say. Nebraska is a stronger collection of songs, but very few albums provide as intense an emotional experience as POB.
They've been using that same ad campaign for years. I'm not sure the economy has anything to do with it.
Maybe Kansas is just in a permanent state of peculiar depression.
