The OAO RAW thread - 11/14/05

It may seem inappropriate, but I couldn't help but notice a fan's incorrect use of a comma on his sign, which read, "We, will miss you Eddie."

I'm pretty sure I'll break something if it's either one of those, let alone BOTH. At this point, Murton should be the LF, no question about it. With the market as weak as it is, there's really no reason not to give him a shot. Pie, I've only heard about. I get the feeling if he sticks with the Cubs, he'll be another Patterson, but a star elsewhere. I'd have to imagine they're trading pitching, though.

If this goes through, so much for the pipedreams of Furcal or Giles.

11/13 Family Guy and American Dad

I'm not sure if that was the exact quote from Stewie on Brian's novel, but his delivery was what made the line a LOL moment. The Rocky part had me dying, mostly because my friend was over studying for an exam we've got tomorrow and that's his favorite part of his favorite Rocky movie. As soon as I saw the first frame of the scene, I knew what they were doing. "Hey, the exam's in three hours." "Crap, all we've done is work out!" The wheel chair lift for Joe was the hilarious touchy subject moment of the week. The stuff with the professor was up there, but the bang, bang, bang, slooooooooow set-up for the A-Team getting in the van was perfect timing.
  6. Indeed. After being so floored by the WG set, I checked out the other titles in the series and was surprised to see that most had insider commentary. Those are affordable sans the discount, but with it, no real reason not to give it a shot. They didn't, but just added that and Rescue Rangers yesterday.

    Eddy Guerrero passes away

And of course, leave it to low-lifes on eBay to try and cash in on the death. Already there are several new auctions with mention of his passing IN the auction title. My favorite? "WWE EDDIE GUERRERO SIGNED PROMO 765 RARE! REST IN PIECE" What a god damn idiot.

    Eddy Guerrero passes away

Absolutely shocking. It's a shame his career that last year and a half was really a down period. To think that less than two years ago, he was on top of the world. And to put things into perspective of just how young he was, my mom, who was a fan during the '80s and early '90s, had no idea who he was. I asked if she'd heard of him and her response? "Did he graduate with you?" The good die young.
  9. Doesn't look like they're available from the site. Speaking of wrestling DVDs, this would be a great time to pick up the five-volume Wrestling Gold set. Used to retail for $50 or $60 and it's been down to $20 for about a year. With the discount, it'll be around $16, a fantastic deal simply for the smark commentary provided for every match by Cornette and Meltz. Here's the link.

Just Watched the Bret Hart DVD

Agreed. Shawn getting murdered for half an hour has people wearing the rose-tinted glasses when it comes to this match. It's a fun exhibition, but their match the previous month wasn't so lopsided.
  11. All DVDs and accessories (i.e. shelving) are. Video games and CDs are excluded. I'm with areacode. I'll definitely place an order, but my backlog has swollen up in recent months and I can trace it back to the last DDD sale. What'll probably happen is I order some sets that are great buys for sales like this. The Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection, first three volumes of the Wrestlemania set, a couple of TV sets and Criterions, and that'll be "it." Surely I'll still rack up quite a nice bill, but nothing like the last two sales. I know people get crazy with this stuff, but it's the kind of sale that's best suited for the big ticket items. I see people loading up on titles that are regularly under 10 bucks. Nice to have some savings, but those titles add up and for what? Sixty cents saved per title? Better to pay that extra sixth cents when you've got the money, instead of piling up a hefty credit card bill.
  12. No doubt I'd be, too. I just know that from reading the thread over at DVDTalk that a lot of people racking up bills in that neighborhood can't afford it. Some people noted they're still paying off bills from previous sales, which seems to negate the entire purpose of the sale.
  13. I wouldn't feel bad. There are people dropping a couple grand on this sale.

    Facebook/MySpace/Webshots...

Yeah, but how many different times of you and your friends drinking do you need to capture? Do it if you want, but all those pics start looking like carbon copies of one another. On a semi-related note, I just saw some photos of some girls I went to high school with at one of their birthday parties and DAMN, drinking has not done them well.

Wow, how'd you manage Boyz... for that amount? I must've missed a sale or something.

    Recent purchases

After a layoff from getting too many DVDs, I've gotten roughly 20 in the last week and a half, thanks mostly to GameStop's brilliant Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion they were running. Over the course of five days, I was able to get 13 DVDs from various GameStops. Highlights of the list include: - Daily Show: Indecision 2004 - Aladdin (2-Disc with slipcase) - The Lion King - Million Dollar Baby (3-Disc DE) - Life Aquatic CC - Wrestlemania XV The pair of Disney titles were priced at $12.99, but the Lion King was a free title, while the Daily Show was marked at $19.99. MDB was a real steal since it was priced at $9.99 (gotta love GS one price per title, regardless of what edition it is method), Life Aquatic was free, but priced at $9.99, and WM was $5.99. While in there today I found the SE of Monster for $5.99 and coupled with the original Manchurian Candidate, the pair was $10. It's funny since I've seen the original, barebones release of Monster at virtually every GS and have held off getting it, since I knew that eventually, I'd see the SE priced the same. I'll have to go back tomorrow and exchange the Manchurian Candidate, though, since I stupidly forgot that there's an SE available. Before all the GS madness, I lucked out and got Hitchcock Criterion titles The Lady Vanishes, Notorious, The 39 Steps, and Rebecca for $20 each. On top of that, the OOP Silly Symponies tin was had from the same seller for another 20 spot. Oh, and I got the Office Space SE, but man, is it lame for the wait we all went through. Phew, that's a lot of spending.

Sorry, but I'm still in disbelief that the Cubs would go and re-sign two guys that many could've sworn were on their way out. Both are expendable, yet wanted to start. And god damn, let's not just re-sign them, let's give them multi-year deals! I figured Hendry had learned his lesson from this season, but obviously not. Why not just re-sign Burnitz and whip up some new "Believe" bracelets while we're at it.

Man seriously, what the hell? Even if the Cubs nab Furcal, that means Walker's gone. What a dumbass organization.

Good to know Frigid has let his passion of challenging everything Al says subside. Fact is, the Dodgers have quite a few holes and if one can be filled inexpensively, why question it? The "he played against bad teams" argument's stupid since just about every team out there plays a lot of bad or mediocre teams with some great ones sprinkled in there. Hey quick, somebody remind me which division the Dodgers play in and who the other teams in said division are. You sort of defeat your own argument by naming those teams he beat up in, since you named every NL West team outside of the team he'll be on.

So should I just get this at BB and not even bother with FYE? That Shop Zone thing is tempting because I've wanted that shirt for YEARS. Just never wanted to pay the insane eBay prices to get it.

Personally, I think the Padres have bigger issues to address than keeping Hoffman around. Having a lights out closer is certainly a perk, but what good is a great closer when you don't have the pitching or offense to optimize him?

Why did he leave in the first place? I remember reading Moneyball earlier in the summer and being surprised to find out that DePodesta was even in the A's organization (I know, I know, HOW?). I kept waiting for the part to come where he headed off to the Dodgers, but it never happened.

Dodgers are gonna fire Paul DePodesta. Apparently it's his fault everyone got hurt last season and he never bothered to re-sign Adrian Beltre or Steve Finley, two guys who had GREAT seasons in 2005! Cubs also picked up options on Scott Williamson and Todd Walker, while declining Burnitz's option. Manny also wants out of Boston. Again.
