The Great American Bash switch to July kinda fits, that's the month that they used to always have it in . . . what I wouldn't give to see them do a "War Games" match there for the main event. It'll NEVER happen, but I guess I can dream, right? According to Meltzer, Triple H has been begging for Wargames for a while but Vince won't budge. Well, for once, I'm rooting for HHH. He needs to make Vince budge - a WWE Wargames match, with the right participants, could be a classic. Of course, the undercard would probably suck donkey testicles since all of the upper card talent would probably be involved in the match - talk about a card full of crappy filler matches! What the hell, it would be worth it . . I'd sit through a bad La Resistance tag title defense and a horrible women's match to get to the main event . . . what am I talking about, that sounds like EVERY Raw PPV!

So far as crowd heat building to a peak, you've gotta throw Mankind's first title win vs. Rock in Worcester, MA. When Austin came out to help Mankind, the place went absolutely apeshit, I don't know if I've ever seen anything like it before. It may not be the best choice for sustained heat, but so far as building to an emotional, dramatic finish, it was just crazy.

Yep, it's pretty much commonplace for them to "test" a match finish at a house show in order to see what kind of pop it will earn. I'd be anxious to see/hear what kind of reaction it got when the fans though they'd seen HHH lose. One of two match finishes will happen at the Rumble: 1) Randy will "win" the title, and a Dusty Finish will change the belt back to HHH or 2) HHH wins after Flair interference. Same old, same old - pedigree for the pin. Batista wins the Rumble, and the plan is set in motion for HHH/Batista at WM21.

That's where I've ordered mine from already. That's pretty much the best price around unless Wal-Mart has them. If anyone HAS found them and already gotten them, can you report on them? I'm assuming they're unaltered from the Coliseum versions, with the exception of alternate commentary on the WM1 Andre match.

Good point, hadn't thought about it that way. But it's still OK to dream, right?

I don't think they'll change it, but you just never know. The belt I'd like to see them change is the WWE title on Smackdown. I've never liked that belt. I'd mark out like a mad person if they'd bring back the Winged Eagle belt. That was THE best belt that WWE has ever used . . . that, and the old 1985-1998 Intercontinental Belt.

I found this excerpt in a wrestling column that our local newspaper runs in print and on the internet. I have no clue as to whether it's true, but it'll be kinda cool if it is: "In the big book for upcoming video/DVD releases from Trans World Entertainment, which is the parent corporation for video and music retailers such as FYE and Coconuts Music & Movies, there is another Hulk Hogan DVD set in the works. The set is titled “HULKAMANIA” and it’s a six-disc set that will cost $44.95 and be released this spring. The Wrestling Observer reports that the six-disc DVD set could be re-releases of the Coliseum Video Hulkamania tapes released during the 1980's and 1990s." Again, take this for what it's worth. Hopefully it's true, even though it's Hogan, I'm always up for some good nostalgia. Any thoughts, or has anyone heard anything about this?

Very smart business move by WWE. The overseas shows are almost always sellouts, and with a schedule this extensive, it almost insures an extremely profitable quarter for WWE. I do wonder how many TV tapings there will be? I also wonder if one or more of the shows may be taped for a DVD release of some sort . . . .

Big props for the video - that looks like a fucking awesome match, will definitely have to hunt down a copy or order it when TNA finally puts it out on DVD.

My mind was on other things, so I botched it. Like the discussion on fandom in Sports that I'm participating in. My bad, but still, it pretty much kills whatever they make on the DVD. You're right there. Profit margins on DVD's and movies are usually about 25-35%, so it's at least taking a big chunk out of it, that's for sure.

Think its like ten grand per item sold, which usually amounts to at least like 50 sold in a week, so that's like fifty thousand. Then multiply that by at least 100 stores breaking it, which they then check to see, and that's like five hundreed thousand dollars they are losing. Sure pocket change for a company that size, but it negates any profits that item makes. Oh, and before you report them, buy the DVD (game, book, etc), THEN report them. This way you get the best of both worlds. Ratting the idiots out and getting your item early. Your math is absolutely dreadful: Ten grand per item sold X 50 in a week = $500,000 $500,000 X 100 stores breaking the rule = $50,000,000 You didn't happen to take your math courses through one of those mail-order high school diploma plans, did ya?

You can order it from Amazon.com, deepdiscountdvd.com (they're the cheapest, I think), and so forth. Haven't seen it recently in a store anywhere, though it seems I saw it when it first came out at an FYE down in Atlanta. Just do a search of "Best of the Von Erichs" from VCI Entertainment, I think. You can also order it directly from VCI by going to vcientertainment.com. I got it when it came out, and it's great. Some matches don't have the original commentary, but Kevin Von Erich and David Manning fill in with some good alternate commentary. I think some of the tapes owned by Kevin are missing some commentary, so it may be an issue on future releases as well. They say at the end that there are future releases being planned, so I hope it's a good seller! If this one didn't sell for shit, then we may not get any more.

I don't normally give too many props to HHH, but on this one occasion . . . Good job, Hunter. You got out while the gettin' was good. Just look, you've got possible part-ownership in the biggest wrestling organization EVER to look forward to, instead of THAT. Well done, my brother, well done. She's the perfect combat to morning wood.

why have they released stuff on DVD then with Jesse's commentary still intact, when the matches never were released on video previously? Which matches? Give me an example . . . i said one earlier in this topic if you read.... Also on Hulk Still Rules they showed Andre/Hulk vs Studd/Bundy from SNME. That was never shown on video Yes it was, I believe clips from that match were shown on one of the Hulkamania vids, or one of the early Coliseum vids, so it's OK. Hulkamania 3 was pretty much entirely focused on the Hulk vs. Andre feud, so I would bet that some part of that match was on there as a prelude to their breakup.

Jesse's been heard in DVD extras for Hulk Still Rules and other discs. So, I don't know what the details of Jesse/Vince are, but that might blow holes in your nightmare. OK - here's how it goes: WWF - They can use Jesse's commentary on anything that has already been released on video once before. So, a proposed WM Box Set shouldn't be affected at all, since it's already been done. WCW - Nothing can be used - if it's WCW material, he has to be edited out. Period. Hope that clears it up for everyone.
-
Heh, my thoughts exactly . . . . it may be that WWE planned this set before the Marvel agreement expired, and that Vince will just say "screw it, we'll call him Hollywood Hogan from now on" - meaning, more editing and fewer comprehensive releases because of the trouble in getting them ready and "lawsuit-free". And, meaning that the six-disc set has already been scrapped. You know what sucks about the whole thing? We've finally got one person in control of pretty much all the "major-league" wrestling footage, and I think he actually knows what to do with it (all the previous DVD releases at least indicate that he'll give us what we want eventually) - but, it seems like with every passing month, there's something else that has to be edited out of the footage, it's pretty soon gonna be too annoying to watch, with splotchy audio and blurred spots. It'll be like watching scrambled porn.

no they havent, but they have begun re-releasing the old coliseum video versions to DVd. They've done the first 6 WMs so far, adn several other PPVs like KOTR and Rumble etc Uh, I think that's what he meant
-
I love it . . . this topic comes up about once every six months or so . . . . I think it may be feasible for Vince to start releasing the WrestleManias one at a time, in the same fashion he's been re-releasing the older Coliseum Videos as inexpensive DVD's. That is possible, but I don't know if a full-fledged box set is something we'll see anytime soon.

Yeah, I had wondered about that place when I read it in the title records. Do you know why they did the switch there, of all places? I have no clue - I was thinking the exact same thing myself. At the time, I was only 12 years old, so I thought it was really cool that the US belt changed hands in Bluefield. But in retrospect, I just think "What the hell?" Maybe it was just a knee-jerk decision - Luger did turn heel just a couple of weeks later at the Clash of the Champions in Fort Bragg, and they wanted the US belt on him for his feud with Steamboat, and they also wanted Hayes ready for the tag belts with the Freebirds - so, they thought "might as well just do it here as anywhere". Also gives the impression that anything can happen when you go to a house show, no one ever expects a title to change hands there anyway. That's all I can think of. Or, maybe the weed-smoking was a little hot and heavy that day.

Yeah, I didn't think that GAB '04 was as bad as everyone said - the JBL/Eddie match was entertaining, as was Rey/Chavo and the US title 4-way. I could've done without some of the filler matches (it DID seem like a thrown-together card, as do most of the PPV's recently), but overall, I was generally entertained for three hours. I thought that Armageddon was much worse, IMO - I was there live, and it didn't seem that bad in the arena, but after watching it when I got home, it was brutal. The main event was OK, but otherwise, it was a complete throw-away show.

Actually, a quite infamous house show title change happened in 1989 - Lex Luger won the NWA US title back from Michael Hayes in Bluefield, West Virginia at a tiny building called the Brushfork Armory. I saw a WCW house show there in '92 - it's pretty much just a high school gymnasium-type building in a small town of about 15,000 people. Mid-Atlantic used to make runs through there and Beckley, WV back in the early-mid '80's as well. I'm not even sure if it's still standing, it wasn't in the best of shape the last time I was there, and that was almost 13 years ago.

Well thats pretty damn funny... Actually, Orndorff said that the potential huge star is "Brock Lesingar" - listen to the ByteThis broadcast - when he's asked the question, he says "Brock Lesingar" - I almost pissed myself laughing. Josh and Marc Lloyd were like "Who??" It was just priceless.

Yeah, it could be like watching an edited movie on network TV, where all of the foul language is replaced with the same actor (or a similar voice) saying "crap" instead of "shit" or something like that. That would be too much fun to watch. Methinks I'd waste an entire weekend counting "Hollywood" voiceovers on a six-disc set. Or not.
