    Unforgiven buyrate

I agree. I don't understand why it's so hard for the company to come up with a 7 or 8 match card in a logical fashion and promote the show with simple storylines, even something as simple as "you've got a belt I want, and I'm coming after it". Every card doesn't have to be a blockbuster, or doesn't have to have complex, emotional storylines, but they can all be at least minimally successful with just a little effort in actually promoting the show. They promoted the RAW Homecoming like it was f'n WrestleMania, but can't promote the SmackDown PPV enough to even make me want to catch it at a local sports bar for damn near free. It's pretty sad. Sometimes I really miss the days of the "squash shows" like Saturday Night and Superstars being a promotion machine for a PPV that meant something . . .

    WWE's Direction:

If Smackdown were to get cancelled, if nothing else, USA would pick it up for Thursday nights or something. I'm pretty damned sure it gets better ratings than a re-run of "Tommy Boy" or some of the other shit they show. Not saying "Tommy Boy" is shit, it's a damn good movie . . ah, hell, you know what I mean The main problem with WWE, so far as being able easily obtain a home/time slot on the network of its choosing, is its inability to draw huge ad revenue due to the nature of the programming. Some other programming gets significantly lower ratings, but draw more prominent advertisers because the content of the programming is considered less risque/violent or more "mainstream" or socially acceptable than wrestling. I'm quite sure that, even though the ratings for UPN's Thurs. night lineup are fairly low compared to Smackdown at this point, the ad revenue they're getting for the night is probably far greater . . . and it's all about the Benjamins, baby . . . .

    Virgil vs Ted DiBiase

If I remember correctly, the actual split/face turn for Virgil occured at Royal Rumble '91 after he was pinned in a tag match with Dusty and Dustin Rhodes. The turn had been teased for a couple of months prior with Virgil becoming increasingly tired and irritated with DiBiase's treatment of him, and it was inferred that DiBiase was taking care of Virgil's mother and/or family in return for Virgil's services. I "think" that's right, anyway.

    Forever Hardcore- The Documentary

I just got back from Wal-Mart, on my lunch hour, and I bought it myself. I'm assuming that all of the matches are probably XPW matches of some form or fashion, and while most were shitty, I'm hoping the New Jack/Vic Grimes match is the Freefall match that's so "infamous"

    Older Coliseum Videos

That's too bad, man. I had a great copy of the show until I got rid of most of my tapes last year. It was at least VG... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I downloaded Rumble '88 from PWTorrents, and created a DVD menu for it. It's actually not bad. I can't say it's the best VQ I've ever seen, but for almost 20 year old footage that's hard to come by, it looks pretty damned good.

Has Lex Luger always been this bad?

Remind me to never watch that at work again. I almost spit Diet Mountain Dew all over my laptop, that was one of THE funniest things I've seen in ages. I've got a DVD from Highspots called "Wrestling Night of the Legends 2", it was a show done last year in Spartanburg, SC - one of the matches was Luger vs. Tracy Smothers, and it was one of the most pitiful things I've ever seen. Luger looks like he almost can't stand up straight in it, and the match is absolutely wretched. I didn't know if I should laugh at it, or feel really sorry for him. Of course, he's pretty much done it to himself . . .
  7. Exactly, that's what they do on the Warrior DVD; they leave the promos and everything intact and mute the 'F.' They also blur the letters 'WWF' whenever they appear on screen. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...even with the Block logo now? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The "logo" is OK, but any use of the initials WWF in any font on-screen other than the old logo has to be eliminated. When showing the WWF title match between Backlund and the Iron Sheik on the "Greatest Stars of the 80's" set, the "WWF" part of the on-screen graphic announcing the main event is blurred.
  8. I agree, he was pretty funny. It was really cool to see Hogan say "yeah, I fucked up, it was a shitty match" instead of blaming it completely on the Warrior. And earlier in the DVD, when discussing Warrior's "holdup" of Vince for more money on the day of SummerSlam '91, he openly admits that "we've all done it in some form or fashion, but the day of a PPV isn't the right time." He could've lied and said he'd never do that to Vince, or Turner, or anyone, but he was truthful and told it like it was. Hogan is pretty humble in this thing, taking as much blame and giving Warrior as much credit as he can. He COULD'VE been an ass, but for the most part decided against it, especially odd considering the guy he's discussing IS a complete ass.
  9. If that's true, than this may be the most accurate DVD they've ever produced. I like how he writes about 40 pages essentially saying how much he's moved on and doesn't care. If you write 40 pages, you care. A lot. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That statement pretty much sums it all up. He obviously greatly cares about how this portrays him, or he wouldn't write a damned college-thesis on how he basically could care less. Ya know, I'd think a whole lot more of the guy if he would just come out and say "this pisses me off, and I'm hurt that WWE would do this to me" He's lucky Vince let him back in WWE after he left. Twice. Vince was apparently a mark for the character above and beyond the crap that Warrior pulled, or he wouldn't have gotten THREE chances in the company. He apparently thinks he could just come and go as he pleases with virtually no consequences. Well, Warrior, here's your consequence, you're about to get a DVD set ripping you a new asshole, it sounds like. To those that would rather see his "good" than his "bad", I completely see where you're coming from. Here's hoping that at least a small section of the DVD, or part of the commentary, does focus on his achievements and matches that made his career. I'd love to hear Vince tell us all why pushing Warrior was something he believed in. But considering that there's literally only three or four Warrior matches worth half a crap, it won't have to be a very long section. The bulk of the set will probably make the viewer piss him/herself with uncontrollable laughter, from the sound of it. Is there any chance that Warrior could sue WWE to stop the DVD from even being distributed, feeling that it will be slanderous and/or detrimental to what little bit of a "career" that the Warrior has left? He'd have to see it first, I guess, so I wonder if Vince sends a copy to the individual featured before he releases it, or if he just says "screw it, if they don't like it, they can kiss off". It should be interesting, for sure. And - I hope to hell his WCW crap is on there, that should be comic gold in and of itself.

    WWE's PPV Schedule for 2005

Yep, it was in Atlanta, GA last year, so I got to go. Pretty good show, I was there live - came off better in person than on DVD, though, when I watched it after buying the DVD, it pretty much stank. I'm betting Armageddon will be in the Carolinas or something of the sort. I could see it being in Greensboro, Charlotte, or maybe even the new arena in Columbia, SC - it seats 18,000, so it's definitely big enough. I've been hoping for another show to come there for quite a while, so I've got an excuse to go see the new building - I believe one of the first events ever held there was a RAW a couple of years ago. On second though, Charlotte may not get it. I've got Charlotte pegged to get SummerSlam next year. They've got a brand new arena opening just in time for NBA season, and from the looks of it on the Bobcats website, it looks pretty awesome. Who knows, maybe they'll finally get a WrestleMania in Charlotte with this new arena. WrestleMania 23 in Charlotte would kick all sorts of ass, and pay homage to the Mid-Atlantic/Starrcade fans that made the original "Granddaddy of 'Em All" what it was.

    WWE's PPV Schedule for 2005

there is no PPV in OCtober, there's two in November. Taboo Tuesday and Survivor Series. Not really important since you're going to SummerSlam anyway, but yeah. and if that Calendar is correct, that means that Raw gets Unforgiven adn Smackdown gets Taboo Tuesday, which means That there would be 10 Raws inbetween Unforgiven and Survivor Series. That's a long time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Smackdown has No Mercy in Mid-October. Taboo Tuesday is a Raw show again this year. WWE posted a full list of 2005 PPV's on the website earlier in the year, plus included a list in one of the DVD releases, possibly WrestleMania 21. The site for No Mercy hasn't been decided yet, but the WWE is in the Texas area in early-to-mid October, I believe, so I'm thinking possibly Houston, or Phoenix, AZ, or something similar . . .

    WWE's PPV Schedule for 2005

Hey, that's what I get for going from memory. Thanks for the clarifications/corrections. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No prob - and I completely agree with your assessment. WCW should have spread these events around, it definitely alienated fans who knew that, each year, their favorite event had no chance in hell of coming close to them. I attended practically all of the Winston-Salem Fall Brawls, being a mark for the War Games, but I'm sure the event could've been just as successful in another market for a year or two.

    WWE's PPV Schedule for 2005

Well, I assume they want to keep having major cities host their Big 4 PPVs, and Detroit hadn't had a PPV since Vengeance 2002. WCW made the mistake of not rotating their PPVs to the point where by 1997 SuperBrawl, and all their August-December PPVs were held in the same place each year, which tended to limit interest among fans who lived far from those host cities. And if you're wondering where these PPVs were repeatedly held: SuperBrawl: Cow Palace, San Francisco, CA (1996-2000) Great American Bash: Baltimore/1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore, MD (1998-2000) Road Wild: Sturgis Rally and Races, Sturgis, SD (1996-1999) Fall Brawl: Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum, Winston-Salem, NC (1995-1999) Halloween Havoc: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV (1996-2000) World War 3: The Palace at Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI (1997, 1998) Starrcade: MCI Center, Washington, DC (1997-2000) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK, gonna be a bit picky here LOL . . . Fall Brawl 1995 was actually held at the Asheville Civic Center in Asheville, NC - it should actually say 1996-1999. And, Superbrawl 6 (1996) was at the Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg, FL, plus Superbrawl 9 (1999) was at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, CA (true, just over the bridge from San Fran). Sorry, I'm anal and have WAY TOO MUCH trivial wrestling knowledge in my brain.

    Ultimate Warrior 2-Disc DVD

Hey guys and gals, Was just surfing over at DeepDiscountDVD.com, and they've got an Ultimate Warrior 2-Disc DVD set listed as a pre-order. I know this was rumored a while back, but now it appears to be a reality. Here's the link for it: Ultimate Warrior 2-Disc Set Any thoughts, comments? Just thought it was interesting and wanted to pass it along in case no one had heard about it.

    OAO Raw Thread for 7/11/2005

Hogan/HBK will most likely be like Hogan/Rock - the match itself will probably not be that great, but it'll be passable and be enough of a "memorable moment" that we'll turn into marks for 15 minutes or so. Hogan wins, fades out for just a little while, until Austin challenges him for WrestleMania 22.

    OAO Raw Thread for 7/11/2005

If it's played correctly - Edge/Hardy is THE money match for SummerSlam. Not Hogan/HBK, Cena/Jericho, or Batista's match. That was the greatest shit they've done on RAW in ages. No damn entrance music, no JR and King yelling incoherent shit, just a f'n beatdown and the most realistic arrest/handcuffing I've ever seen on a show that does it WAY too often. That ruled. WWE better not fuck this up.

    Projected SummerSlam card

This was a topic I started back in early March . . . Above is a link. In that link, I stated that I felt it was entirely possible that Hussan would face Batista for the World title at SummerSlam. And, in that thread, I was berated by a few people for this having no bearing, and that I couldn't provide a storyline to go along with it. I was told that Batista has to have this strong patriotic persona for Hussan to play off of, and that Hussan would never be able to be in a main event because he blew an irish whip. Now, with minimal storyline (provided only by the draft and his same "I'm being held down" character that's been in place since the start), there's at least a logical chance that Batista/Hussan could happen at SS. Now, the somewhat-likely scenario is that Hussan will get his ass handed to him by UT at the Bash, and we'll get a "one-time-only" face vs. face Batista/UT match at SS. But, it's also entirely possible that we'll get the Batista/Hussan match that I predicted back before Batista even won the title. I know I'll get flamed and told I'm an idiot for even bringing it up, but hell, I just had to look back at that post with a little smile.

    Finally! Kurt Angle DVD announced...

These DVD's have been listed for a while now, as early as 2001 I started seeing the "History of the Championship" DVD available on 12/30 from Amazon.com. Think about it folks, the "industry standard" for DVD releases is Tuesday, and 12/30 is on a Friday this year. That should tell you enough.
  19. res37618

So who does Cena face at Summerslam?

I'm feeling Cena vs. Edge for the WWE title as Cena's match at SummerSlam, which will probably be semi-disappointing. If I had a choice, we'd see Cena/Angle, or Cena/HBK in a "face vs. face/mutual respect" kinda match, but that'll never happen.

    Raw trade finals

What the hell? That's convoluted booking at its worst . . . best bet is that Batista gets drafted to Smackdown with the title, and it becomes a "six-pack challenge" for the title. End of story.

    WWE Legends

I would buy it - I've got the Legacy set as well, and the video quality on it is somewhere between "shitty" and "really f'n shitty". They're produced on the crappiest quality tapes you could find, and I wouldn't care if the DVD's are just the PPV's themselves with no extras, they would at least be in perfect VQ and much more enjoyable to watch.

    Early Smackdown Spoilers

Yep, they're gonna have to do something like that - I don't think even the WWE is that stupid to have three champions floating around, there will be a unification match at some point, and I think you're right - Batista wins the Hell in the Cell, gets drafted to Smackdown with the World title, and it gets unified with the Smackdown title at the Great American Bash. It gives the Bash main event a little something extra to want to see, even if it is a month-old title being unified. Of course, who really knows what the hell they're going to do, this thing could be hanging around for a long time . . . .
  23. res37618

    WWE Legends

I'm not sure how many posts that we've covered this in, there's probably one devoted strictly to this subject - but here goes: Ventura's commentary is OK for WWE to use so long as it's a) not WCW footage, and b) has previously been released on a Coliseum or WWF(E) Home Video. This is per terms of the settlement they reached a few years back. Therefore, a WrestleMania DVD set should not be an issue.

    Ultimate Warrior 2-Disc DVD

I've not seen or heard anything on WWE.com, and I've checked Amazon.com to see if they've got a pre-order for it, and I don't see it. But it does seem odd that deepdiscountdvd.com would go through the hassle of taking pre-orders for something that they'll have to turn around and cancel because it's not true. Therefore, I'm not sure about any of it. It was rumored near the beginning of the year that a Warrior set was going to happen, and now there's a pre-order for it, so it seems likely.

    Essential WWE DVD's

I think the Hulk Still Rules DVD is definitely worth getting, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a more comprehensive set in the future - it was rumored a while back that WWE was going to convert all of the Hulkamania vids from the 80's and early 90's over to DVD for a six-disc set, but I've seen nothing about it since. The highlight of the Hogan set for me was his Puerto Rico match with John Studd, in what had to have been the world's smallest wrestling ring. It was teeny, and low to the ground . . . and in the middle of the match, it starts raining a freakin' downpour. You can tell they both have no clue what to do at that point, and the match ends outside the ring just a couple of minutes later. Good stuff.
