When the Yankees' pen can't get the game to Gordon and Rivera, you realize how horrible they are. George needs to stop spending all the bucks for the big bats and aging starting pitching, and get some arms down there.

Why walk Ortiz and then bring in Nitkowski? Why not just bring in Nitkowski to face Ortiz, who is awful at hitting lefties?

You always hear about the amazing defensive plays Jeter makes, but you never hear about all the errors he commits on routine plays.

What an ugly and truly hideous game. Give the Mets credit, they didn't give up. Prior was the one bright spot, but as has been the case much this season, it's gone to waste. The possibility of losing two of three to the Mets is quite scary this late in the season.

Yeah, but I think once Calvin Murray replaces you, it's pretty tough to win the game for the team.

If by that you mean grounding into an inning-ending double play, then right on.

Sosa striking out with the bags full really hurts now.

No, overreacting would be flipping out after every missed scoring opportunity. Pointing out the captain of a team striking out on average of two times a game, while barely batting above .250, isn't overreacting. It's showing concern. Considering how much he's being paid and all of the bitching and moaning he's done over the years about not being protected in the lineup, he can't do anything but expect negative responses to his significant decrease.

Hopefully any kind of Sosa will be gone after next season. He's got four strikeouts on the day, the latest coming with the bases loaded. And all have been swinging. This is supposed to be our franchise player. Hell with that. I look at Bonds, Pujols, Helton, Jeter and the like; those are franchise players. Not this schmuck.

Sosa has three more strikeouts. It's clear he's not going to recover from the downward spiral he's been in and it's sad to think the guy who's the appointed captain is one of the individuals doing the most damage to the team. It's hard to swallow the fact that we're stuck with him for another season.

Generous with those matches, aren't we? I've got the show and I wouldn't say the Austin/Rock match wasn't anything we hadn't seen between the two already and the Edge and Christian match was pretty dull until the last five minutes.

Wow, how? I've got that and I don't have any of the games until 7. I never get any of the games that can possibly be shown on Fox on Saturday.

That game had a great finish. After easily retiring the first two batters, Gagne issued a walk on four straight bad ones, which brought up Bonds. Obviously he intentionally walked him, much to the dismay of the crowd. He then walked JT Snow, who was pinch-hitting, before getting the final out on a line drive flyball. I'd say if the Cubs can sweep the Mets and take at least two out of three from the Reds and Braves, they've got the WC locked up, since the Giants may find the Dodgers to be their undoing.

So, the Braves officially clinched the NL East tonight and Johan Santana won his 20th game, but hey, Sox/Yanks > everything else, right?

Cubs totally lucked out. After hitting like utter shit for nine innings, they finally get the go-ahead run in the 10th, thanks to luck. Grudz got a lead-off walk, Patterson's swinging bunt (after two failed attempts) moved him over and then Lee got jammed on a ball that wound up falling into center to score Grudz.

I'm going crazy over here. After finally tying the game (via the home run, of course), the Cubs load the bases with one out thanks in part to horrible Mets defense and the next two hitters proceed to strike out. Absolutely inexcusable. They can hit flyballs till the cows come home in every other situation. Why not when they actually need to? Looked like they were prepping to bring in the Farns, too. Kill me now.

Corey Patterson and Derrek Lee picked a hell of a time to fall into awful slumps. Patterson is back to averaging at least two strikeouts a game and Derrek Lee has (no lie) about two hits this week and well over 10 strikeouts. Not exactly the kind of production you should have from your one and two hitters.

Some WWF / WWE DVDs FS

I recently bought a lot of WWF DVDs from eBay and after taking out the ones I need, have several that I already own. So I figured I'd offer them up here just in case anyone had any interest in them. If there's no interest by Sunday evening, to eBay they go. Here's what I got: - Ric Flair Collection (3 Discs): $23 - Mick Foley: Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops: $9 - Mick Foley: Hits & Misses: $16 - Hardy Boyz: $9 - Undertaker - This is My Yard: $10 - Stone Cold Steve Austin - What? (Sealed): $9 - Beyond the Mat (Original Unrated Director's Cut): $9 All of them play nicely and are in great condition. Prices do include shipping, which also includes delivery confirmation. Shoot me a PM if you've got any interest; all offers considered, yada, yada, yada. Trades considered, too. I'm trustworthy and all that, too, in case you needed to know. I've done several trades on various boards and have sold on eBay for two years. The end.

No, probably not. Even though they're OOP, DVDs like the King of the Ring from 2000 or 2001 wouldn't garner much cash. That's how most of them are, in fact. I'd say Wrestlemania 2000 and X-7 are the only two commanding any real cash. 'Cause Canada sucks. Have you looked on eBay? I see them there for well under $10 on a regular basis.

I love how some are trying to write off the Cards' amazing season. I mean, I'm technically supposed to hate them and while I certainly haven't been thrilled to watch them this season, I can give them their just dues. You don't win 100 games by mid September just because you play some bad teams. Every team does, even the bad ones. The Cards had some easy teams to play (i.e. the Royals), but they've also had tougher competition in their own division. The Cubs, while having injuries all season, were going neck and neck with the Cards until the last couple series of the season; the Astros laid absolute whoopings on the Cards before their bats went anemic a couple months into the season; the Pirates, while not a great team by any stretch of the imagination, have been a team that couldn't buy a win at times and seemingly couldn't be defeated other times (the Cards happened to run into them a couple of times when the latter was true). I don't want to downplay the success of the Yankees or Sox, but they've had the honor of playing teams like Baltimore, Tampa Bay and Toronto in the midst of battling each other. Aside from Tampa's hot streak in the middle of the summer, all three teams have been downright horrid. So as much as it may pain me to say, what it all boils down to is I'd rather see the Cards succeed than the Yanks or Sox, simply because despite having an incredible record, it's all about Boston and New York because of their habit to break out the childish bullshit every series they have with each other.

Yeah, the Cubs have somehow managed to post horrible numbers but a good record against left-handed pitching, despite having a lineup almost entirely comprised of right-handers. They'd be better off forfieting the game if they ever ran across Johan.

Um, first off, a DVD doesn't necessarily have to be old to go out of print. Secondly, all WWF DVDs have gone out of print for the obvious reasons. Therefore, quite a few of them have become rare and command big bucks (mainly the Wrestlemania DVDs).

Give it up, Al. No matter how good other baseball is, people will almost always come back to this series, mainly because of all the childish shit we're sure to see half of the time. Don't get me wrong, they've provided some classics over the years, but then again, that's true for ALL rivalries. I don't know how anyone can have an interest in watching these two go at it after last weekend's series.
