Anyone ordered/received the new NWA-TNA DVD's?
res37618 replied to res37618's topic in TNA Wrestling
Apparently, each is a two-disc set, totalling four hours + of matches, uncut. -
Don't know about Walgreens, but our CVS Pharmacies here in northeast TN had quite the variety of WWF DVD's at 9.99 each - got WM 18, SummerSlam 2001, Vengeance 2001, and WWF Action! I assumed that it was all because of the WWF scratch logo as well.

OK . . . in looking at the DVD calendar included with my No Mercy '03 DVD, it appears that WWE has changed the "Monday Night Wars" DVD to the "Rise and Fall of WCW". Now, assuming that the disc will have extra matches (and assuming it's only a one-disc release), what exactly will be included as "extras" for the DVD? Here's what I think: Hogan vs. Goldberg (Goldy wins WCW title) A match from the first WCW Nitro (either Flair/Sting or Hogan/Big Bubba) Sting vs. Hogan (Starrcade '97) Chris Benoit vs. Sid Vicious (Benoit wins vacant WCW title, leaves next day) Flair vs. Sting (last WCW Nitro) Not the world's greatest matches, but 5 matches which kinda truly fall into place when talking about the "Rise and Fall" of WCW. What do you guys think?

OK, with all the fuss over blurring the WWF Scratch Logo and so forth, do you think that Vince and Co. will go through the trouble of issuing a WrestleMania DVD Box Set? I would figure that with WM XX coming up, it would soon be the perfect time to release the WM's on DVD. What I wouldn't give to have the WrestleManias in all their perfect VQ glory . . . . Will it happen? Would you buy it? Let's hear your thoughts . . . .
-
I didn't think about that, but that's a really good point. 15-19 are already on DVD, so they wouldn't have to do them. Plus, 15-18 are the only ones with the scratch logo, so no need to redo them . . . .
-
I actually thought the WWF Action! DVD was pretty cool . . not so much for the highlight clips, but for the "extras" (7 matches total) , like Angle/Austin from RAW (early '01), the Rock/Austin cage match from the night after X-7, Angle defeating Booker T for the WCW title on RAW, and so forth. Not a bad collection of extra matches, if I do say so myself.

Got my Flair DVD today, and I must say WOW . . this is, by far, one of the best investments a wrestling fan could make. BTW, anyone still looking for it, I ordered mine from a website called Overstock.com . . . got it for $21.39 - that's WAY cheaper than FYE or Best Buy or any of the "chain" entertainment stores. I refuse to pay the money that Amazon wants for their DVD's - they "claim" to have such a great deal, but you can always beat their price if you just look around a bit. Anyway, I've watched the first disk so far, and the definite highlight is the Flair/Windham WorldWide match. It is absolutely great, and the promos/highlights package leading up to the match itself is just too good.

I ordered mine from BestPrices.com, and received an email yesterday (10/24) that it has shipped, so I should probably get it on Monday or Tuesday. They had it for $17.28 plus $2.98 shipping (no tax was charged), so after all is said and done, I paid $20.26 for it. Can't wait 'til it gets here, I'm sure I'll be marking out watching Magnum/Blanchard in all its "perfect video quality" glory. Tell me, are the ring entrances/introductions cut out on any of the matches?
-
Yep, she's absolutely right. If you've lost interest enough to need "convincing" in order to stay a fan, then just quit watching. While I'll admit there's a lot I don't like in the current product, I also fully realize that on the "roller coaster" of wrestling popularity, it always hits its peaks and valleys. And you may not think so, but this "valley" is far less severe than others (we could travel back in time to '95 if you'd like) :-) So watch if you want to, don't watch if you think it sucks. Me . . . . I'm gonna keep watching, the good usually outweighs the bad, and being a die-hard fan, it's hard for me NOT to pay attention.
-
Give the casual fans some credit. They broke the addiction and HAVEN'T been turning in for the past two years because of the amount of bullshit on the screen. These little 3.2s are by all of us hardcores who just keep watching no matter what the hell they're fighting over. Agreed. Admit it, most of us "hardcore fans" would watch RAW even if it was Mark Henry and Rosey fighting over the last steak at Golden Corral.
-
Amen. I'm not the biggest fan of the guy either, but if Hogan can provide NWA:TNA with just a little more mainstream publicity, and help them in any way be in line for a possible TV deal in the future, then I'm all for it. WWE needs a little competition, and while TNA may always play second fiddle, ANY competition is better than no competition.
-
OMG, don't give him any ideas - it may happen!
-
You're absolutely right. Listen, I've kinda liked the brand extension as much as anyone else - it's made Smackdown! a much more enjoyable show (with Guerrero, Benoit, Lesnar, Angle - how could it not be?) - but even I can admit that when it comes to the "casual fan", they may be a little upset or confused as to why they can't see Angle on Raw, or Goldberg on Smackdown. It's this simple - if VinnieMac doesn't want Raw to suck so bad, he may just have to realize that the Smackdown "Fab Four" is the answer. And if he wants to bring more casual viewers to Smackdown, then showcasing Goldberg or HHH may just be what it needs. I'm as tired of HHH as anyone else, but you have to realize that the casual fan may not feel the same way. The biggest thing I don't like is how the brand split is watering down most of the PPV's - As good as Vengeance was, it was nothing more than a glorified episode of Smackdown with a different set. And Bad Blood and Unforgiven were just dreadful. The only contenders Brock has on SD! right now are Undertaker, Angle, and possibly Big Show. I mean, they're doing Brock/UT at No Mercy again this year, when it's already been done TWICE last year. I though the brand extension was supposed to elevate new talent, not just give us the same old stuff we've always had. Pure and simple, the brand split is completely limiting the number of feuds and potential matchups by saying "OK, you guys can only work with THESE people over here" and vice versa. Jericho and RVD could be having great matches with Eddie Guererro and Benoit, the tag team division could heat back up, and so forth. So, yes. The brand split should be ended. It's causing more harm than good, and unless they shake up the rosters, then just imagine. What are we gonna be seeing one year from now. If the rosters don't change, or the shows aren't merged back together, then the answer is simple . . . we'll be seeing Brock/UT at No Mercy 2004, and HHH/Goldberg STILL feuding over a meaningless World title (c'mon . . the REAL WWE title lineage is on Smackdown, pure and simple) Now that I've rambled incoherently, let's see how badly I get crucified
-
OK, that crap really gets old . . . I was ready to see HHH lose the World title too, but you morons that keep wishing life-threatening injuries on people are just complete idiots. If you don't want to watch him, and are tired of seeing him in WWE, then I've got some advice for you - - - QUIT WATCHING IT! I get so damned tired of almost everyone in here bitching and moaning because the product isn't exactly blazing trails right now. But hey, it's still pretty damned entertaining (even the bad stuff is comical sometimes), and if you don't like it so much, then don't watch. Pure and simple.
-
I doubt there will be any Hell in the Cell matches on here . . . you just KNOW that HIAC will get it's own DVD one of these days - there's almost been enough matches for it to have a 2 DVD set on its own, though some (UT vs. Bossman) were kinda shitty. I kinda hate that those first 15 listed are "highlights" - I can deal with them maybe being clipped a little, but if they're just set to music, alternate commentary, and hacked down to 5 minutes apiece or something, that'll royally suck. But, with 11 full matches as "extras" and 6 not yet announced, we can only hope for some good stuff - personally I'm kinda hoping, as strange as some may sound, for some of the following matches: Hogan/Bossman from SNME April '89 Midnight Rockers vs. Somers/Rose (AWA Tag Title) Steiners vs. Money Inc. (WWF Tag Title) Luger/Flair (WCW Title - Capital Combat '90) . . . someone earlier said something about Hogan/Bundy from WMII - Vince has a hard-on for that match for some reason, it seems to make its way in a prominent fashion onto a lot of vids, especially back in the Coliseum Video days.

For the most part, scaffold matches are pretty much a joke - except for a couple (namely the Road Warrior/Midnight Express match at Starrcade '86 and the ME/R'n'R at Starrcade '87), they are usually really bad. A scaffold match involves, well, a scaffold, that is erected over the ring, usually about twenty or thirty feet in the air. The object of the match is the knock your opponent(s) from the scaffold. That I know of, no one actually ever fell off the side of a scaffold, they more or less would make their way under the structure, hang for a minute, and then fall to the ring below. Jim Cornette fucked up his knee REALLY badly by falling from the scaffold at Starrcade '86. What usually makes the match really bad is that, most of the time, the wrestlers involved are scared shitless to be up on that thing, so they spend most of their time trying to keep their balance which makes for a really shitty match. The worst one ever was at Great American Bash '91, pitting PN News and Bobby Eaton vs. Terry Taylor and Steve Austin. To make matters worse, the match was a "capture the flag" match, so the wrestlers didn't even have to fall off the scaffold. It's pretty widely regarded as the worst opening match in PPV history.

I guess a show filled with 90% of the roster dogging their matches in Flair protest doesnt disserve worst PPV ever? What kind of twisted, diabolical world are we living in?! Yeah, I guess you're right . . . GAB '91 is STILL the worst PPV ever . . . Do you think, if Flair had still been on the show, that it would've sucked as bad? Consider that the rest of the card probably would've still been the same, save for Barry Windham possibly wrestling somewhere on the card. Also, Fall Brawl '96 War Games was excellent as well. If you haven't seen the WG match from that show, rent or buy the nWo DVD that Vince put out last year. It's got the match in it's entirety as an extra.
-
Methinks Fall Brawl '97 was a pretty good show. The War Games was one of the better in the "recent era" of bloodless WG matches, and the Eddy/Jericho match was great. Fall Brawl '98 may in fact be the worst PPV ever (unless you count the Heroes of Wrestling garbage). I used to believe that honor fell on Great American Bash '91, but after watching GAB '91 a few nights ago, I've started to find it a wee-bit tolerable, if only for the Gibson/Morton and Luger/Windham matches. FB '98 had one "decent" match between Raven and Saturn, which I've always found to be overrated myself, and the WG on that show was a complete and utter joke. For a surprisingly solid PPV, check out Fall Brawl 2000 - there were a couple of dogs on that show, but for the most part, it was WCW's best PPV of 2000, with Slamboree that year following a close second.
-
I was personally at Fall Brawl '94 in Roanoke, VA (6 rows back from the ring furthest from the entrance), and while the card may have looked bad, it was actually an OK show to see, both live and on tape afterward. It's not gonna get an award for best PPV ever or anything, but aside from a couple of bad matches, it was a pretty decent show. Fall Brawl '95 was basically a two-match-show - Flair/Anderson and Pillman/Badd - these two matches absolutely rocked. The rest of the card was not very good, but two 4-plus star matches on one show makes it a decent PPV in my book.

Hey guys, I'm going to venture into the world of wrestling tape/DVD reviews, and I wanted to get a little insight from you all as to what you would like to see reviewed. I collect commercial masters (no dubs or bootlegs) of WCW/NWA, WWF/E, ECW, and other releases, and have a pretty vast collection (over 350 total), so pretty much anything you request, I should be able to review at some point. I'm going to start with an easy video so that I can "get into the flow" so to speak - WCW Fan Favorites, released in 2000 I believe. My format will be somewhat unlike other tape reviewers. I won't spend all my time going over the match move-for-move, as sometimes those types of reviews tend to drag a bit. My reviews will feature a little background info for the match, a "move of the match" feature which will highlight the best move/highlight/sequence of that particular match, and each match (as well as the entire event/video itself) will be rated on a 100 point scale (with a little commentary thrown in from time to time) So, what do you think? Any ideas for upcoming reviews? Post them here and we'll kinda get a tally going. Thanks guys!
-
CHANGE OF PLANS!! The first review, after much prodding from a nearby friend, will be for . . . . Smoky Mountain Wrestling's Fire on the Mountain '92 Will have it up ASAP.
-
So far as WWF Coliseum Videos go, from 90-92, I've got pretty much anything from that period, both the PPV's and non-event tapes, so anything is probably fair game. Should have up the WCW Fan Favorites review soon, stay tuned!

Just was thinking about the possibilities for WM XX, and IF the WWE plays their cards right, it could be fantastic . . . or, in recent-typical WWE fashion, it could be a flop. Here's what I see happening . . . WWE Title vs. World Heavyweight Title Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg (or HHH) (this is IF and only IF Vince decides to finally scrap the brand extension, which I'm not sure is such a good idea, but I've often wondered if he's had WM in mind for months as the culmination to this "split") If there's no "intermingling" with the brands, I'd say we'll get: WWE Title Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero World Heavyweight Title - Loser Must Retire HHH vs. HBK Where's Goldberg in that mix? Simple - Austin's probably got one more match in him . . . Austin vs. Goldberg seems logical as a "big money match" for what's supposed to be the biggest PPV ever. What do you guys think?

Went to an ECW house show in Concord, NC - Feb. '99 I believe was the date - had a friend that was going to go, but had to have his appendix removed about a week before the show, so he couldn't go. It was really fun and an awesome experience, but it IS kinda fun to have someone to talk to at the show, and to "relive" the experience with on down the road as well.
