  1. And if my 54, 55 year old mom

This doesn't really anger me, and it may not be the case with you, Leo, but it astounds me how so many people don't know their parents' birthdays or even their ages. I mean... how do you not know?

But as far as things that anger me, I have a rant about DirecTV coming when I have more time.

My mom has always refused to reveal her age. She's so insecure about it (apparently when she turned 23 someone jokingly said "you're getting old" and she took it EXTREMELY SERIOUSLY) that she only admits her year of birth on a need-to-know basis, and I guess her kids don't need to know. Of course, I do know, thanks to some detective work done when I was 9, but I don't think my brother does, and he's several years older than me. It's all so strange.

  2. OK really now no messin' no bullshit. Who are you? I can't take the TSM Man of Mystery gimmick from anyone let alone a hard boarder like yourself. So TWO QUESTIONS

    1) How did you ever find this board? Back in '04 I don't think you could even see the board if you weren't logged in and that would mean anyone joining probably would have been specifically looking for a wrestling board, right? BUT I know you're far too smart to have ever been a fan of wrestling which makes you, yes, smarter than EVERYONE who has ever posted here except maybe pbone cuz I don't think he ever liked it either BUT THE POINT IS this board was super heavy on wrestling in 2004 and while there were some even back then like Inc who had given up the ghost of fake fighting fandom I don't know why anyone would join here back then just to talk about indie rock but then again maybe you didn't find it to your liking, at least not at first, because...

    2) OK, so then you took two years off? Make a handful of posts, disappear for two years and come back full of personality, opinions and disdain for most of the TSM populace? Well that's just unheard of around here and I doubt it's been done at many other boards if ever! Did you just lose interest in the board, only to check it out on a whim a couple of years later and decide that hey, maybe this place isn't so bad. Or could it be that you realized your posting wasn't up to snuff and take a many-month sabbatical watching and learning, honing your posting skills by acquiring the noticeable traits of many other established posters at this board and finally re-emerging with that almost-too-good-for-this-board attitude that makes all the younglings of this board aspire to be like you? Or could it just be that you're subliminal_animal No definitely not he's gone and not coming back I need to quit fooling myself. But I'm sure you were watching just a little because you knew Czech once was sylvan_grenier and who remembers that? Few, BtB, few.

So REAL TALK yes REAL TALK Byron no evasion, no jokes about "Smart Darks" and no 50 pages from your Advanced European Lit class. We here at TSM want truth and nothingbutthetruthsohelpyegods. We won't think any less of you if it's just some mundane tale of Googling "Surfer Rosa" and stumbling upon the board but goddammit you gotta tell us because if not we're never going to believe you're a real person and not a figment of our collective imagination. HEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYY

  3. Factor 5, makers of the Rogue Squadron series, Lair, and my personal favorite, Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures, has gone belly-up:

From Matt-IGN on the message boards over at IGN:

Was hoping the rumors weren't true. Contacted Julian over at F5 to shed some light, but he didn't get back to me. Got an e-mail from an inside source tonight:

    "Hi Matt,

How have you been? Haven't seen you guys since E3. I hope that you're doing well!

[Edit] wanted me to contact you with some late breaking news. We just learned from inside sources that developer Factor 5 has officially closed their doors as of today. That's some pretty big news considering that those guys have been around for quite a while. It's definitely a real shame! I hope that this information is helpful to you. Take care, and please say hi to Bozon for me."

Beh. Not sure what this does to Kid Icarus, either, but it sure doesn't sound good. I'll keep you posted. I'm still holding out some kind of hope there may yet be a light at the end of the tunnel.

    Matt

Free Radical, makers of TimeSplitters and Haze, also gone:

A COMPUTER games company which employs 185 people has gone in to administration.

Staff at Free Radical Design, which is based in Bostocks Lane, Sandiacre, turned up to work this morning to find the locks had been changed.

A note stuck on the door told them to attend a meeting at the nearby Novotel at midday.

Cameron Gunn, of Resolve Partners, the administrators that have been called in to deal with the firm, said: "The company was placed in to administration yesterday afternoon.

"We will be spending the next three or four days assessing the financial position of the company but it's business as usual, although we have asked that almost all of the employees apart from a skeleton crew remain at home."

"All employees have been paid up until the end of December and we hope to make another announcement before Christmas or very soon thereafter, but we must stress at this stage that it's business as usual."

It is unclear exactly how many people will lose their jobs.

The company are understood to have been working on a Star Wars game for LucasArts .

Other games released by the company include Haze, Second Sight and the Timesplitters series.

I think this really shows how risky next-gen development can be. These weren't exactly small-time studios. They were pretty big deals at one time who were each killed by just one big failure. If they were making Kid Icarus, and Matt from IGN seems pretty sure they were, then maybe Nintendo should buy them out. I know that's antithetical to their business model, but there's no reason to let all the work that's presumable been done on the game go to waste. As for Free Radical, they were kind of a one-trick pony. They made a name on their Rare ties and TimeSplitters 2 was good, but that was six years ago and they haven't done much of note since.
