It isn't racism, but it is discrimination against a certain culture, which has become lewd, monotonous, and downright stupid. It's almost as if people do not have time on their hands, and all they can think of is another new way to verbally bash France and its people. What's funny is that people keep on reiterating France's submission to the Nazi German army, yet if it was not for France's assistance in the battle of Yorktown, the British most likely would've won, after chasing the revolutionists for so long. However, I do not want to start another debate about it.

As far as I can tell, the WWE board really does not have that huge of a problem. There's no possible way the mods can ban all of the (insert poster derogatory nickname here) from the folder and for it to have only "intelligent posters". There is always someone who will say something that will offend another poster or be misconstrued as flaming by a small group of posters with the same view. As with any arguments, people will agree and disagree (vehemently sometimes). I mean, how many times can someone argue over whether or not Shawn Michaels is a great seller, psychologist, etc. etc. etc. It all comes down to how stubbornly one sticks to his opinion, which is why I merely offer mine and try not to change another's. I think some of the board's more experienced posters (guys who have been around for a long time) should create more threads and discuss, that way the new members can see what makes a good poster.

First of all, who considers Shawn Michaels a cruiserweight?

How do you rank the smark fab 3?
Austin3164life replied to OldSchoolWrestling's topic in General Wrestling
Benoit, Eddy, Angle. Benoit's work eclipses Angle by far, and is a notch above Eddy's as well. However, Eddy's personality puts him just a hair below Benoit. -
Only reason Captain Marvel is dangerous in terms of hand-to-hand with Superman is because his powers are based on magic, and Supes is vulnerable to it. Superman > Thor because Superman is smarter, and can lift Mjolnir (sp?). Batman v. Captain America would always be a draw. Both men would fight dirty (especially Batman), but they would not go for the kill. In the end, Steve's character would restrain him (more noble) and Bruce's (somewhat sadistic, opportunistic) would give him a narrow advantage.

No one as over as Van Dam belongs on Heat. I don't know if he's as over as people claim he is. Sure, he does get his pops, but he does not work the crowd that well anymore. Perhaps it's his watered down WWE-style of wrestling (which is a bit better than the sloppy, spotty style he used to do), which fans can't get accustomed to. To be quite honest, I wouldn't really miss RVD that much if he did not resign. He would be more successfull in TNA, but I doubt he'll pass up guaranteed cash from the WWE for a reduced salary.

So What Did You Think Of The Contract Singing?
Austin3164life replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in The WWE Folder
The resounding boos were a breath of fresh air. I would have thought the people would cheer, but I liked it when most of them (some were cheering) started booing. We'll have to see how Michaels plays off of his reaction (if he plays the tweener or not). -
Now that they're moving in the direction they are going in (Benoit vs. HHH with Shawn as the Wild-card tweener), a logical main event at Backlash would be Benoit vs. Shawn (w/possible appearance by Bret). The match would be good and would have a lot of heat.

If it turns out to be Triple H vs. Benoit ONLY (assuming next week's match between Shawn and Chris is for the contender's spot) then this match has definite potential of being a classic for the marks and the smarks. For the marks, a ring veteran is finally pursuing his dream against the bastard heel that is living his dream. For the smarks, if Benoit wins, it'll mean that there is some hope for a new era not ruled by the kliq. However, the results of Wrestlemania will also have ramifications as well. -
They're trying to move towards a different era, but all this is is a shell of the attitude era. Some right moves were made by pushing Guerrero, Lesnar, and Benoit, however when Triple H and Shawn rule Raw, there isn't a lot of room for development.

About Foley's weight, I started laughing when Orton called him a "fatass" backstage. To answer the question posed by the topic, yes. Foley's promo skills could easily turn him into the wily and crazy Cactus Jack any day.

The WWE missed their shot with Rob Van Dam a long time ago, and since then they've watered down his sloppy (yet "pop"able) offense, and now he's a shell of what he was in 2001 (in terms of his heat). I don't hate RVD, but I really can't see him being a WWE World Title holder.

So What Did You Think Of The Contract Singing?
Austin3164life replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in The WWE Folder
Exactly. Shawn Michael's role in this match is the only thing that irks me from the segment (and the entire feud in general). Up until Shawn Michael's music hit, I was anticipating everything that was going on between Triple H and Benoit. Personally, I saw Benoit's cold stare as an act of defiance to Triple H's lewd statements about how he is "reality" and "dreams don't exist". One of the best Triple H promos I've seen in a long time. It feels weird saying that. -
Austin breaks Pillman's ankle, in what can only be described as "Pillmanizing" nowadays. DiBiase doing the Million Dollar Dream on the outside to Jake Roberts at WM VI. Austin yelling "yer pathetic!!" to a kneeling Jake Roberts, then slaps him across the face at KOTR 96. The Rock giving Farooq a picture of himself (Dec 97?)

Why Michaels is in WM XX ME...
Austin3164life replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
I wish Shawn Michaels would hurry up and go away already. He's done well considering what everyone thought he was physically two years ago, but ever since going over Jericho at WM XIX, he's been leaving a bad taste. -
I, too, found the HIAC I to be a cartoon segment, like Ray stated previously. Yeah, sure, it's complete with mark-out moments, but let's get serious here. A lot of sites called it the MOTY for 1997. That is absolutely prepostorous. To say that match eclipsed Austin/Hart, Bulldog/Owen (Raw, Euro Title), or HBK/Austin vs. Bulldog/Owen is stupid. All the match was was Shawn flippy-flopping all over the place while a blown up Undertaker was walking like he had a stick up his ass. Not to mention the fact that he no-sold Shawn's finisher, which had been built up as a "Giant killer" (put Sid and Diesel down, why not 'Taker?). Then you have the completely anti-climactic finish that the WWE practices so much these days. I'm not trying to shit on Shawn Michaels, because he did have a good career in the WWE, but calling him one of the greatest EVER is just wrong. Bret Hart and others have even said the same thing. I believe Bret once said that while Shawn was a great worker, Steve Austin is by far a greater wrestler (one of his SLAM! columns). Look at Shawn Michaels' best matches, and then look at the best matches of guys like Hart, Benoit, Austin, etc. and then tell me Shawn Michaels is better.

Kayfabe wise, it was a great segement, however we all know this reeks of the clique power~! and poor Chris is getting sucked into that vacuum. It started out as a successful segment in which Triple H put heat on the match by basically telling Benoit "Let's see if you can grasp this moment". Instead of Shawn Michaels coming out, Benoit should've just reiterated "You don't have to tell me about reality, Hunter. It bites, just like a rabid wolverine does" and then he could've signed. Then after we could've had the confrontation between the three. That segment last night showed me how desperate the clique duo is to retain their heat by stealing Chris Benoit's heat. -

Shawn/Rock >>>> Shawn/Flair -
I appreciate Shawn Michaels and I usually enjoy watching his matches, but I don't think he's as great as most make him out to be. He's a solid wrestler with a good sense of psychology, but I don't know about top 5. In his prime (96), I think both Bret Hart and Austinw were better than him.
-
Any reason why they're so huge there? Did they used to do tours there against teams from Japan?
-
The Rock>Shawn Michaels in terms of working the crowd.
-
This show isn't really shaping up to be anything grand or spectacular.
-
2001 easily. It had the good four-way, the surprising Women's Title match, Austin/HHH (while slightly overrated is still very good), and the excellent Rock/Angle match.
-
To be fair to both viewpoints, Angle is a treasure to the company, and these past two years, no one not named Rock, Austin, Hogan, or Foley has been a true "draw" for the company (which has been on a weird downward spiral). I still think that the WWE has never booked Angle completely right and to his strengths. One question though: Choken, where did it say that Angle booked his own feud with Cena in October?
-
Which match is going to be the surprise match of the night? I'm thinking Eddy/Angle as potential MOTN (possibly year?). If Goldturd actually starts to sell Brock's offense, and let's Brock control the pace, that could be interesting to watch (especially Brock's face reactions compared to Goldberg's).
