Great. Just great. I can only imagine what idiots we're going to get in the booth now. While it's not team-related, it's shit like this that makes me think the Cubs aren't capable of following through like the Red Sox did. They focus more on petty bullshit than they do with the actual game and their shortcomings. This is all Baker's doing. This team is really trying my patience. I know it's just an announcer, but it's clear that the immature fuckers drove both announcers out of town. This really bothers me. And I think the Cubs need Beltran because not only is he going fill a gap in the outfield (I think Patterson would move to left or right), but he's going to provide the Cubs with a couple things offensively that they don't seem to utilize (i.e. patience and speed on the basepaths). Speed's overrated, but the Cubs' station-to-station attitude all season wound up doing them in more times than not. I'm just tired of Baker. He's clearly tainted this team like he did in San Fran.

There isn't any, really. I'm just saying he shouldn't speak as if he's been waiting his entire life to see this. I know he never claimed to have been a fan all his life or even more than a couple of years, but he's giving off the impression that he's been with this team through the good and the bad. As I said earlier, I've been a Cubs fan since I started watching baseball. They're what got me to love the game. I was basically hooked on them from day one for reasons I still can't explain. So I know that it doesn't always take long to "fall in love" with a team. He just picked a convienient time to do so.

Al and KingPK summed up my thoughts nicely. Hey, you're a Sox fan. That's great. But don't act like you've been along on some crazy ride with fans who've stood by the team longer than a couple of years. Hell, I've been a Cubs fan since 1994 and I feel that's been too long to wait for a World Championship. I can't imagine what it's like for someone who's been a fan of the team for decades. But yeah, enjoy the victory. Just don't act like it's the greatest thing that's ever happened to you because you haven't been through all or anywhere close to all of the heartbreaks a lot of the Sox faithful have endured over the years. You became a fan of the team when doing so became the in thing to do.

Got plenty of those, too. Mostly looking to move Jakks.

Yeah, but it became clear during the last few months of the season that he still had some pop left in that bat. That's usually all a guy needs to convince him to stay. In regards to the Nomar situation, I wouldn't mind seeing him stay, but why is everyone so gung-ho to sign this guy to a fat contract when he's been so injury-prone in recent years? He's still productive, but he's clearly beginning his trip on the downside. I'd rather see them snag Beltran and a solid closer with that Nomar money.
-
I dunno, man, they are pretty nice uniforms. ' Yeah, you had theirs and about 40 other team flags, too. Your point?
-
I'd rather see the Cubs let Nomar go and aim towards Beltran and shaping up that bullpen. They can go after cheaper options up the middle other than Nomar and Kent.
-
I suppose we'll see if Beltran's more interested in winning or if he's gonna pull a Pudge and sign a ludicrous contract with a shitty team.
-
As long as he's with the Yankees (regardless of what we like to say), he'll have a great shot at winning. Enough about A-Rod, what about Nomar? This poor SOB's exit from the city is going to be viewed as the turning point for the first World Champion Red Sox team in 86 years. Rightfully so, since the team was a lot more carefree once he was gone, but the little changes they made along with the Nomar trade should be noted, too.

No, the real question will be how you got kids. Rich, I'd imagine.
-
There was no curse, you complete tool of the media.
-
Just three more outs until the hardcore Sox fans and fairweather fans who've stood by their team for two long, agonizing weeks.
-
Bitter much? Alou blames you! I'm not bitter. I'm just sick of hearing about some curse that never existed. It's just a creation of the media. Same goes with the Cubs. You could only say there was a curse if they contended EVERY year and then fell apart come postseason. But since both teams weren't built to win for decades, no go.
-
Six outs away from having a bunch of idiots IM me about the "curse" being broken. *sigh*

I don't see how this is any different then wearing Band shirts. My favorite band is Metallica but If i wear a Slayer shirt, does that mean I really don't like Metallica? No, I'm just saying that if you really love a team, it's not possible to like another team in the same sport as much. The word favorite used to be set aside to represent one thing. Now it's like you can have eight favorite teams and no one questions it. There's a different between rooting for a team and having one be your favorite. The former is feasible, but the second doesn't seem possible if you actually have a true favorite.
-
I don't see how anyone could have more than one true favorite team in the same sport. If you're a true fan of a team, it's not possible to like another team as much. You can like other teams or even like them a lot, but I always roll my eyes when I see people listing three or four teams that are their "favorites." I mean, you guys do know what favorite means, right?

I think I'm gonna go watch some NH...damn. The Cardinals are running the bases like the Cubs in this series. Jesus. That's absolutely ridiculous to get them at second and third with no outs and come up empty.
-
Yep, Sox in the Series = great for hat sales, but it just exposes how freaking flimsy people are with some things. Pulling for a team is one thing, but suddenly declaring a team you never gave two shits about, as your own or whatever, just because they're in the Series, is moronic.
-
That blow to the junk had my friends and I in stiches.
-
As an aside, it's humorous to note the amount of bandwagon fans the Red Sox have attained by making the World Series.
-
What sort of figures are you looking for? I'm looking to clear out a lot of my collection, since I'm trying to empty the place so I can move in the spring. I've got mainly the older Marvel Super Hero figures, X-Men and the like.
-
That it would be. Don't post while sleepy, kids.

Personally, while St. Louis was by no means perfect and they wound up on the short end of the stick, I thought they looked like the better team. For a while, it was looking like it was going to be a blowout, but the Cards chipped away at it, tying it up on two occassions. To me, there were too many things the Sox did that they got away with this time, but are going to get burnt on if they don't fix them up stat.
-
Yeah, I think getting rid of a thread full of gems like "HOLY SHIT" and "NO FUCKING WAY" is just wrong. I've had that RAW thread bookmarked for two years and always looked back at it when I needed a dose of something in-depth and interesting. Guess I'll just have to settle for that Yankees/Red Sox 2004 NLCS thread.

That's why I prefer paying first. The pump just stops when it hits the total you paid for. Thus, no need to worry about going over.
