I'd say the classic stuff began around Season 3 and ran until around Season 9. It began to taper off during the 1998-1999 season, but a lot of the shows were solid. I think the 2000-2001 season was the only one where I thought the show was just awful. Haven't watched it close enough since 2002 to really speak for recent seasons.

All of Carlin's shows are like that, Jobber. I went to one in April and he told us from the outset that he was working on material for his next HBO special. He opened and closed with two very long and complex bits, which he had to read from a notebook just because he didn't have it all down yet. I guess that's the point of such shows, though. Gotta try out new stuff and see what floats and what doesn't. That way, only the best makes the big show.

Just announced that Peterson gets death as his parting prize. What a crock of shit. I understand that he did a terrible thing, but tell me how two wrongs makes a right here? Why let him off the hook with death instead of letting him be someone's girlfriend in prison for the rest of his life? I'm disgusted.

At least he's going in there voluntarily and doesn't seem to be as bad off as some people who need help, but don't seek it. He's always seemed like the kind who's got things under control and knows what to do if anything gets out of control. How will this affect his touring, though? My best friend got floor seats to a show he's doing some time in January.

I like the Hollandsworth signing just because he's as good as any outfielder we've got if he can stay healthy. That's a big if, though.

Yeah, but then what would he eat cereal out of? Jackass.

Watched it again tonight with my brother, some of his friends and my cousin. Have to say it was a lot funnier the second time around, but it definitely lacks a real plot and is quite random. And was I the only one who thought that half of the deleted scenes were as funny as anything else in the movie? I believe the timing reason for cutting them, but I can find plenty of things that made the cut that could've been tossed aside in favor of some of the deleted scenes. The kickball and thrift shop/convience store scenes were excellent.

My mom gave mine away when I was younger because its voice box didn't work anymore. -

My favorite Alf moments included watching the episodes uncut. Alas, this new set doesn't let me relive those moments. At least I've still got the stuffed Alf doll. -
Money and gift cards are practical, but the are proof that the giver refused to put any real thought into the gift.

Best gift was easily the portable DVD player. I probably could've gotten nothing else and would've been satisfied. My main gifts were items I already knew I was getting since I had actually gotten them myself. Some nice shirts and DVDs from the DDD sale a month back. Other than that I got some odds and ends like sweatpants, an ATHF shirt, huge thing of Sour Patch Kids (that I actually specifically requested), and Moneyball. Definitely fewer items than in years past, but that's mainly because the shirts, DVDs and DVD player were all higher end items. I've also got a Cubs franchise hoody and retro Sacramento Kings hoody coming my way whenever I stop being lazy and order them.

The OAO Jakks Classic Superstars Thread
Bruiser Chong replied to The Mandarin's topic in Video Games
I finally saw some in stores the other night and once my brother went on about how ugly they were, I was sure I'd get a couple from him for Christmas. Nope. He just thought they were ugly. -
Right on. It doesn't help that my mom refuses to get with the times and invest in a god damn snowblower, even though our driveway is immense. But it's all gravy this year. Some Mexican family comes by and does it for us now.

You people who get cash from relatives are lucky. I don't get shit. We always do a gift exchange/ party thing at my aunt's on Christmas Eve. This year was awkward since my one aunt's ex showed up since he's taking her son back to Chicago with him tomorrow. He brought one of his co-workers with him, which was odd as hell, since they're both married. I can only imagine what he thought of our whacky family. Keeping with tradition, few of the gifts were serious. I was the recipient of a pair of god-awful CDs from Big Lots (something along the lines of motivational music and dance songs for the new millennium) and some sort of canned meat. We did one of those things where we put the serious gifts on the floor and drew numbers and grabbed a gift from the pile. I wound up trading for the massaging slippers I brought for the exchange. P.S. I'm highly disappointed with them. My brother also gave me some t-shirts, including a Simpsons one that he doesn't remember buying, nor does my mom. Dummies. He also got me some TMNT game for PS2, which makes me wonder what sort of drugs he's taking these days.

Got tons of snow earlier in the week. Maybe I'm getting too old, but all I could think of was how annoying it is to go out and run errands when it's snowy out. Piss-poor driving conditions and wet shoes and pant legs. Ugh.

The episodes are done before you even can think twice about it. I guess that happens when there isn't a single clunker in the 22-count batch.

On top of what Al said, the Cards won 105 games because everything that could go right for them in 2004, did. They faced no major injuries until the end of the regular season. Their starting pitching was better in 2004 than previous years, but I thought the way they performed in the postseason was what they probably should've been playing like during the regular season.
-
Just because he wouldn't settle for anything less doesn't mean it was okay to give in to him. Womack is injury prone and I'd expect him to be much like Lofton was for you guys last season.
-
They were talking about that this past summer. Not surprised at all that the organization is looking for yet another outlet to profit from, while doing very little in the way of focusing on the actual team. And I think the Yanks' moves are a lot riskier than the ones the Sox made. Wright is not worth anything close to the contract he got; Womack is going to show you quick enough that 2004 was his last hurrah, and I'm not convinced that Carl Pavano was rightfully one of the hottest free agents this off season.
-
Man, the Sox are making moves virtually everyday. And they didn't really lose a whole lot. Are they going to be the odd-on favs to win the AL East in 2005? And sorry to keep harping, but the Cubs seem to truly be the only contending team doing nothing at all. Keeping Nomar was a big move that I think got lost in the shuffle of other MLB happenings, but I wish they'd do something to address issues that plagued them in 2004. This means the bullpen and the hitting. They still need a credible leadoff man, because Corey Patterson isn't the answer. Even Stoney predicted he'll be a three or four guy down the road. They moved Sarge to first base coaching duties, so hopefully the hitting will come together in 2005. I'm still skeptical, but then again, we are talking about the Cubs.

Classic stuff. I just finished the set as far as episodes go. I'll be skimming through the extra material over the next couple of days. I'm a big Simpsons defender, but it's tough to even think of the current incarnation as the same show when you watch episodes like the ones found in S5. They're just so well-done and dare I say, fulfilling. The ones now are just empty laughs.

My brother has been pimping this flick since he got home from school, so naturally, he got the DVD the day it dropped. I watched it with him over the course of the last two days and it's definitely an acquired taste. The humor is very dry and people who want humor that's spelled out of them, well, this ain't your movie. I liked it, but that's because I tend to like quirky little movies such as this, although I didn't think it was as great as some have said it is. His character is so over-the-top nerdy, as is the abuse he takes. At times, I found it almost depressing just because I've known people like that (although, not to such an extreme). But his good nature attitude keeps it from turning into some sad melodrama about not fitting in. Can't say I'll ever go get it for myself, but the movie was far from shit. Glad to see it's doing so well on the DVD market, though.

I think the Giants were the obvious candidates to snag Alou, since Father Alou is the manager and all. Still, picking up a guy who causes problems, is on the decline, did poorly away from a hitter's ballpark last year, to play in a PITCHER'S park is a big risk. Especially when they've already got that Bonds guy in left.
-
I'll see it eventually; it's still in select cities right now. That means an hour and a half drive to Ann Arbor if I want to see it now. I probably won't right now, but my mom and brother are going to be heading out tomorrow night to see it.

Anyone who's on the fence should go get it at BB this week, since you'll get it for over 10 bucks off. I used one of their coupons to score it for $23.99. I thought it'd take me a while to get through it, but I'm already on Disc 3. I'm listening to the commentaries of episodes I've seen a million times. Still good stuff and I hope this proves that commentaries weren't the thing holding these releases up, since they're provided for each show.
