We remember Baylor, but it's also been pointed out how several of the former Cubs managers won more games in a season than Baker ever has with the team and yet, they've all been fired eventually. It annoys us that Baker seems to be untouchable, regardless of how the team plays. That said, Neifi's batting second today.

As long as one of the regular infielders is on the DL, they'll never have to worry about it!
  4. I second the praise for the Noir set. I only wish the second one were on sale, too.

Nomar's rejuvination can probably be largely attributed to playing first base. I'm not too certain he'd be injury-free were he playing short.

Walker came dangerously close to washing away their scoring chance there, but hey, game of inches and all. I don't wish it had kept going, but it would've been interesting to see who the Cards would've sent out there if there had been a 15th. They were out of pitchers, so a position player probably would've had to take the mound. It seems like no matter how bad the Cubs are, they seem to be able to pluck more wins than they should against the Cards.

When I left Comerica, the Cubs were up 2-1 in the 7th, but I didn't expect them to hold it. I came home and see they're in the 13th after having made a 9th-inning comeback. But I also see that for some reason, both Jones and Murton are out of the game and thus, we have an outfield of Bynum, Pierre, and Mabry. Huh?! P.S. the Youkillis homer was a pure markout moment.

I'll be hitting up the Tigers/Sawx game tonight. With Schilling pitching and the Tigers playing the way they have, it should be an enjoyable affair.

I wanted the Yanks to win, but I give credit to the Tigers for coming back and snatching this. It looked like it was gonna be a laugher early, but the lack of Yanks' offense in the second half and persistence of the Tigers pays off. This is a perfect example of why Farns' contract is hilarious.

Hey, there's the Farns us Cubs fans remember.

Did Jim Edmonds hitting the DL get mentioned here yet?

I see Turnbow blew another save, which led to a Pirates sweep of the Brew Crew. More importantly (to me) is the win puts the Cubs only one game ahead of the Bucs. The Cubs, who sport an 8-18 road record, spend their next 10 on the road.

I pray they get their head outta their ass and start Zumaya...he competed for a spot in the rotation in spring training and hes a starter in a relief role...the Tigers seem to have forgotten that...a starter is more important than a set up man anyday Why would they want to remove one of the key piece of their pen so far? The starting pitching has been excellent thus far, but the real dynamic of their staff is the insanely reliable bullpen. They put him into a starting role and they lose a ton of stability in the portion of the game where they've excelled. From what I've seen, Zumaya, Rodney and Jones are the only ones who are regularly tested from that pen. I'm not all that familiar with the rest of it, but I'd venture to say some of the great ERAs are products of infrequent appearances.

I'm pretty sure the Reds gave Eric Milton his ridiculous contract after only viewing what he's done against the Cubs. I can understand true aces shutting down the offense, but Eric Milton looks like Cy Young everytime he faces the Cubs. Thankfully, I watched the Pistons instead of any of the Cubs game.

If Dusty's going to insist on putting Perez in there, why does it need to be the number two spot? I'm curious, since he offers no speed, which has traditionally been Baker's justification of putting poor-hitting position players in key spots of the lineup.

But, of course, if this means a platoon of Walker/Womack at second, I'm against it. Womack's been decent since being called up, but once Lee returns, we'd better not see that situation, especially when one considers both are lefties and thus, a platoon serves little purpose.

Hmm, I don't hate the trade, but hopefully Jim Hendry doesn't think this is going to solve the offensive problems. Hasn't Nevin caused problems over not being a regular in recent years, though?

His call on the botched rundown play that ended the game against the Phillies last year is still my favorite of all of the Santo calls I've heard personally. The one Al mentions now and then is probably the funniest sounding one,t hough.

Poor pitching probably helped the Cubs score seven runs for the second straight game, but considering how the team has hit in May, it's still surprising.

Sounds like the 30 gig model is the one best suited for your needs, unless you plan on adding videos, in which case, I'd spring for the 60.

Maybe they DID know what they were doing. And Yanks with some fine baserunning to take them out of the ninth.

Amazing what a change of scenery and/or coaching staff can do for your game.

I'm sick of Clemens. If you want to keep pitching, fine, but don't put everyone through this "will he or won't he retire" crap EVERY year.

I still say the A's take it. The Rangers' pitching is crap, the Angels look like they're going to have an off year and the Mariners shouldn't even be a factor at this point.
