I Quit Blockbuster A Month Ago

Another customer line story: When I worked at a theater, we usually had two people to a register at the concession stands during weekends. Well, whenever I was working concession (which SUCKED) I would always have the other person take the order while I put the order together. My reasoning behind this was simple. 1) I hate customers. 2) The person working with me was usually some high-school kid that I had senority over and I could do what I wanted. 3) Since the high-school kids usually only worked weekends my partner had a better chance of getting a myster shopper and making an extra $50. Anyway, my anal manager got on my case one night because he said that I wasn't doing any of the work and that we needed to work as a "team." I responded "Oh, like that?" and pointed over to the register next to us, where both cashiers were working on separate orders, running into each other and voiding each other's order because one would get done with his customer first but the other cashier already had his order rung up on the register. Of course this is the same manager that one afternoon ran a reel of BASEKETBALL instead of the kid's movie MADELINE to a packed house of little kids and their soccer moms...

    Fox News sues Franken

It has nothing to do with FNC or Al, but I suddenly remembered this story from scanning recent posts regarding this thread and figured if someone didn't know about this laughable lawsuit they do now... http://advertising.about.com/library/weekl...y/aa040301a.htm "Better ingredients. Better pizza." Papa John's claims its pizza is "better" than Pizza Hut's. It's a claim Pizza Hut didn't take lightly. In fact, the company's lawyers filed a federal false advertising lawsuit against Papa John's. This on-going battle actually began in 1998. But the U.S. Supreme Court recently put this case to rest, turning down Pizza Hut's appeal. The problem stemmed from Papa John's famous slogan, coupled with a national advertising campaign. One of the ads stated Papa John's "won big time" in taste tests over Pizza Hut. Other ads in the campaign alleged Papa John's sauce and dough were better than Pizza Hut's because they were made with fresh tomatoes and filtered water. That ad campaign prompted Pizza Hut to file the false advertising lawsuit. The company's lawyers said they had scientific evidence proving Papa John's ingredients didn't affect the pizza's taste. Initially, a jury sided with Pizza Hut agreeing that Papa John's claims of better sauce and dough were false or misleading. The judge ordered Papa John's to stop using the "Better ingredients. Better pizza" slogan and awarded Pizza Hut $467,619 in damages. Jurors in that trial were asked if the ads were likely to deceive the consumer. But a federal appeals court later said the jurors were never asked if consumers relied on Papa John's "better" claims when deciding what pizza to buy. So last September, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the verdict and ruled in favor of Papa John's. There's heavy competition in the pizza world, especially between Pizza Hut and Papa John's. Pizza Hut maintains the number one position, followed by Domino's and then Papa John's. But the heated competition is between Pizza Hut and Papa John's. Apparently, their rivalry is so fierce, Pizza Hut reserves any phone numbers that spell out the letters P-A-P-A...just so Papa John's can't get them. The better-best argument also affects the results of this case. You've seen commercials where a company claims to have the "best" thingamajig. "Best" can be used without having to backup your statement. When you use "better," you "better" have proof to substantiate your claim. Papa John's adamantly denies Pizza Hut's false advertising charges. The company's lawyers maintain the statements made in the ad campaign aren't false, but are merely statements of personal taste. Lawyers for Pizza Hut said Papa John's ads violate federal law. They claim even without evidence that customers relied on the "Better ingredients. Better pizza" slogan to base their pizza-buying decision, Papa John's ad campaign is deceptive. Pizza Hut execs say the decision is unfair to both consumers and responsible advertisers.
  3. OK, long story short. In Pittsburgh, PA, there’s this scam the government runs called an Occupational Privilege Tax. Every year anyone that works within the Pittsburgh area, and makes more than $1,000 per year, has to cough up $10 for the “privilege” of working in the region. Having recently moved back to the area, although not in the Pittsburgh region, I have read that due to the financial troubles of the city, there’s talk of raising this tax to $52 a year -- $1 per week for the "privilege" of working there. Anyway, I was wondering if any other areas run such a racket – people not from the area that I explain this tax to walk away with shaking heads and dropped jaws. I’m sure other places have this practice, but I’m too lazy to find out. If your place has a goofy tax on something, give it a shout-out as well…

I Quit Blockbuster A Month Ago

My only comment to this is how I hate it when bosses bitch about not getting customers out fast enough, then bitching when you herd them through like cattle to keep the line moving. When I worked as a cashier my policy was to treat others as I wanted to be treated. This of course meant getting people through ASAP. Of course you had those idiot customers that would re-arrange their purses after the purchases. I would just wait on the next customer and that person would shove aside the previous person. Ahhh, memories...

Yep. Come on FNC -- you're better than this. Get some reporters on the case of Franken's history and smear him the way only Big Media can do...
  9. Yep, he mentioned it when you were "away." So of course you have to take anything he says about Howie with a grain of salt since he's making money to pimp Mr. Dean...

    Arnold taking questions.......

Oh, so now Rush says not to vote for Arnold? (BTW: I knew that beforehand as well, but thanks for pointing this out, seriously. However, in my opinion I don't think Rush is "vehemently" against him. Rather he's just in the Arnold's-not-a-true-conservative camp.) But O'Reilly likes him! Whatever should I do?...

    Arnold taking questions.......

From what I've read he seems like a fiscally conservative/socially liberal guy. But since he has that "R" next to him I guess I should vote for him -- Rush and O'Reilly told me too. Oh, and here's what I said in the thread dealing with Arnold's Leno appearance: <<<Woldn't mind seeing Arnold throw Flynt out of his wheelchair. I'd put Arnold in the same category as Rudy Giulani and Bloomberg regarding "conservative" credentials, although I'd take Arnold over Mikey anyday. I am so not looking forward to the "Total Recall" headlines that are going to be even MORE frequent in the months ahead. Oh, and Vyce: LOL CLINTON NEWS NETWORK...>>> Good thing when I blew my load over him the jizz didn't hit my computer screen...

    Arnold taking questions.......

I guess it's helpful that you have such low standards, then. It seems all that it takes to get your vote is having an "R" next to your name. Hey dipshit, I was making a joke. And for the record, I have voted for people with the "D" right next to it. I remember you calling me ignorant a while back -- look whose talking...
